Rating: Summary: The "Gone With the Wind" of comic books Review: I read this classic in high school, and it changed my life; literally. It is the quitessential Batman story, and also the crowning achievement in all of comic book history (along with "The Watchmen", which Berkely uses as a teaching device in their graduate program). This has it all; a great story, social commentary, cultural satire...After reading it, one would have a hard time dismissing it as merely a "comic book"; rather it should be considered a serious example of late twentieth century American literature. Were David O. Selznick (Gone With the Wind) to make a Batman movie, this would be the story.
Rating: Summary: This comic completely shows the darker side of The Batman. Review: This comic completely shows the darker side of the Batman and how he alike with all the other human beings has rage and despereation. His more lethal approach to crime fighting shows him admitting, solving, and eliminating the problem. This is a MUST!
Rating: Summary: A TRUE EPIC Review: I never really liked Batman that much until I found this. I came upoon it in my local bookstore one day and somthing just said to me buy it so i did. I read it the same day I bought it and fell in love with it. This is how the comics should be written but sadly they are not. This just has everything you could wan't from a comic action, suspense, a great plot, and a huge cast of villians. It is also a more darker theme than most of the batman material takes to and it works a lot better. This will forever be my favorite comic of all time, and Mr. Miller if you are reading this I would like to say thank you for bringing such a great peice of art and story to all that have read this. You have created a true masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Just plain great Review: Frank Miller redefined comic books in the '80's with his groundbreaking work on Marvel's Daredeveil and "Dark Knight" his gritty take on a futuristic Batman. Believe it or not, "Dark Knight Returns" changed the world of comic books, making them not just for kids anymore. Frank Miller's Batman is gritty and well, dark. Frank weaves a fantastic story and his layouts are just awesome. This is the definitive Batman tale, taking place in the near future with an aging Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to take back Gotham City from a handful of bad guys such as the Joker, Two-Face, and a savage group of Batman worshippers. This includes the LAST battle between Batman and Joker and a showdown between Batman and Superman! This is a must for any comics fan as well as anyone who ever read a Batman comic. But beware, it is for mature readers.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Comic Book Of All Time Review: In the thirties, Batman was written to perfection by Bob Kane. In the sixties, a television show ruined the character's image. In the eighties, there came A Death in the Family and then a little story titled, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Batman was tough; Joker was brooding; Robin was female; Gordon was retired; Two-Face was, well, one face and Superman was defeated. This was the best comic book ever written.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest comic ever!!! Review: I bought this thinking it was famous just because of it's shocking subject matter (it is written by Frank Miller, after all) but I was thankfully wrong.
Rating: Summary: Is it wrong for me to worship Frank Miller as a deity? Review: Once Upon a time, in an attempt to relive my childhood ( My first comic ever was "Elektra Lives Again", I was seven!), I got, 'Elektra Lives Again', 'The Big Fat Kill' and 'The Dark Knight Returns', all by Frank Miller.. In two weeks, I was busy trying to convince my parents to move to a different state so that I didn't have to give 'The Dark Knight Returns' to the library. Its really that good. Dear Publisher, your magesties,PLEASE PRINT THIS BOOK AGAIN!
Rating: Summary: The best... anything Review: Here's a little concept for you. Take one of the most mysterious and complex characters ever. Then do more with him than anybody ever thought possible. And make the story relevant and riddled with social commentary. Now take all of that and make it epic, touching, and beautiful. Now, here's the kicker... make it a comic book. Frank Miller has created a masterpiece of our time, something that we can send to aliens to prove that we are useful. I will be reading this in my deathbed, and then I want to be buried with it.
Rating: Summary: The best comic ever! Review: Nuff Said
