Rating: Summary: Incredible!!!! Review: This is an AMAZING novel. It is hard to believe that this is the author's first novel! It is so exciting! I could not put it down! It is original and unlike anything ou there, even other animal stories. Although it is about deer, it is very mature. It is more for older children (12+) because there are some harsh scenes. I fell in love with the main character because he is so real. I have read many books, and this is at the top with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. A great read for anyone!
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: I just started this booka couple of days ago, and so far it is very good. I have read about 100 pages. The main character is a deer, Rannoch. This book reminds me of the holocaust. In it, the herd of deers would be the Jews, because the deers are forced to live under the vicious rulings of Drail (Hitler), and his sidekick Sgorr. Drail has his own kind of army and bodyguards(Nazi) called Draila. Anybody who doesnot follow the rules is taken away. The fighters are killed. I recommend this book because the story is very detailed, and you want to keep reading. For teens and adults looking for a lighter read.
Rating: Summary: Intresting and Intense Review: This book was amazing! It was very intense and kept me up until 12:00 at night reading! I couldn't stop reading because it had things like the prophecy, where if you were not paying close attention the meaning of something like the oak mark might not make sense. Plus it had things like foxes, wolves and words that were knew like lera and herla. They also had beliefs in things like the god Herla (I think that's his name) and tales of Starbuck and the lera. And the most important part of the story is the prophecy. I must say that this book is very intense, and is really for people who REALLY read. I loved it!!!!!
Rating: Summary: a bit like this other book... Review: Fire Bringer is great! I loved it! However, it's a bit like Watership Down--wait, a lot like Watership Down... I give this book five stars--ten,in fact!
Rating: Summary: Good lightreading... Review: I know that the plotline of a destined one is a tale as old as time. It mimicked the story of Jesus continually. This is a good adventure though vague in spots where it shouldn't have been this is an author that created something and would have been a little better with this one had he had this be the beginning of a series. It's not an indepth journey for the most part of the book, but it's an interesting journey none the less. I really hope that Mr.Davies continues writing, afterall there is always room for improvement! I hope to find that his writing style will relax a bit and flow a little more. This book is just part of the evolution. I agree on the title not being a good one.. I know that the editor did a review here and that is nice of you, but you shouldn't be in charge of coming up with a title. That one instance lends nothing to the story in a significant way. Maybe "The Oak Leaf" would have been more appropriate, it was constantly referred to in the novel. Something with more consistency is better grasped by a reader. Obscurity and rarity of an instance in a book does not make a title.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat disappointing.. Review: On the surface Fire Bringer seemed like a wonderful book to have. I love fantasy stories and original anthropomorphic ones are rare indeed. I was, however, disappointed more than a few times with this book. Fire Bringer (wrongfully titled, I might add), begins as a very good book. The plot is somewhat predictable, but it does have some twists and still remains original in its own way. It is intense enough for teenagers, like myself, yet its lighthearted enough for younger readers who aren't intimidated by its length. The way the book is written, with its original terms for things in the natural world and social structure of the deer is very good; it's always interesting when an author can create their own "world" for their story. But despite the fact that the plot is gripping, the writing style however, is not. (If you want a truly gripping fantasy storyline, head for Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series) If written by someone more competent, I believe the book would have been much better. Rannoch's broodiness at times became annoying, his relationship with Willow was lacking (even though there should've been no connection between them to begin with, based on the author's descriptive of how stags treat their "harem" earlier in the book), and the only truly charming characters I found were Eloin and Bankfoot (Brechin, alas, didn't last long enough for my tastes). And, although Sgorr's "secret" was shocking, the reasoning for it seemed to lack something and left the villian still a bit too two-dimensional. Plus, the whole deal with Herne is always left a little shakey. The author never really seems to decide whether he wants the forest god to truly exist or not. While reading the book, it was quite enjoyable. But since I've finished, and I did just finish it today, I suppose I'm a tad bitter. The ending is horrid. The few minor flaws in the book would be easily forgivable if the author would have just ended the book a few pages earlier(anyone who's read it will know where I mean). But the ending is thoughtless, somewhat morbid, and doesn't seem to complete the story at all. I advise anyone reading this book to stop before the very last section in the final chapter. It really is an entertaining book, but the ending completely soured the experience for me.
Rating: Summary: A great book!!!! Review: To be honest, I don't normally like to read. But when I started reading Fire Bringer I was instantly hooked. I had to keep on reading. I had tried to read Watership Down before but this was different. The reading was easier and the story was great. There are all kinds of twists along with the mysterious prophecy and some great characters. I can't wait until "The Sight" comes out!!
Rating: Summary: The best Book Ever Review: Have you ever wondered about what it's like to be a deer? Well in Fire Bringer you find out that being a deer is not so easy. "In a dark and troubled time, a prophecy is about to come true..." This is a book about the life of a young deer named Rannoch. He is born with a fawn mark shaped as an oak leaf, which can only mean the prophecy... Are the gods awakened? Now evil forces of deer are gathering for war and there can't be any good ahead. Fire Bringer is a story of war, friendship, survival, and a young deer's adventure to escape death. During the whole book, I could not wait to flip to the last page and find out the mystery behind all the war, Sgorr's terrible secret, and especially the forbidden prophecy. This is a book of suspense and action. I recommend this book to anyone who likes action and personification. Fire Bringer is the kind of book you will read under the covers late at night and you won't be able put it down. Fire Bringer is the best book that I've ever read, and the most suspenseful book too. It has touched me deep inside, and will definitely do the same for others.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD BOOK Review: I quickly just want to say that even though i had to read this book for library class. It is the best book i have ever read. I am buying the paperback version as soon as it comes out. Someone could easily read this book an infinte amount of times and not get bored! This was a very good book,.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book Review: This is the best of the animal fantasies i have ever read, equal to the ever popular Watership Down. This book really gripped me like no other book did and i hope it will grip you too. It talks of a prophecy (When the lore is bruised and broken, shattered like a blasted tree then shall Herne be justly woken...) and a deer called Rannoch whom was a gift from herne, the deer god, and was born to fulfill it. Fire bringer is a wonderful book in itself and i am pretty surprised that it only got 4 1/2 stars and not 5 stars.
