Rating: Summary: Captivating! Review: I thought this book was absolutely amazing I read it in just one weekend. It was magical and entertaining. You may or may not agree with the ending, but it will captivate you!
Rating: Summary: TERRIFIC!! Page-turner from start to end!!! Review: This book is the BEST! IT takes you into the believable lives of Victoria "Vix" Leonard and Caitin Somers. It then tells of their lives in the eighties and ninties. While Vix goes to college, Caitlin lies her way through life in Europe schools, never bothering to call. This book will rip you out of the real world and into the world of everlasting friendship and summer sisters.
Rating: Summary: Brought back memories of my summer sister! Review: This book grabs you from the beginning till the very end. It is one you won't want to put down. You'll be dieing to find out what happens next. But like the summer, you never want it to end!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book Down!!! Review: I was a huge fan of Judy Blume as a teenager and I found thisbook at the bookstore and quickly purchased it. I was upset when Ifinished it. I didn't want the story to end...I hope there will be a major motion picture about Summer Sisters.I highly recommend this book to any women who grew up with a summer sister. It reminded me alot of my childhood best friend.
Rating: Summary: Not so bad Review: Unlike the majority of the other reviewers I had not read anything by Judy Blume so I didn't know what to expect. Summers Sisters seems to be geared to younger teens but the subject matter would be inappropriate. In some ways it reminded me of my teens (high school days). Watching the girls growing up reminded me of how I have lost track of friends I couldn't live without. Wondering how many children they had, were they married and were they okay with themselves. This book reminds me of a classmate dying at 16 of cancer. Which I had forgotten. I, as a parent would have reacted totally different. Where was the discipline? Abbey tried but... By the time Caitlin was an adult, she was way out of line. On the other hand, I wouldn't have been as nice as Vix. Sorry! But I wouldn't have. No matter what I think you can learn from everything you do and I would say this book was not a waste of time. It just reinforces in me that money isn't everything. It doesn't help you to live your life to the fullest, make you a better person or even help you find happiness.
Rating: Summary: A quick read but dissapointing Review: I enjoyed the book and read it quickly but was left feeling dissapointed. It felt like a book for young readers. I never felt the love Vix felt for Caitlan -- just appreication for the opportunities her friendship gave her. I bought the fun they had as kids but lost it soon after. We never got to know Caitlan has anything but shallow and shelfish -- why would Vix love her?
Rating: Summary: Keep 'em coming! Review: Judy Blume's latest book reminded me of the one's I read growing up; those that helped me know I wasn't the only teenager growing up with problems. It was a book I didn't want to put down and I hope Judy plans on writing another adult novel soon.
Rating: Summary: wonderful, full of my childhood memories Review: this book was simply magnificent. it reminded me of my best friend and the times we once shared. we all have to grow up and this book demonstrates that idea. it only took me a day to finish this one. i couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: A dissapointing book. Review: Although I read this book in 2 days, it wasn't for the fact it was a real page turner. I did not consider this an adult read. It reminded me of the books I read in high school. Is Judy Blume now used to writing to the young adult audience? Makes me wonder if she'll come around in her next "adult" book. I hope so.
Rating: Summary: Where's the love? Review: I bought this one simply because I'm a Blume fan from way back; I can recall staying up way past my bedtime with a flashlight under the covers to find out if Margaret ever got her period, etc. What I've always loved most about her characters, male or female, was the fact that no matter who you were, you could identify with them and root for them in some way.Which is what I found so disappointing about this book. It's well-written and the characters are terrifically developed as always. . .but they're just completely unlikable! Yes, I had friends like Caitlin when I was growing up, but I grew up and for the most part, they never did. As for Vix, she just doesn't ring true to me; that's not a working-class kid talking, period. And I've never known anyone as mature and well adjusted as she sounds, who would pine for a high school crush like that, especially when he never really grows up either. Better luck next time, Judy.
