Summary: A Great Book
Review: I think this novel is a very well written novel that many people, especially high school students can relate to. It has a very powerful message to not judge a book by its cover and do not assume what you think different people are like. The Clan is assumed to commit crimes and be dangerous which is not true. The clan just keep to themselves, they wear all black and do not get involved with anything having to do with school. Baby is the younger brother of Lenny and is very different from him. Baby is put into honors classes after he took a school achievement test. He is now tutored by Casey Willardson whom wants to help him and grows to like him. Baby took the test for himself, not for anyone else. Nobody in the Clan has taken this test. He has broken a rule of the Clan and will have to deal with the consequnces.

Summary: Good Book
Review: I thought Breaking Rank was a good book. Although it did use a similar plot or story-line that books in the past have used, I still consider this a good book. Once you get further and further into the book, it becomes harder to put it down. I think that the story-line was very good. The author also was very creative with the characters. It was interesting the way the author described the Clan, and all the characters. Overall, I think this was a good book and I recommend reading it.

Summary: Breaking Rank - A Wonderful Book!
Review: I thought Breaking Rank was an excellent book! It tells about a teenage boy, Baby (Thomas) who belongs to a "gang", though that's not the write word. It's more of a clan, and the boys in it have their own rules, about not participating in school, dressing in black, and not speaking in public. However, one day Baby takes a step and fills out a test - and is moved from special ed to the gifted program! A bright, pretty girl named Casey tutors him, but it's still a hard journey for Baby, breaking away from his clan. That's not made easier for him when the clan finds out, nor when the boys in his class get upset - especially when he and Casey begin to spend a lot of time together. It's very tense and exciting. I gave this book five stars because it was so well written! I would recommend this book to anyone aged 12 and up.

Summary: Breaking Rank - A Very Good Book!
Review: I thought that Breaking Rank was a excellent choice for students to read in High School. The book related a lot to the lives of teenagers in our day. It talks about a teenage boy (Thomas) who was in a clan which consisted of only boys and they wore all black and only associated with themselves. Thomas was chosen by Mr. Thomas to work with a beautiful, intelligent girl (Casey) who tutored him. Casey was part of the cribs, which were all the kids that weren't in the clan. After awhile Casey and Thomas started to spend a lot of time together and it wasn't just school work that they were doing. When the cribs and the clan found out that Casey and Thomas were working together there was a big fight. The ending of the book was ironic in the sense that it wasn't the way that it was thought to end. You would think that one of the crib members would be the one to shoot someone if anyone did, but it was monkey one of the members of the clan which shot at the cribs and the bullet hit the wall and ended up hitting another one of the clan members instead. I gave this book 5 stars because it was really well written and was one of the only books that I enjoyed reading.

Summary: Breaking Rank
Review: I thought that this book was good. Even though it uses the same type of plot that many other books that were written before it used, I thought it was an interesting book. It kept me interested in reading it. The author took an topic that has been written about many times before and expanded on it, making it a book that the reader will like and not want to put down. Overall, I think it was a good book and I would recommend reading this book.

Summary: shallow, shallow, shallow
Review: Oh my *god*, like, every non-Clan character in the novel talks like *this*, and, like, must be really *dumb* or something! And every Clan character is supposed to be dark and menacing but isn't, really.

Having enjoyed _The Only Alien on the Planet_, I had high expectations for _Breaking Rank_, and they were definitely not met. The book ought to have had a climax in which the deep dark secret of the Clan was revealed...*what* deep dark secret? The characters, including Baby, were not well-drawn, and the book did not speak to me about high school cliques, though I sure attended high school with masses of them. There are great YA novels out there, including Randle's other book. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.

Summary: breaking rank review
Review: The book "breaking rank" i thought it was a very educational book for teenagers in high school. Even thought i as a little unrealistic it stil showed alot that goes on in teenagers lives. for instance there are different groups in highschool that are much like the "clan". There are also many fights that go on in highschool that have to do with jeolousy just like the way gene reacted in the book. The book also showed the relationship between friends and family. this is one of the only books that i have read in school that i havent dreaded to read.i could relate to it alot and i enjoyed the relationship that casey and baby developed. I recommend this book for everyone to read it was really fun to read.

Summary: Book I read in Modern Novels
Review: The book Breaking Rank is about a boy named Thomas, a.k.a, Baby who is a member of what they call "the clan." The Clan is a group of boys who segregate themselves from every one else. The Clan refuses to take part in school. They would rather sit around and do nothing than to understand the real meaning of learning.
Thomas, a.k.a. Baby, was a little different than the rest of the clan members. He knows that he has learned a lot from the Clan but wants to improve himself, to show that he can accomplish more. Thomas takes a standardized test. When the results come back, he finds out that he does extremely well and is even put into the honors program at school. Mr. Hall, a teacher from school, put a girl named Casey in charge of tutoring Baby. Mr. Hall states that "People who love you want the best for you. They are not going to choke you, or reshape you, or stand in your way when you do something good." He encourages baby to work to his potential.
As Casey starts to help Baby, her family is worried for Casey's safety, and her friends start to worry about her because she is befriending them and is with an "Outsider. Casey's mom warns her "You know it's not going to be simple." As they start to work together, they start to have respect for each other and form deep bond.
When the Clan finds out what Baby is up to, they start to lose respect for him and force him out of the Clan. The Clan members taunt Baby. "You never told us you had friends." The clan members eventually become jealous of Baby's new talents and try to get him to come back to the Clan.
As Baby and Casey's relationship grows stronger, Baby's problems become part of Casey's problems. Casey is good person who does no evil but treats her and Baby's relationship as a game. She is attracted to Baby but in the end, doesn't see him as a real person.

Overall, I thought that the book was a great book and I recommend it to anyone. It was a lot like Romeo and Juliet and how they were from two different worlds. Even though, they made it work and form a great relationship.
