Rating: Summary: wonderful, enlightening, every woman can relate Review: This novel reminded me of days spent on the Jersey shore. It helped me rediscover and understand aspects of being a woman I had long forgotten. A great read for young and older women alike.
Rating: Summary: This book was pointless. Review: I could find nothing of particular interest in the characters or plot of this novel. Page after page of childish, empty actions by childish, empty people. Sex seemed to be the only motivation for any of the characters. The main character might have had some depth, but it was never developed to any extent. I don't even want to lend this book to anyone - why should they bother to read it? I wish I hadn't.
Rating: Summary: Great Summer Reading Review: This is for all women who can remember their one "wild friend" from high school. Blume brings out the insecurities of the quiet one and show the reader that everyone goes thru the same feelings at one point in their lives or another.
Rating: Summary: Better parts than whole Review: I found the story of Caitlin and Vix's friendship mesmerizing. Unlike some other readers, I admire Blume's bravery in writing about their discovery of the Power and their early sexual experimentation with each other, because it's not uncommon in real life. Blume's writing style is always fresh and reads quickly, almost like liquid.I also enjoyed the way she structured the book, giving other characters a voice and helping the reader to gain important perspectives that Vix wouldn't have been able to articulate (though the one perspective she excludes is Caitlin's). On the other hand, I don't think that her attempt at grouping eras with the names of different songs to be very successful. The only song that carries any real sentimental resonance throughout the book is "Dancing Queen."
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I think this book is great! It gives a great dipiction of what growing up is all about. The nervousness, anxiety and general helplessness that Vix feels is exactly how a young teenage girl trying to fit in can feel. I think Judy Blume has taken her knowledge from her years of "teenage books" and done a great job with "Summer Sister"!
Rating: Summary: fantastic book Review: this book was very well written. i literally read it in one day and did not want it to end. i think that some of the material is inappropriate for young readers and they wouldn't even get the emotions behind a majority of the book. i thoroughly enjoyed this book
Rating: Summary: Has Judy Blume evolved past adolescense? Review: I wouldn't refer to myself as a person who gets embarrassed reading about sex, but I have never felt so uncomfortable reading about two twelve year old girls discovering their "power." Unfortunately, Judy Blume hasn't figured out which audience she is writing for. Instead of writing from the perspective of an adult looking back at themselves at an earlier age - she wrote a trashy novel for preteens and teens.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK FROM START TO FINISH Review: I ALWAYS LOVED READING JUDY BLUME BOOKS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND DIDN'T THINK THAT SHE COULD DO BETTER THAN "HELLO GOD, ITS ME MARGARET" BUT I WAS WRONG. "SUMMER SISTERS" WAS GREAT TO PUT IT MILDLY. I THINK THE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN VIX AND CAITLIN IS LIKE A MOST MODERN DAY FRENDSHIPS IN TODAY'S SOCIETY. I MYSELF HAVE FRIENDS THAT REMIND ME OF THOSE TWO THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY SCARY. IT FELT LIKE JDUY BLUME WAS RIGHT THERE TAKING NOTES ON THEM. I RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK TO MY FRIENDS BECAUSE IT WAS JUST THE GREATEST
Rating: Summary: This book is very enjoyable! Review: This was an awesome book. I don't like reading very much but I loved this book. I really got into the lives of Vix and Caitlin. I wanted the book to keep going. I didn't want it to end. I related to the characters and loved them. This is an overall awesome book!
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Ever Red! Review: Summer Sisters is a fantastic book that captures the life and friendship of Vix and Caitlain. Although the ending is a little sad, this is a "can't put down" book! Judy Blume is great!
