Summary: One of Card's best
Review: This is one of Card's best sci-fi stories. The world is utterly convincing, the characters are reasonably well developed (for a science fiction setting), and the plot is complex and engaging.

This book does not tug on the heartstrings as much as LOST BOYS, and the story is not as powerful as ENDER'S GAME, but it is a fun, hard-to-put-down book. Perfect for reading at the beach. I highly recommend it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Wyrms is an incredibly gripping, fascinating novel!
Review: This is, without a doubt, a novel for those readers who are not easily impressed by science fiction. The fast pased plot first draws in adventure lovers, but unfolds to reveal an amazingly philosophic book. The story follows a young girl, Patience, who is secretly the rightful heir to the throne of the human-colonized planet of Imakulata. Since birth, she has been trained to be a convincing diplomat and a deadly assassin in order to survive long enough to fulfill her destiny as the mother of Kristos who will be the savior of the world. She also must learn more about her enemy Unwyrm, who has long been shrowded in mystery. The interesting thing about this book is the racial tension between the humans and the natives of Imakulata, who later become crucial allies to Patience. There are also some very interesting questions regarding genetics and theology. The ending is extremely intense and the book is chock full of savage twists and turns. A very good read. (Beware:there are lots of disgusting sexual parts in this novel, especially at the climax)

Summary: I loved this book many years ago and still do
Review: Though I thought it might be too strange to recommend to women who were not SciFi fans I did anyway and was pleasantly surprised that they did not find it gross.

There were many fine points to this book and the many different names of the characters gave more texture to their actions (Will, Patience, Reck etc).

I highly recommend this book.

Summary: That's Card for you...
Review: Though it is true that this book is rather...disturbing in context, with regard to the whole humans-mating-with-insect-like-lifeforms idea, Wyrms is another (in my opinion) good SF book from Card that simply is marred by several small flaws, one of which is, yes, the mating disturbance. Another problem would be how the book seems to not flow as smoothly as Card's other works seem to...Simple flaws which could be fixed...However, Mr. Card's mastery of creation is used once more to introduce a world where humans live side-by-side (though not always peacefully) with other lifeforms, all with unique characteristics and talents (obviously, this is not a new concept, but the characters are drawn beautifully clearly through Card's words). Patience, the main character, trained in the art of "diplomacy" by her father and his dear friend Angel, is called to the icecaves of the mysterious creature called Unwyrm to decide the fate of the lifeforms on her planet. Unique, deep, and interesting, this book should definitely not be missed by hardcore Card fans...and by those who just like to read books that are...different.

Summary: The book needs to be read twice, at least.
Review: When I first read Wyrms it came over as a pretty weird fantasy tale, set way in the future on a distant settled planet. When I read it again months later I discovered that's not what it's about at all. That's just the shell that Card uses to explore our inner soul.

Wyrms explores the nature of desire and temptation. What are we like inside? Can we stand up and do the things we choose, or are we enslaved to do the things we lust after? It's not spoiling anything to say that, for me, the core of the book comes in the line, "Unwyrm makes gaunts of us all." Read and ponder.

Oh yes. Card is merciless in showing us ourselves, and there are many scenes in the book that are not for the squeamish. But none of it is salacious.

Summary: The Most Disgusting Book Ever
Review: With the amount of time Card spends on the reprodutive abilities of aliens, I seriously begin to doubt him. This book had potential, up unto the point where the girl started lusting after bugs. EW! EW! EW! This book was incredibly horrible, especially towards the end and just plain wrong. I suppose if someone having sex with bugs appeals to you then you should read this book but otherwise, STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
