Summary: Panthers, Dragons, and the Witch Child
Review: The Night World is all around us - a secret society of creatures of darkness. There are only two rules to the Night World - 1) Don't let a human find out about the Night World, 2) Never fall in love with one of them.

RAKSHA KELLER - A tough-as-nails panther shapeshifter whose name means 'demon'. Abandoned by her mother and considered a freak of nature in her foster homes because of her abilities, she is finally adopted by Circle Daybreak where she grows to become the leader of an elite swat team. Her latest mission is to protect the latest identified Wild Power - a clueless, ditzy blonde whom everyone seems to love and has everything Keller never did. And when for the first time she begins to have feelings for someone, she discovers that their love is not only impossible, but could destroy the world.

ILIANA DOMINICK - A descendant of the twin siblings of the Crone of all the Witches; the third discovered Wild Power, and the legendary Witch Child. Needless to say, the big-hearted and immensely popular teenager does not take this too well. Finding out in one day that she is a 'lost witch', has a magical blue fire within her that is required to save the world, and that as the Witch Child she is obligated to marry the heir to the First House of Shapeshifters to form an unbreakable alliance between the two races, she is understandably a little reluctant to furfill her duties.

GALEN DRACHE - the sheltered and naieve heir to the Drache Family - the First House of Shapeshifters, who is required to marry the Witch Child, mets Keller when he mistakenly interrupts her mission in an attempt to save her life. Desparate to do some good in his life, he joins her team, only to find himself falling in love with her. But the alliance of the witches and shapeshifters lies with him - without it the divided races are weakened.

AZHDEHA - the awakened dragon, buried underground in medieval times, who's causing havoc for Circle Daybreak. As an incredibly powerful shapeshifter, he can take any shape he choses, and the Circle has the near-impossible task of figuring out who he is masquerading as. Keller almost manages to kill him in his weakened state, but having twice as many horns as is usual, he is more powerful than any of them can comprehend.

WINFRITH 'WINNIE' ARLIN - the red-haired, sensitive witch member of Keller's team was expecting a bit more from the Witch Child than what she got. She appoints herself as Iliana's mentor anyway, but it will take all her patience to teach the lost witch spells, not to mention tapping into the incredible power of the blue fire in her blood.

NISSA JOHNSON - the final member of Keller's team, a beautiful vampire that is not only an excellent driver, but a formidable fighter.

JAIME ASTON-HUGHES - Iliana's best friend. Not only is she deaf, but has been targetted for a hit-and-run car accident, organised by a group of shapeshifters.

BRETT ASTON-HUGHES - Jaime's obnoxious brother, who Iliana has a crush on, and who is hosting the year's biggest party in Aston-Hughes estate. Going to it would directly jepardise Iliana's safety, but she is determined to go.

ANNA AND ALEX DOMINICK - Iliana's mother and baby brother, who have no idea of their family member's true identity. But as 'lost witches' themselves, they are not totally immune to the forces at work around them.

EDGITH HARMAN - the Crone of all the Witches, and the head of Circle Daybreak. She is an essential member of the group, who controls and organises the fight against evil. Without her they would be lost. And then disaster strikes...

Witchlight: Good Points
-the identity of the dragon came as a real surprise
-Keller, Winnie and Nissa make an interesting and effective team
-the plot is very suspence filled with lots of twists
-it never slows down or drags, something is always going on
-an interesting love triangle
-L.J. Smith is not afraid to kill off an important character

Witchlight: Bad Points
-the prophesy concerning the Witch Child not fully developed
-the fate of the world rests in the hands of seventeen year olds
-the dragon is defeated rather easily for an all-powerful being
-a contrived happy ending that contradicts established plot lines
-Dark Ninjas???!!!

(with thanks to Ravenna for the making of this review)

Summary: Witchlight
Review: This book was good, but then again, I havent read that many of the "Night World" books because they are to hard to find. I really liked the whole shapeshifter thing because I dont really know to much about that subject. But Im kinda of gettin tired of the whole soulmate thing, but it seems thats what most of the books in this series are about.

Anyways, Its about this shapeshifter, (Keller) who has to find the new "Wild Power"(Iliana), who has marry the kings of the shapeshifters son (Galen). But the supposed "Wild Power" seems like a ditz. But Keller falls for the Galen, and it seems like Galen has fallen for Keller. Whats gonna happen?¿? Read the book to find out.

Summary: One of my favourite ones
Review: This is the ninth book and continues to build up suspense about what will happen in the tenth book. Raksha Keller a shapeshifter whose animal form is a panther is a member of Circle Daybreak who is charged with the safety of the third Wild Power Iliana Harman. One of my favourite kick butt heroines (I prefer it when they can look after themselves), Keller and her elite gang of fighters (Winnie the witch and Nissa the vampire) follow Iliana into a busy mall. There, the girl who is reported to be the Witch child and a Wild Power is accosted by a group of evil Night World people who want to wipe out at least one Wild Power to forestall the prophecy regarding the Apocalypse.

When she attacks, she is injured and at this point, prince of the shapeshifters, Galen, appears. Keller and her gang manage to save Iliana although Keller soon begins to wonder if this rather empty-headed blonde bimbo is really all a Wild Power. As for Iliana herself, she is unwilling to step into the role and refuses to join Circle Daybreak.

Although Keller finds herself attracted to Galen (not surprising considering they're soulmates), she tries not to get involved with him because he must wed the Witch child to secure an alliance between the witches (who have rebelled against the Night World Council) and the shapeshifters.

Add to this already stressful situation a renegade dragon with the power to change into any animal and the death of an important member of the rebellion committee and everybody's nerves are on edge. In between protecting Iliana and trying to work out who the dragon is impersonating, Keller barely has time to sort out her own confused feelings for Galen.

This book is tied for third with Daughters of Darkness, following The Chosen at No. 1 and Huntress 2nd. The cast of characters are practically perfect with the exception of Iliana. I'm sorry, but how can anyone sympathise with her in the first half of the book? She's a whining, obnoxious, self-centred little bimbo - worse than her distant cousin Gillian in Dark Angel. When she's told that the world is about to end and she is one of four who can protect it, she breaks down and whines about losing her mother's credit card. How shallow is that?! She progresses considerably as the book continues and at the very end, some things she does make me admire her courage a lot but sometimes, I felt just like Keller felt, wanting to strangle her at times.

Then there is Keller. A no-nonsense, kick-butt, I can look after myself girl with attitude. She's not exactly pleased to get saddled with a nitwit like Iliana but duty calls and she'll protect her with her life if needs be. Keller's unselfish, courageous, especially when she decides that although she and Galen are soulmates, she'll give him up to Iliana to secure the alliance. Amazingly stubborn and clever too, she doesn't give up easily either.

Then there's Galen. A bit wishy-washy and didn't have much back bone. Sort of drifted around and did what people told him to. Romantic, but didn't go for what he wanted until the end. During a fight, he does a very sweet thing but I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it. I didn't get a very good idea of what his likes/dislikes were or what he was like as a person.

Aradia, the Maiden makes another appearance and at the end comes up with a very clever idea (at least, I think it's her idea although it could have been Iliana's). If you remember from a previous book, she's the one who's blind and comes up with the end of the world prophecies.

I would have liked to hear more about Winnie and Nissa but maybe they'll appear in a later book.

A very good book but I would just like to ask a few questions. Why won't the human girls and boys agree to become Night World people? It would solve a lot of problems with one soulmate dying but I'm guessing that this will be resolved in the tenth book. Also, does anyone have any idea who the last Wild Power might be? So far there's been a witch, a vampire and a human/vampire. I'm hoping it will be a shapeshifter so there's a bit of everything but who knows? Somebody told me that in the tenth book, the Wild Power has two soulmates. Does anybody know anything about this? Also, what about Ash and his soulmate Mary Lynette? We haven't heard what happened between them so I hope the tenth books mentions what happens. Does Iliana get a soulmate? At the end, will everybody find their soulmates? I guess I'll just have to wait in great anticipation for the tenth book to come out.

Summary: Great book - where's the rest of the series?
Review: In response to the Nov. 4 review, I have been bugging the publisher about every 6 months about Strange Fate and just did so again. As of now, Simon and Shuster have no information on the publication of Strange Fate, so unless there is another publisher that has picked it up, we're still waiting. Too bad. All the other Night World series end of their own accord, and so does Witchlight, but it leaves you really thirsting for the final book and the resolution to the prophesy.

LJ Smith is an excellent author that can draw you into her stories and characters and into that other, mythical world, Night World.

Summary: Iliana...That blond ditz...
Review: Keller is sent on an assignment to protect the new Wild Power...A witch named Iliana. Now, Iliana is a blond ditz who is supposed to promise herself to the prince of Shapeshifters in order to get the shapshifters to join with Circle Daybreak. If they do, then good will probably have a better chance at prevailing over evil. IF that happens. One thing that could destroy that hope...Keller and Galen (the shapeshifter prince) are soulmates. Will they just forget that important fact? Or will Keller's soulmate be promised to another and leave her with a broken heart?
This book was suspensful, thrilling, romantic, witty...you name it, this books got it. Terrific book Lisa!!

Summary: Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll
Review: This book does not contain most of these but I had to get your attention somehow! I first started reading the Night Worldd series two years ago and stumbled upon these books by accident in the library,(an accident I am very glad for aswell). As I read each book my interest in them became greater and greater and I had to buy them as I was constantly reading them over and over again. Each book is different and has a different story. My favourites ones have to be Witchlight, Huntress, The Chosen, Daughters of Darkness and Secret Vampire, but honestly they are all very good. I noticed that each character in these books were caring but they were were each strong mentally and when it really came down to it knew what they had to do was important for themselves and for everyone else. What ever back ground you came from rich or poor you could relate to at least one of these characters in the book. The Night World series is a set of books based on love in the dark side of life trying to get in to the light but it also has a moral to each story and its up to the individual that interprets it. You easily get dragged in to the book and when finished you are wondering "what if it is true and it really is there in the world." I was looking for the tenth book for a long time and it was from Amazon that i heard L.J. Smith was sick and stopped writing. One book review even said that she she might have been taken by Night People for revealin to much about them. I hope she gets better soon and starts writing the tenth book again because she really is a talented person. If only there was someway of telling her publishers or herself. She has managed to write a series of books where the books just keep getting better and better and i know very few authors that have done that before. Also I think there are a lot people waiting for it eagerly.

Summary: *Sighness*
Review: I know how all you guys feel. I've been checking bookstores, online and off, for the final book in her series. Both my younger sister and I love this book, and like many people, we've been waiting for the book to come out for YEARS. I should've waited for the entire series to come out...this waiting BITES. From what I've heard, L.J. became sick and stopped writing. There HAS to be someway to contact the publisher or her and plead for the final book to be released. My friend came up with the theory that the night world, or something like it, is real and it went after L.J. for exposing too many of their secrets, and thus no more series. But yea... it could happen......Anyways, write me anytime you wanna talk bout the series!
