Summary: A Racy Romance Novel Sure to Keep Those Pages Turning!
Review: "The White Mercedes" is really a very good book, but much different from Pullman's other novels in some ways. This book takes place in modern-day Britain, and includes a great romance, and of course, a mystery (without which it wouldn't meet the definition of a Philip Pullman novel.) Because of a few racy scenes, I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone under twelve.

Summary: Why?
Review: ...Basically I think that this book was way to simple. I dunno if I was dazed while I was reading or what, but there were a lot of detailes and complexity that was missing. The whole book was kinda boring and kinda pointless as well. Im very disapointed of Philip Pullman because all of his other books (the ones that I've read anyway) were brilliant and this one just wasn't up to par.

Summary: Good not quite approprite
Review: a great book but for immatured people it is a bad idea... in one part it gives a very, very grafic depiction of the sexual actions exibited by 16 year old Jenny and Chris

Summary: Fan of Golden Compass
Review: A very different flavor than the Golden Compass series but still very good. Sad ending with a Romeo and Juliet type of twist.

Summary: so utterly fantastic
Review: although i must admit this book didn't have quite as much depth as the sally lockart series and his dark materials series, it was still fantastic. this is a very sad book but i really enjoyed it. i read it in one day. i absoulutly love all of philip pullman's books. this book didn't dissapoint me, i highly recommend it to you, i'm sure it won't dissapoint you either.
when chris sees jenny, it is love instantly, although it takes a little for him to get through to her. however jenny is involved in horrible buisness, someone doesn't like her. and he relizes he is a part of it too, but doesn't mind because he is so head of heels in love. but what would you do if you accidently, but positivly betrayed the one you loved? this a fantastic you must read!

Summary: The White Mercedes
Review: I am 14 years old and i just LOVE this book. The way Philip Pullman writes about Chris's love for Jenny is so awesome! I cried when i read this book! If you are a daydreamer like me you will just fall in love with it!

Summary: Yup. Philip Pullman just doesn't disappoint . . .
Review: I discovered this book after reading the Golden Compass and its companion. I loved it. It's so sad at the end, though! I was furious with the way it ended but not furious at the book, if you know what I mean. I'm once again impressed at how Philip Pullman can change his style, tone, and genre without sacrificing any of his delicious writing skill. Everything is so believable when he tells it. I didn't put all five stars mostly because it just wasn't my favorite book, but it was well written in all aspects. The only part I didn't understand was the last page, about Jenny's father. I've read it over and over again, and I can't tell if it's sarcasm or not. Enlighten me, someone. My last words? Read this book. It's good.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I enjoyed "Count Karlstein," "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife," and "The Ruby in the Smoke" and its sequels, but I was very disappointed with "The White Mercedes." It is a most depressing, negative story. The writing is inferior to that in Mr. Pullman's other books, and some of the content is almost pornographic. This might be all right in a book written for grown-ups (though I wouldn't care to read it), but it doesn't belong in a YA book.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Quite Disappointing-Not Worth Reading
Review: I have read many of Philip Pullmans other books, so I must say that my expectations for this were high and perhaps that's why I gave it such a low rating.
The whole atmosphere of this book was that of a drugstore mystery, one that is just on the shelf and nobody really buys it. The story is about a guy, Chris, that sees a girl and it is just love at first sight. Usually, if it were written right, this would definitely be a book that I would enjoy. But Philip Pullman just did not pull off what he had in his other books, perhaps it was writers block. One thing about this book is that it does not convince me that Chris and Jennys (the girl Chris loves) are truly in love. There are moments when you think, "Hey, this could be pretty interesting." But it turns out just being a false alarm. Another disappointment is that nothing is really a surprise, I guessed everything that was set up as if it should be a surprise and that totally took away from the book.
All in all, I do not recommend this book but I do recommend Philip Pullmans other books, especially the His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass). I suggest finding a better book than this to spend your time reading.
