Rating: Summary: This book made me realize that I myself had a Summer Sister! Review: This was one of those books that you will want to never stop reading! You get involved in Vix and Caitlin's lives and you want them to live next door so that you can be apart of their wonderful but also depressing lives! I recommend that Best Friends read this book just to find out is you have a Summer Sister!
Rating: Summary: A good read until the end. Review: I remember reading Judy Blume as a kid so I was excited to hear she had a book out for adults. Although, I can see how some people would be disappointed with her "adult" writing style I felt the writing was appropriate considering much of the book is about two girls growing up from their teens to mid-twenties. The ending however, was quite disappointing. The author kept me interested for 90% of the book but the ending seemed to come out of nowhere. It was as if she had a deadline to meet and couldn't think of an appropriate ending so she threw in a few twists in an attempt to not be predictable. Instead, her ending was rushed and underdeveloped. It didn't seem to flow with the rest of the book. All in all it was a book with much promise but left much to be desired in the end.
Rating: Summary: A great summer read! Review: At first I thought this book was going to be too "fluffy" and without substance. Even though it is an easy and light read, it eventually gets you in the heart. For me, it brought a lot of old memories to the surface about my best friend during my adolesence. It made me sad that we didn't keep in touch.
Rating: Summary: It was a fast and a good read! Review: This book was good. I started and finished it all in one day beacuse I couldn't put it down. I think that it was written more for the younger generation. I am 20 and loved it, but I am not sure how someone who was older would like it. I love Blume's books and have read most of them. This book had good characters and a steady story line. The plot was also good. I couldn't wait to get to the end and figure out what was going to happen. If you want to read a book with characters you can relate to, read this book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Heartwarming Story Review: I absolutly loved this book. It brought me back to the days of 'are you there God, it's me Margeret'! I love Judy Blumes writing style and I am so glad she has started writing adult novels. Her Discriptions of the summers Catlin and Vix spent together and how their relationship grew really hit home with me. This book made me laugh and cry and I am not one to cry! I am so impressed by this book I bought it in hardcover just to have a nice copy for my Library (which consist of a book shelf in the corner of my apartment!) Two thumbs up I recomend this book to anyone who has had a best friend!
Rating: Summary: Trash reading! Review: I was embarrassed tp be seen reading this book. Cat has to be one of the dumbest, masochistic characters ever invented. She lets her best friend use her repeatedly and comes back for more, all the while waxing euphoric over what a great friendship they enjoy. I don't get it.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining! Review: This was a great read! I couldn't put it down. Yes, a little hokey on the ending, but I loved it just the same, takes me back to reading Blume in the closet of my baptist school!!
Rating: Summary: Great book that I couldn't put down Review: I thought this was a great book! It was very light and easy to read. I didn't take a lot of thinking & concentration. If you're looking to be challanged, or are easily offended, look elsewhere. Judy Blume lived up to every expectataion I had. This book was everything I hoped it would be. Not only could I relate to the betrayal of a friend, but also to having that one friend that every six months or so you talk to & feel like there hasn't been a day go by that you haven't talked to them.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic, couldn't put it down. Review: You are pulled into the character's lives and feel yourself raising and falling with each triumph and disappointment. This is the first Blume adult novel I have read and I am hungry for the next!
Rating: Summary: Hey - Give Blume a Break! Review: I'm a college graduate with a degree in English and history and I found this book to be very entertaining. It's no Hemmingway or Flaubert, (how many are these days?) but it is certainly a book that deserved to make the best seller list. I don't think the characters are flat - I found myself becoming very close to Vix. When I finish a book and feel like I have just ended a friendship, I know the characters are well done. Blume is a master at adolescent literature, I always loved her books. Did this book remind me of the way I felt when I read her books as a teenager? Yes. Maybe that's why I liked it. It made me feel young again. If you never read Blume as a teen, then you may not like this book. If you read Blume as a teen and adored it, you will adore this book too. To each their own!
