Summary: Nice, easy summer reading
Review: This book is perfect for anyone who wants a quick, easy read . True to Judy Blume style, there's romance, lust and betrayal. But, if you're looking for a true literary work, this one isn't for you.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: An enjoyable read!
Review: This book was exactly what I expected it to be -- a light, enjoyable read, reminding me of my adolescence and, as Vix says in the book, I wouldn't want to go through all that again! It was poignant at times, fun most of the time, and very touching. The only thing I didn't like was that both Vix and Caitlin chose the get-married-and-have-babies thing -- why can't we find more books where women are happy and fulfilled without caving into the sexist notion that women just aren't complete unless they breed children? I really wanted Vix to develop more as a strong, independent woman -- and how great it would have been if either Vix or (especially) Caitlin had just said NO to kids and remained child-free!

Summary: A wonderful book-Judy Blume is realism at its best!
Review: I was unable to put this book down. Like Vix, I also had a friend like Caitlin who up and left our friendship with no warning. Everyone who reads this will be able to relate well to the characters in this story. I truly agree that every person has had a friend like Caitlin at one point or another. I was glad that the ending was left open because it would be great if Blume would write a sequel in order for her readers to find out what happens to all of the characters, especially Vix and Gus, Abby, Lamb, and most of all the daughter whom Caitlin abandons. I would be interested to see if Caitlin really died or if she just disappeared again to escape marrying the Italian man. I related to Vix more than Caitlin. I would recommend this book to anyone. Blume deserves praise for writing such a fantastic story, I was unable to put it down. Blume writes in a realistic fashion, she has always been a realist, which is why so many people are able to relate to her.

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: This book is for every woman who has grown up with a good close friend, it re-kindles those childhood memories, thoughts, and dreams. I couldn't put this book down and I gave it to my mother and my sister.

Summary: Good entertainment
Review: Someone said in an earlier review that there are no answers to why some of us continue friendships with women who break our hearts over and over. God...that is so true. And maybe that is what appealed to me about this story. I have a friendship like that and I always worry that people think I am crazy for staying with it. But now I know that there must be millions of women who really do understand that sometimes there are bonds that can't be broken for any reason.

I had bought the hardcover long before the paperback came out, but waited to read it until I was vacationing on Martha's Vineyard last week. I liked reading about the island while I was there, and I'd forgotten how sex ridden Blume's adult books are. Definitely a good beach read!

I would recommend the paperback, especially since it is so inexpensive. Don't expect any fabulous literature, but do expect to be sucked into the friendship of Vix and Caitlin, and do expect to want to go to Martha's Vineyard!

Summary: Great quick read
Review: I really enjoyed this book. Yes, it was a quick read, yes the characters were a little shallow and no, it didn't have any real "literary value". However, it was entertaining, and isn't that why we all read??

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: good for 12 year olds
Review: i was obsessed with judy blume's books from the ages of about 10-12, and was curious to see how she was at writing for adults. however, she has not accomplished that with this book. it has shallow, stereotypical characters, minimal plot, and tons of sex scenes which were exciting at age 11, but at 18 are just boring and unnecessary, and sometimes laughable. i gave this book 2 stars because i'm sure i would have loved it 6 years ago... skip it and give it to a younger sister or daughter.

Summary: You'll like all the characters in this fun read...
Review: I loved the tale of the two different, entertwined characters over the years. The pages where an individual character would comment were woven in beautifully and gave insight into all the supporting characters too!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A real page-turner
Review: Like many others I couldn't put this book down! I read many of her books as a preteen, including "Are You There..." so I am very familiar with Judy Blume's writing style. Summer Sisters lived up to my expectations. If you like the movie "Beaches" you will probably like Summer Sisters as well. It made me remember my own childhood best friend and makes me want to call her. I do agree with the others though that some of the minor characters weren't very well developed but I liked how, throughout the book we got to listen to the thoughts of each character. While this book is not perfect it is enjoyable, entertaining reading.

Summary: Trashy, mindless rubbish
Review: Since I had to choose between one and five stars I gave it a one star. It doesn't even deserve that! I would not advise anyone to waste their time reading this book. Many of the characters never evolved in my mind. Even the main characters were not believable. There has got to more than just self gratifacation in most people's lives. I could never imagine why the two main characters even liked each other. I still can't believe I actually finished it. I thought there may be some fantastic story line. In the end it was all just nothing. Certainly no value as a book for anyone in my opinion. Very disappointing reading.
