Rating: Summary: Totally disappointed Review: I was glad that I borrowed this rather than buying it - what a total disappointment. I found the whole premise of Abby and Lamb not only bring Vix to the Vineyard every year - even without Caitlin strange, but to pay for private school tuition? Please! And Vix and Bru had pretty much NO relationship except during the summer - no phone calls, letters, etc? Vix running away to Trisha, Bru not talking about his mom - I don't know - I just found the whole thing pretty dumb! The writing itself also seemed very disjointed and juvenile, and SO cliche. A fast read, but I can't say I would recommend it to anyone...
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Incredible story! Review: I had been on a waiting list at the local library for months for this book. It was so worth the wait! I started reading it one morning, and I just couldn't put it down. There are very few books that have that effect on me. I think that I personally liked it because it reminded me of old friends. The plot was great! I loved the characters. I was totally grabbed until the last page.....and when the book was finished I was sad that it was all over. I didn't want to stop. I would recommend this book to anyone. Go and order it today, it was definitely the best read for me this year. :)
Rating: Summary: This is a great book to read while on vacation! Review: I'm 27 years old and grew up reading Judy Blume books. I was very pleased to learn that she had written a book for adults and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I read it this past summer while on vacation and can't think of a better book to recommend for a relaxing vacation read. I enjoyed reading about the differnet paths both girls chose to take with their lives and really grew to love Catlin. I was sad for the entire day when I finished the book because I still wanted to pick up the book to find out what would happen next. Summer Sisters is a definite must for all young women who enjoy reading about friendship, love and life.
Rating: Summary: Absolutly amazing Review: I just can't say enough...I believe that i have recomended this book to every girl that i have run across since i first picked it up....And the funny thing is that i stumbled upon it at the book store...Litereally, there was a stack of them on the floor and i tripped, and bought the book. The characters were so realistic, and true to the heart. And never before have i been so captured by an ending. This book takes womanhood: discovering it, experiencing it, and holding it dear, puts it in a capsule for us all to admire. And even the stuff that some of us thought we were the only one's who ever had that piece... She lets us know that that isn't as true as we may have thought.
Rating: Summary: When do we get to the meat of the story? Review: This is the first story of Judy Blume's that I have read. I really felt silly for reading this book as an adult because of the simplistic way it's written. It is more suitable for teenagers. This is one that I won't be sharing with my friends. I'll let my 12 year old read it when she's 16.
Rating: Summary: Forever... Review: Forever... was a really really good book. It is definatly one of my personal favorites. I have read all of her books and they are all great. She really tells girls (and guys, reffering to Then again, maybe I wont) what they are going through. I myself am 13 and Judy has definatly told me I'm not alone, there are many other people with the same problem. Lots of girls feel embarrased to talk to their mom or dad about these kind of things or they feel like their the only one who does this or something like that. With Judy's books you get the info. you need on you and know your not alone. Other authors don't go near those subjects and most parents make up a bunch of crap about storks or just say you'll find out when your older. If you want the truth go to her books. Oh yeah and this book is really interesting and it is about two teenagers and it might seem gross to some but I mean its just the facts of life or err.. something.
Rating: Summary: Adolescent yes, but charming and exotic Review: This book is not for the stiff, strictly conservative, stuffedshirt kind of woman who can't get beyond her own imagination. Thisbook is a great story with a surprising ending. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It spoke of the kind of friendship I only dreamed of having as a girl and teenager and woman. It has an air of adolescence to it, but that is part of what the girls go through to become women.
Rating: Summary: A celebration of lies, manipulation and irresponsibility Review: I have no idea WHY. I don't know Why I have read this book more than once. It's one thing to have a manipulating friend when you're 12. When you're adults and she's still lying to you and marrying your ex-lover, it's time to throw in the towel.Vix is a person so grateful, she's become a doormat to Caitlin. Caitlin can do anything and it doesn't matter. Who cares if Caitlin is a selfish brat who cares only about herself? Certainly not Vix. I failed to understand their friendship, which borders on abusive and codependent.
Rating: Summary: If you loved Judy Blume growing up, you'll love this one! Review: This book was exactly what I hoped it would be. I loved Judy Blume as a 10-12 year old and I've read all her books for "Adults." I have a friendship that reminded me of Vix and Caitlain's, so this novel really hit home for me. Friendships like this are important, even if they are sometimes painful. Blume portrayed the way young girls often betray the ones they love the most quite vividly. Sometimes these friendships end up stronger for it. It's up to the individual reader to decide if Cait and Vix's did.
Rating: Summary: Captivating and addictive; but no less, a teenage book Review: Yes, there is a ton of sex in this book and many other things, but minus all of that, and you've got a teen novel. It's as simple as that. The style that it was written in and the way the plot was laid out, you can tell that she might have been slipping into a "Dear God" moment. Maybe that is why the more mature audiences do not have wonderful things to say about this book! In short, if you expect to come out of a 400 page book with something to apply to your own life, don't waste your time because you won't.
