Rating: Summary: A Moving, Funny, Sexy and Sad Story All In One. Review: Judy Blume does it again. This book is a great journey through a remarkable friendship. You grow with the characters, hurt and laugh with them too. It's a book that will make you remember happy childhood memories with a sad tune. Judy Blume remarkably reminds us that sometimes "family" is not defined through blood lines.
Rating: Summary: Started off good but the ending was a little disappointing. Review: I read Judy Blume when I was young and have always enjoyed her adult books as well. This book started off good and continued to be so throughout most of the book. My only complaint is that she rushed the ending too much. The whole climax of the book was done in a few short pages. Very disappointing. She could have developed the girls' relationship (as adults) a little more. I felt the book was just lacking in the end. Other than that, this was a good book and I am looking forward to Judy's next "adult" novel.
Rating: Summary: Much better than the summer's hit "Bridget Jones Diary" Review: This was a great book, I loved it. I especially liked her facts about New Mexico, they were correct. I liked reading about Martha Vineyard. The characters Vix and Caitlin were so much like my summer friends. Although I checked the book out from the library, I have considered buying it. That's how well I enjoyed it...
Rating: Summary: Perfect vacation reading Review: I loved Judy Blume books as a young girl, and I enjoyed this book just as much. It was perfect vacation reading and I could not put it down. What a pleasant change from all the serious (and sometimes depressing) Oprah's Book Club offerings!
Rating: Summary: As much depth and relevance as an I-Can-Read Book! Review: I gave this book to my mother for her birthday foolishly relying on the best seller list as a guarantee of a good read. While I experienced a fairly typical childhood, I failed to recognize Caitlin and Vix as realistic adolescents. After I read this childish (The Power?!!), melodramatic drivel, I shared my disappointment with my mom. She told me that she, too, thought the book was for teeny boppers. She hadn't shared her assessment with me before because she didn't want to hurt my feelings. I imagine this book will make its way through the seventh grade with the "appropriate" pages dog-eared and the "hot" sentences underlined just like Blume's novels Forever and Wifey did when I was 13 years old.
Rating: Summary: Judy Blume can still reel me in Review: I, like many others greww up reading Blume's works and was excited she had written an adult novel. I can remember reading her books through class in Jr High and High school because I was so engrossed I couldn't stop. This book was the same, I would forgo laundry and cleaning to read until it was finished. I hope she writes more books for adults in the future. Anyone who liked her books as a teen will LOVE this as an adult.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, I didn't want this book to end. Review: Wow, while reading this book I could really relate to my own summers growing up. I often thought about my summer sister. My only regret is that the book had to end.
Rating: Summary: will keep your attention Review: especially if you've ever had a close friend or two . . . i found myself caring about the characters and wanted to see how things would work out at the end.
Rating: Summary: I've outgrown this type of writing Review: I, too, loved reading Judy Blume books growing up, but as I read Summer Sisters, I realized that I have outgrown this adolescent writing. I found that the "adult" books seem to still be written for a younger audience than an adult. I did read the book in about 3 days, but it didn't leave me wanting to continue a relationship with either of the main characters or wonder what she would do in real life situations. Yes, I did have a friend like Caitlin, but I outgrew her as well.
Rating: Summary: What a waste of precious time!! Review: I was totally disappointed with this book. My only hope was that the next page might be better, but it never came to pass. The reading level of Summer Sisters seems geared to young teens but yet the subject matter is trying to reach an older group. I am really surprised that so many people seemed to enjoy this mundane offering from Judy Blume.
