Rating: Summary: I remember now why i read fudge Review: brings back memories, of her writings. indeed, it was an excellent summer reading, but i personally felt it could do with more details to tread the story through. melodramatic perhaps?
Rating: Summary: fun, frivolous reading Review: I enjoyed this book, although it did cross my mind that for the most part the only people that would enjoy reading about the sex lives of 14 year olds are other 14 year olds and I don't feel it's a suitable book for young teens. On the other hand it reminded me of my own youth and my very best childhood friend. I hadn't read a Judy Blume book since I was about 11 years old, and I must admit it was enjoyable to return to her world!
Rating: Summary: Shallow characters in a cliche situation Review: I was disappointed in this book, the first adult book I have read by Blume whose children's books I thought were great. The two main characters seemed to be sterotypes of the rich and poor girl. No attention was given to the complexities of these roles. In particular, I think Caitlin was overlooked. Is a rich girl only superficial? Does she get no credit for taking a job cleaning toilets in order to keep her friend company? These summer jobs were, to me, a particularly jarring note. I am not familiar with the Vineyard but since when do trust fund kids take summer jobs with cleaning services? Didn't this raise eyebrows with the family? Was it courageous? What did Caitlin think? The reader will never know what she thought since Blume doesn't tell us or seem interested. I suspected Blume had no idea what the inner life of a rich kid was like and assumed it wasn't worth considering. I would not recommend this book to a friend.
Rating: Summary: A good story, but too jumpy. Review: Summer Sisters, by Judy Blume, is a great story about a friendship that lasts for twenty years. The author uses valuable historical facts from the seventies, eighties, and early nineties, adding a nice touch to the book. However, it skips to fast from event to event in some places in the novel. The ending was very surprising, but some things were very predictable leading up to the ending. What a sad but wonderful story. The events surrounding puberty and other life altering events is wonderful throughout the book. Between chapters, the author added insight to characters' thoughts. It was very easy to read, but I wish the chapters flowed more.
Rating: Summary: Disappointingly shallow Review: Compared to the memorable female characters in recent great novels like "Mother of Pearl" or "The Triumph and the Glory", Blume's creations in "Summer Sisters" suffered from lack of depth, they seemed very one-dimensional. I love many of Blume's books, but this one didn't do much for me. I'm looking forward to her next one in the hope that she will return to form.
Rating: Summary: A heart wrenching book that makes you laugh and cry. Super! Review: This book was definantly a page turner! A book about the love of two best friends, and the ups and downs they surpass throughout their friendship. As the girls are young, we get to go on a journey with them as they experience their first kiss, first love and summer flings right up to their acceptance into college, marriage and so forth. We grow up along with the two characters and feel so connected with them by time I finished the book I missed the girls deeply! You will love this story because it will remind you of yourself while you were young. I highly recommend this story to any female who loves a fun summer reading! Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: took me back in time Review: I just finished this book and it only took me two days. I found myself lost in the lives of Vix and her summer sister. I'm 31, so I remember much about the refrences made in this book to the 70's and 80's. I would recomend this book to anyone under the age of 35 to read, but it's much too "young" for some people to read. It will bring back memories, to those that read it, of what it was like to be young, vulnerable, and innocent. My hats off to Judy Blume for once again capturing the feelings of adolesence.
Rating: Summary: Loved the book, love the author Review: As a teen I read Judy Blume and I was thrilled when she targeted adult readers. Summer Sisters was fantastic and I can't wait to see what's next!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down!!! Review: This book was addictive. I read it from beginning to end without putting it down. I laughed, cried, and felt as if the characters were real. amazing
Rating: Summary: FABULOUS, WONDERFUL, AWESOME Review: This novel was exciting and thorough. I greatly enjoyed the well-developed characters and the energetic plot. The girls' relationship was so real and they were easy to relate to, even if you've never had that best friend. I highly recommend this novel. THANK YOU Judy Blume for a wonderful adult book.
