Summary: Graphic Yet Compelling Piece of work.
Review: Although this is not your average Judy Blume Book, (like Superfudge or Are you there God? It's me Maragret) Judy Blume outdoes herself in a rather sexually graphic, yet heartwarming story about 2 childhood friends named Caitlin and Vix. Throughout this book, the reader feels for Vix as she's going through many obstacles in here life. Through each page, you the reader will hang on this emotional roller coaster ride of Vix's life as she faces struggles all the way up to her adult years. The ending is unpredicable but not as enjoyable as I though it would be. Still it is a great novel and I highly recommend it!

Summary: Waited for paperback-glad I did
Review: As an avid reader of Blume's books, I was so excited to see this book on the shelves. I waited until it came out in paperback and I am glad I did. The characters were not very well developed and left me hoping that their story lines would improve. The ending was very predictable and Vix certainly did not understand the other friendships that she found with her college friends who were seriously in need of more plot. Overall, it was an easy read, a summer read, but not the read I expected from one of my favorite adolescent authors.

Summary: I don't believe in throwing books away, but....
Review: this one went into the trash. I was very disappointed. I read and loved all of Blume's books as a child and so when I was in need of a vacation book, and had no idea what I wanted, I picked up Summer Sisters. I was distracted by the poor quality of the writing, technically speaking, although it did improve as the book went on. More importantly, I found that the story line was weak, and Blume was stretching to entertain her audience rather than augment the story with her excessive, redundant sex scenes.

Contrary to another reader's opinion, I was not impressed with Blume's description of the book's settings, or with her development of the characters.

To sum it up, I don't recommend this book. Unless you are looking for a mindless and quick read, spend your literary dollars elsewhere.

Summary: Enjoyable summer reading
Review: I actually read the entire book in one day traveling on a train from Philadelphia to Virginia. It was enjoyable - I hadn't read a Judy Blume book in years (my daughters read them now). I felt that the sexuality experienced by Vix and Caitlin was true to life but I felt that ending was a bit contrived. I recommend this book as light summer reading.

Summary: Not literature but a very fine beach book
Review: I'm new to Judy Blume, whom I've just met--a cute, emotional, very likeable person. This book reads like a junior high novel, yet the plot is gripping. I'd never call the book literature, but novice writers can learn a lot from Judy Blume about how to build a story. (Use the appeal to the shock of recognition--I mean the parts about coming of age about sex--but leave out the gratuitous references to serious matters you don't intend to explore in your book like a brother with birth defects, an unplanned teenage pregnancy, and overdosing on marijuana.) A good read. Linda Donelson, Author of "Out of Isak Dinesen"(Out of Africa's true story)

Summary: Blah...
Review: I loved Judy Blume's books when I was younger, and I was looking forward to reading one of her adult books. I was very disapointed! Summer Sisters just did not click with me. I couldn't relate to the characters, at any age; and I really did not care what happened to them. It was an easy read, but at the end of it I felt like I had wasted my time. Judy Blume is still a great writer, she just needs to stick to the pre-teen crowd.

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read!!!!!
Review: I REALLY was unable to put this book down, I know this is a common thing to say but I mean it literally. I was just upset that it went so fast, I was hoping that it would never end!!! Excellent character development and colorfully written. My advice.... Don't start this if you have any engagements that day.

Summary: This book explores the mysteries of growing up
Review: There is no picture of summer life more complete and innocent than the one described in Judy Blume's latest adult novel, Summer Sisters. This is a wonderful reading experience for anyone who loves to sit back and enjoy the pleasures of childhood, or relive the romance of first love, the secrets of friendship, and the mysteries of life. This novel follows the friendship and discoveries of two girls from very different families, taking place on Martha's Vineyard every summer since they were ten years old. Vix is a shy, timid girl from a relatively poor family. Caitlin is the new girl in school. Bright, beautiful, and bursting with energy, Caitlin quickly wins the heart of everyone she meets. At the end of the school year, Caitlin always asks someone to spend the summer at her father's home on the Vineyard, and it is always a big contest to see who she will pick. So, you can imagine Vix's surprise when Caitlin invites HER to join her for the summer. What an adventure! , is all that keeps running through Vix's mind. She can't believe that someone like Caitlin would ask her to come to the Vineyard! It takes a little work to convince her parents, who are very skeptical of the ways of the rich, to let her go, but they agree just the same. So, off they go into what becomes the start of the strangest...and most beautiful...of friendships. Follow Caitlin and Vix as they experience life for the first time-and then do it all over again. You'll find that, through the years, both of these unusual characters will become more like each other, each one taking on characteristics that you would have thought only the other could possess. It is very interesting to see where they eventually end up...and with whom. Judy Blume has an amazing gift for reliving childhood stories and special moments in her life as though they are happening for the first time. This book is a classic example of how the experiences of the author can directly influence the story. The most satisfying component of this novel is that Blume does not keep anything from the reader. She tells of the mixed-up lived of these two lost souls with a fresh, raw style that is rare in many authors today. She is truly a woman who knows how to convey to the reader the thoughts and feelings of each individual character, without missing a beat. She is able to take us on the ride of a lifetime, with a lot of little stops along the way. As in her previous novels for both adults and children, Blume leads you to believe that everything is going be alright, and then shows you that nothing is what it seems. Growing up never is. Overall, Summer Sisters, is a unique tale of life as we know it--unforgettable.

Summary: Somewhat entertaining but dissappointingly predictable
Review: As a long-standing childhood fan of Judy Blume, I was very dissappointed in Summer Sisters. Character development was lacking and I lost interest in the story at several points during the book. Caitlin's behavior was predictable at every turn and Vix was pathetically manipulated by Caitlin's every move from the beginning. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
