Summary: Very moving, impossible-to-put-down book!!!!
Review: This was a great book, obviously intended for the adult reader. I found the relationship between Vix and Caitlin both very special and wonderful, yet incredibly heart-breaking at the same time. As someone in the book says, I honestly believe most of us have had a friend like Caitlin.

While there was no real insight into why Caitlin turned into such an irresponsible, cruel adult, we can indeed speculate. She had no real family unit, as her mother was so free-spirited and flitting from boyfriend to boyfriend. Her father she only saw during the summers. Thus, there was a definite lack of parental attention and supervision.

This story is also about why people hold on to that one friend who keeps breaking your heart. The story doesn't explain why Vix doesn't break ties with Caitlin, and there doesn't seem to be an answer to this question in real-life relationships such as this.

I found this book hard to put down, and really hated for it to end. Judy Blume has always had a special place in my heart, as I read her books growing up and it's obvious that she really understands all the pain and different emotions people experience in life, from childhood through adulthood.

Summary: If your time is very valuable.....don't waste it with this
Review: I'm 22 years old---maybe not even an adult yet--, and the situations in this book are even annoying to ME! You know what is cool?--if you have to name a baby soon, pick a name out of this book---very hip.

Summary: Are you there Judy? It's me, an annoyed reader...
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed all of Judy's teen-themed books as a kid. I was excited to read that she had written a book specifically for my audience -- her readers who grew up reading her stories, but are now grown ups. Unfortunately, I opened the book to find that it was written mainly about the girls we left behind when we grew up. I didn't need/want another coming of age story. What I appreciated about Judy's voice (or her character's voice) in those books when I was younger was that it was fresh; she said the things we were far too scared to say ourselves. We knew, through reading her, that there were people out there thinking "unGodly" things, questioning the very things we were questioning, etc... I expected an Adult story with this same voice. I'm thoroughly disappointed with the what I read instead. That said, I gave up on wanting an adult story and tried to read yet another "teen girls experiment with sex and get hurt" plot. But that's all it was. I'm offended that this book is described as being a representation of the "female psyche." I didn't recognize any part of myself in the actions of Vix, Caitlin, Star, Abby, Phoebe, etc. And that's sadly all it was: actions. What happened to developing a character? For a book with so much internal dialogue, there was NO character depth. Perhaps, as I've been told, I expected too much.

Summary: An excellent portrayal of best friends, and their struggles
Review: Judy Blume has doneit again! She's written a novel that almost any woman in America can relate to. A story of best friends and their struggles, trials, and tribulations through life. This book proves that, come anything, friendship survives.

Summary: Not a bad read on a 5-hr plane ride
Review: I would not call this book the most intellectually stimulating, but if you're sitting on a plane for 5 hours, it will keep you preoccupied and you'll probably finish it. The characters are a little shallow, but the story moves quickly enough. I finished it on the plane!

Summary: A fun book to read in the summer-or any season
Review: I received this book this past Christmas. Instantly,I loved it. Since I am a teenager,I can identify with the new feelings Caitlin and Vix experience(first love, adoelescent angst, etc.)I also liked that I was able to listen to the other characters' perspectives. However, most of them seemed to have no depth. We never find out why Caitlin is so bratty and cruel to Vix,or why Vix married who she did(I won't give it away). Also, the author substituted sex for plot. Sure,it may add to the story, but is it all that the characters think about? Do we really need to know that Gus slept with another man's wife or that Vix gets turned on whenever she smells peonies? Mrs. Blume seems to have a sex fetish, for she inserts sexual elements into every book she writes. Still, I disagree with those who say that the book is for simpletons or that it has no depth at all. We do learn about the characters' thoughts and feelings. "Summer Sisters" may not reveal the meaning of life, but it does teach lessons about friendships and love. Besides, who says a book needs to be profound in order to be enjoyed? Sometimes,it's a good idea to read a book just because it's entertaining and a light read. Overall, though,I found this book enthralling and pleasurable to read. It has its faults, but almost no book is perfect. So I suggest you buy this book immediately from Amazon.com.

Summary: A must read for every woman
Review: If you have ever had a best friend, then you know the relationship of Vix and Caitlin. This story was, for me, a walk down memory lane to say the very least. It teaches women that it is okay to be sexy, fashionable, needy, funny, and free-spirited. It shows a friendship between women the way it actually happens. Judy Blume does a fine job of portraying a fifteen year relationship between two women like no other I have read before. It was a good read that took so short a time to read that it kept it pleasant, not burdensome. Buy it for your daughter!

Summary: Light reading
Review: This was a quick easy read... it would be great for a plane trip or a day at the beach. I think this book is suitable for teens; the sex is not overly graphic, and it certainly isn't any worse than anything in Deenie or Then Again...Maybe I Won't. I felt that I could relate to Vix on some levels, especially with school & career... I am 24, out of college for two years, trying to establish myself in my career. I could also relate to having a friend like Caitlin. I think we have had a friend like her. I couldn't feel sorry for her though, but I did cry at the end

Summary: No redeaming value
Review: This is the first book that I ever threw in the trash! There's no redeaming value to the story. I wouldn't want anyone (especially young impressional readers) to submit themselves to this mindless garbage. VERY disappointed! Judy, shame on you!

Summary: engaging
Review: I started the book within 10 minutes of buying it- I could not put it down. I grew up with Judy Blume, from Margaret to Forever, and this book lived up to all my expectations. I enjoyed the way Ms. Blume wove real life events into her fiction, from the bombing of a plane over Scotland, to Ted Kennedy, to make us all think of what was going on in our own lives while Vix and Caity were having fun on the Vineyard. It made me think about my first love, my first kiss, all the first of being a teen and becoming a woman. I strongly reccomend that you read this book and send it on to your best friend to read. I did.
