Rating: Summary: Attention gasping!! Heart breaking & joyful at the same time Review: This is the first novel by Judy Blume I have ever read. I bought it at the grocery store to have something to read over a slow weekend. This was dynamite!! She's wonderful. The story grabbed my attention and my heart. I believe all of us can relate to a friend like Vix & Catilain. Even after all that happened, they WERE the best of friends. Life is full of ups and downs, this book touched on this. Happiness, sorrow, and truth. It was a fast reading book and I want to read more by Judy Blume. She's infestious!!!
Rating: Summary: Blume Just Like I Remember Her Review: As a teenage girl, I lived to read Judy Blume's fiction. Unfortunately, she forgets that writing for adults is (or should be) unlike writing for teens. I agree with the reviewer who said to buy this book for your teenage daughter. Purchase yourself a more meaningful work unless you're wistful for that adolescent frame of mind.
Rating: Summary: You gotta be kidding me? Review: I couldn't believe this was the same Judy Blume that I grew up reading and loving. Or has my taste just evolved since I was 12? This was an extremely shallow book, full of cliches and very transparent. First of all, how many of us know this many people with such stupid, unheard of names : Vix, Bru, Lamb, Sharkey, Paisley, Von? Second, none of the characters were even developed. I never felt sorry for Vix, never 'hated' Caitlin (didn't really even care about her). I could of told you what was going to happen after reading the first chapter. And I really didn't get the gratuitous lesbian thing, what was the point? And the part about Lamb and the countess taking a bath together 'bobbing' boobs and all, sick! The kid was five, how disgusting. How did this add to the story? Speaking of that, this book was full of plot lines that never went any where, or add to the story. Poor Judy tried to wrap everything up in the end, and failed. Save your self sometime and leave this one on the shelf.
Rating: Summary: Excellent summer reading Review: I can relate to these summer sisters. Growing up on an island in New England myself, this book brought back alot of memories..... God love ya, Caitlin.
Rating: Summary: A book for "simpletons". Review: This book is extremely overrated!! I don't understand its 4-star rating. The story was not original, the writing was shallow, and there was no explanation into Caitlin's psyche. It was not even a good book for mindless entertainment. I'm just happy that its price matched its quality. This book does not even qualify as good beach reading material considering its current competition.
Rating: Summary: A DELIGHT FOR ANY SEASON-WONDERFUL! Review: Judy Blume had us captivated as kids and now she's done it again! Summer Sisters is a page-turner whose well developed characters will stay with you long after you've turned the last page. If you want a great read for any season, buy this book; you'll love it!
Rating: Summary: COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!!!!! Review: I started and finished this book within 36 hours! I hadn't really read any Judy Blume books since "Are You There...." way back about 15 years ago. When someone told me of this book, I bought it out of curiosity, just to see how well she wrote adult fiction. I was blown away, to say the least! Vix and Caitlin are two of the most opposite people that I have ever read about but for some reason they "click". Their summer adventures took me with them and I was thoroughly entertained. They were "summer sisters" who grew up together, who went through emotionally trying times and came out the other side still friends. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to anyone who asks me!! I also look forward to reading more of Blume's works
Rating: Summary: Extremely Engrossing! Review: I picked up the book at my sister's when I was visiting her last weekend. She warned me not to start reading but did I listen?? Of course not, and every spare second I could muster in the following 48 hours, I spent reading this book. I literally could not put it down. The book is not a life-altering experience by any means, but it is a fabulously enjoyable jaunt back to your youth. For some reason I could not wait to find out the fate of the herione, Victoria, and her selfish "friend" Caitlin.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put this book down! Review: I didn't even know Judy Blume wrote Adult Fiction until I saw the book at the store. I was so excited because I had loved her books as a teen. I bought the book on Friday and read it all day Saturday. I couldn't put it down until I finished. The book had me laughing and crying. I don't think there is anyone that can't help but feel bad for Vix at certain parts in the book and also to ultimately cry and feel bad for Caitlin at the end. A great book that I would highly recommend to anyone that wants a good cry and a good laugh all at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Witty, genuine, engaging Review: For the past three nights I have stayed up well past mid-night reading Summer Sisters. This is an enjoyable read that women in particular will relate to. As a 40 something career woman, I remember well my early pre-teen, teen and young adult loves, struggles to understand my parents and emerging attempts to understand myself and the world around me. Thanks, Judy for this wonderful book.
