Rating: Summary: I thought this to be a great disappointment. Review: Judy Blume was one of my favorite authors growing up. I thought for sure that her adult novels would meet with my approval as well. Unfortunately, I found the constant physicality of her writing somewhat annoying. She has more depth than this as an author - I'm sure of it.
Rating: Summary: Delightful, Summery-Air, Wonderful Read Review: Making me think, this book constantly reminded me of my own relationship with my best friend & how similar we each were to Caitlin & Vix. I actually pictured myself in Caitlin's shoes & Vix being my best friend, as the story played out in my mind. GREAT SUMMER BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Relive your own relationship with your summer sister! Review: Summer Sisters was the first official "read" for this off-for-the-summer schoolteacher. What fun, yet sometimes heartbreaking, to flash back to personal experiences while reading about the relationship between Vix and Caitlyn. This book will remind everyone of their summer sisters. The high standards for the rest of my vacation books has been set!
Rating: Summary: A page turner, but disappointing Review: My mother discouraged me from reading Judy Blume books when I was a pre-teen, she said they were too trashy. I now understand why-Summer Sisters proclaimed itself shallow, mindless, and raunchy. Still, it was awfully hard to put down! Having read my share of romance novels, I'd say that Blume's new work reads along the same lines. I found myself getting annoyed at all of the characters. Call me a romantic, but try to give us a little hope about life, Judy!
Rating: Summary: True to Judy Blume's style, A Book For Any "Best Friends" Review: I have observed several women reading this book. As I read it, women asked me about it saying that they had seen the title and had fond memories of reading Judy Blume's books as young girls. I loved Ms. Blume's books as a young adolescent(Are You There God...), a teenager, and an adult (Wifey). From the minute I started "Summer Sisters" I could not put it down! I read it in less than four days! Ms. Blume's style is familiar; yet the use of descriptions of each character's feelings and thoughts interspersed between the third person narrative was creative, though sometimes a bit confusing. Readers of this book will identify with several of the characters, I am sure. I loved this book! And I was sad when it was over. Ms. Blume, I am waiting for your next novel!
Rating: Summary: A quick, predictable read Review: If you'd like to read a story where you simply watch two not-so-exciting lives click by, this is the book for you! As for me I'm going to go reread "Are You There God..." and see who has changed more in the last 20 years- me or Judy Blume!
Rating: Summary: What a tremendous waste of time! Review: I was surprised and very disappointed that Judy Blume would write such a trashy novel. Her books for kids are so sensitive and heartfelt but "Summer Sisters" was utter garbage. The characters were unsympathetic or pathetic or both. Caitlin, especially, was just too self-indulgent to be anything but despicable. It was impossible to relate to or care about Vix or Caitlin. On a positive note, I did find that having the various characters jump in and out with one-page thoughts on events that had just taken place a very interesting way to give a new perspective to the scene. All in all, though, reading "Summer Sisters" was a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Judy Blume- Adult Fiction Review: What a great book. I read it in 2 days. I grew up reading Judy Blume and was excited to see this book on the shelves for adult readers. It brings me back to my childhood, reading all of her books. I love this book. I am telling all of my friends to read it, my fiancee read it!
Rating: Summary: True Realities of Growing Up Review: Judy does it once again, this book was excellent. A easy read but an excellent rendition of what growing up is all about. I would recommend it to anyone looking to relax and enjoy a great story.
Rating: Summary: I expected more from this author Review: This was one of those books I kept reading thinking it had to get better, but it failed to do so. I could find little in the two main characters to relate or to care about.
