Rating: Summary: An absolutely original sports novel Review: "On the Devil's Court" is a wonderfully fast, easy, and exciting read. Joe Faust's life has gone into the dumps, and the only thing that matters anymore is basketball. Unfortunately, his basketball game is rotten these days too. So, Joe sells his soul to the devil for a perfect season of basketball. Or does he? Readers are propelled through the book by one realistic conflict after another, with plenty of surprises to keep the reader guessing about the state of Joe's soul. I've taught this book to high school freshmen for a number of years now, and the boys always love it. This is a great book for younger readers, or slower readers, because it is written in clean, simple sentences that few readers will have trouble with. All in all, a first-rate first novel!

Rating: Summary: Beelzebub, Basketball, and Bad Endings Review: A Review by BrianJoe an eighteen year old on his last year of high school moves to Seattle. Joe has lots of problems with his dad because Joes not the brainy straight a student that his dad wants him to be. The one thing though that Joe cares about, and is really good at is basketball. Joe wants to make varsity, and he does but that's not good enough for him, so he sells his soul to the devil for one full season of power. Throughout the book Joe doesn't know if his soul is really gone, but he'd do anything to take back those words I like how the book doesn't tell you right away if Joe's soul belongs to the devil. It makes the book interesting and keeps you reading to find out. What I don't like is that the book doesn't feel complete. The book never says if Joe's soul belongs to the devil or not, and throughout the whole book Joe talks about repenting and it never tells if he repents either. Another reason I didn't like this book is it was confusing when it talked about his basketball games. The book would talk about his plays and people he passed to and for me it's hard to follow. I feel the book didn't solve Joes problem with his dad either after the season ends the book does to. I would recommend this book to people that know a lot about basketball. If you don't parts of this book will be hard to follow. I would also recommend this book to people that like cliffhangers because I feel the book doesn't really end with all problems solved.
Rating: Summary: On the Devil's Court Review: All of Joe's life, his dad has wanted him to become a great scientist like himself. Joe just dreamed about playing basketball at the collegiate level. For his senior year his parents had moved to Seattle from Boston. At Boston, Joe played for a talent lacking private school. At Eastside Academy in Seattle he would be playing with a very talented group of guys that had played together their whole life. The headcoach was going to have Joe, a senior, work with J.V. instead of varsity because he had done bad in his gym class that the headcoach taught. Joe said no thanks. So, Joe found a little run-down old community gym to work on his basic dribbling and passing fundamentals. After going there a couple days after school, Joe decided to start working on his shot. He started from the top of the key with 10 perfect swishes that came right back to him. He noticed the shadow from the hoop on the wall. It wasn't like the basket at all, the shadow had a crack in it and the hoop it self was about twice as big as a normal one. Mist had arose around Joe so hick that it was getting hard to see. That's when he said the words he will never be able to forget or even believe. What is it that he says? Will there still be time for Joe to make the team? If so will he even get to play?

Rating: Summary: On The Devils Court Review: MY MOST FAVORITE BOOK WAS On The Dervils Court. It was about a boy trying to fit in and make the asketball team.Well one day on his way home he found this old broken down court in a building. One day while he was playing a deep black mist vcome into the room and he starts making all his three point shots. And jokenly he says give me a fuul season of power and my soul is yours. The thing i loved the most about this book was the way the author desribed everything I felt as if I was watching a movie. In other words this book was very informative . Although it was long it kept you wondering what is going to happen next.If you like basketball read this book.
Rating: Summary: On the Devil's Court Review: On the Devil's Court by Carl Deuker is and excellent book about a kid named Joe who loves basketball. He tells the Devil that he will give him his soul if he is the star of his team and the team goes undefeated. After he sells his soul to the devil, he wishes he hadn't because his team somehow keeps winning anyway possible. Close to the end of the story Joe's dad has two heart attacks, and Joe gets a concussion. At the end of the story Joe's team goes 24-0, and he keeps his soul. On the Devil's Court is an awesome book that makes you never want to put it down until you are finished.
Rating: Summary: A totally awesome book awaits you- it's a must read!!! Review: On the Devil's court is a GREAT book!!! Joe Faust, a senior in high school, sees his basketball skills deteriorating, and desperately wants to improve so he can make the varsity team. One night, while in an old deserted gym, Joe makes a terrifying bargain, agreeing to sell his soul to the Devil in exchange for one straight season of power. When the end of the year rolls around, Joe's team is undefeated, and they make the championships. Joe's deal with the Devil is done. On the Devil's Court takes place in Seattle where Mr. Deuker lives, and the story is very true to real life. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any one who likes basketball and suspense, and would like to add, if anyone is interested, that Mr. Deuker is a very nice and funny person, and is my WONDERFUL teacher!!!
