Summary: inaccurate details?
Review: I lost most of my interest in this book after Caitlin and Vix stopped spending their summers together. One thing that caught my attention was that some of the time period references seemed wrong. I'm not sure, but I don't remember seeing Birkenstocks and Tevas as early as they were described in the book, and 90210 wasn't on yet in 1987. It's minor, but I usually enjoy those details when they're accurate.

Review: I had read every Judy Blume novel in print in junior high and thus was surprised to see her in print in the adult arena --- excellent! engrossing! could not put it down!! everyone has the one friend from childhood whom they stay in touch with through the ages and with whom they can share everything -- can't wait to pick up her other adult novels -- this review is from someone who never reads romance novels and focuses on current fiction and suspense -- ie. James Patterson, Michael Palmer, Dean Koontz -- this is a quick, easy read --- a light Pat Conroy novel!

Summary: "Forever" all over again
Review: I was looking forward to reading this book, as I loved Judy Blume's books as a child/young adult. Unfortunately, while I have grown as a person and in my reading choices, Ms. Blume's writing hasn't kept pace. Her main characters were uninteresting, one dimensional, and focused almost exclusively on sex. It was in the same genre as "Forever", only marketed to adults.

Summary: Growing up with Judy Blume is wonderful
Review: I thought this book was great. It brought back a lot of memories of growing up. I have been reading Judy Blume books since I was a kid and it' very comforting to have her continue into adult literature. It's like coming home to a good friend.

Review: Doesn't it say enough that many of these good reviews came from teenage girls? When I finished this book I felt as if someone had insulted my intelligence. Judy needs to stick to the young-adult genre.

Summary: Very refreshing reading!!!!!
Review: I have been a fan of Judy Blume since grade school. This book really took me by surprise! i read this book in a matter of 10 hours over 2 days. Blume really hits the nail on the head with what Caitlin and Vix go through. I found myself relating to each girl in some way. I laughed, cried and even got mad. The one thing I was surprised she did was reveal the end of the book at the beginning. But as I read I could see we were living Vix's memory out. Without giving the ending away - there is room for a second book with these 2 girls - so Judy if you are reading I am already in line for the sequel! This book will be easy reading and when you read the last word - you will wish there was a sequel as well as I do! I loved how the two girls come from such different families and somewhere inside we all wish we had a little bit of Caitlin and Vix in us! One thing it does prove old friends are the best and cherish every friendship you have. When I picked up this book and started to read I felt as if I had been reunited with an old friend in the author, i have missed her writing so much. THANKS JUDY!!!!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I had a long list of books I wanted for Christmas and this was the only one I got. But, that's OK! It was great. I decided to start it at about 3:00 one afternoon, then realized I would be unable to rest until I had read it all! I didn't go to bed until it was done. Growing up I read almost all of Judy Blume's books, and I didn't know what to expect from her as an adult. I love her just as much as I did as a kid. I found the book entertaining and thought-provoking. The characters were interesting, even the ones I didn't care for. If you loved Judy Blume when you were 13, give Summer Sisters a try.

Summary: I loved the book -- she captured the vineyard and friendship
Review: This book was perfect. I could not put it down. I summer on the vineyard every year and she portrayed it perfectly and mentioned many places we all visit. The relationship between the two friends was amazing, I felt I grew up with them.I would reccommend this book to anyone who has had a best friend or needs a vacation.

Summary: Do yourself a favor and read this book!
Review: I've always read Judy Blume books. Her books would always come highly anticipated, and each time would surpass the set expectations. This year I was awaiting the latest Blume creation and it happened to come the night before a big Calculus exam. It was hard but I kept away, dutifully studying the whole night without taking a peak. But as my eyes grew weary and the first rays of sunlight gently streamed in, I knew I had to stop studying for a little break. Fix some food, take a peak at Summer Sisters and go back up. No sooner had I picked it up, that I was powerless to surrendes to the forces of Judy. From page one I was hooked. I forgot about my exam and read from dawn until I got to school, when I had to literally START the exam. The thing with Summer Sisters, is you can't take it too deeply but you can't take it too lightly. Some of the reviews I read were of people with 'dry' minds. All books must have an essence of dryness in them to be considered artistic, moving. Either a hard dialogue to follow or a sort of slow start usually qualifies a hefty novel. But then you have these gifted authors like Blume, Salinger, Binchy who have this incredible power to drive the reader in and it amazes me each time. There is a looseness around Judy Blume's new novel, the sex mainly. But the primary purpose may have been to drive away the attention from more important points that are only noted by the observer. Caitlin's flighty and unpredictable ways are made to make Vix feel jealous and inferior. This is Caitlin's whole goal. She is incredibly scared, she sees Vix as competition like Vix never knew until it was too late. The story is tragic because Caitlin to everyone seems like a bitch and she is. It's more difficult to see that because Vix is narrating the novel and can't think of one bad thing to say about Caitlin. And not once does Caitlin narrate. See, you dry readers, Blume has fooled you. Under the grabbing texts, and heavy sex scenes is a very intricate plot woven around these two. A bond unbreakable between two people so different, and yet the same in a way. They just act out differently to the emotion of fear. Vix acts in, Caitlin acts out. When they get the power of Cassandra and Vixen they are really locked closer because they each dropped their insecurities. But as they become older, things change and the higher Caitlin's mountain goes up against Vix. So yeah, don't let your twelve year old son read it, he won't understand it, but read it girls out there and read it well.

Summary: A rare, accurate look at a close friendship between females
Review: In our society, women often end up hating each other. This book shows why. It shows how precious a close friendship between women can be, but how difficult it is to maintain. Vix (our narrator) and the brief narratives from other characters show a deep look into their thoughts. While the ending is dissapointing, this book reminded me of a close friendship I had that seemed like it would last forever in the beginning, but ended up failed in the end. This book will defintely bring out strong emotional reactions women who have had similar experiences, and I know there are many of them.
