Rating: Summary: You will love it or hate it. Review: I loved this book! It was a fast read, and very intriguing. I was a little uncomfortable with the ending, I felt it left a door open for a sequel, or it just wasn't finished. I would not recommend this book to my pre-teen or my teenager. I would not condone some of Vix's and Caitlin's sexual behavior. By my letting my child read it would send them the wrong message
Rating: Summary: a wondeful book for all best friends to read and share Review: i absolutely loved judy blooms summer sisters it was a wonderful story of how friends shape and effect each others lives. it was an open and honest look into how women relate and truely share with their closest firends. it shows how who we chose for friends impacts our live for ever.
Rating: Summary: Book due in 2 weeks & Judy forgot she promised to write it. Review: Sorry, Judy, stick with what you know. A six hour read with at least that many unnecessary characters. Most notably, Dinah Renko. (Sucks and chews her hair???) Next in line would be D'Nisha. Even Trisha was a stretch. All I could think of when Lamb was in the picture was "Mick Fleetwood". When I finished the book I kept turning pages thinking there was more. Vix didn't need closure for her break-up with Bru; I need it for reading this book.
Rating: Summary: File this with "Bridges of Madision County" Review: I chose this book for our bookclub based on my fond memories of Judy Blume and found it incredibly disappointing. The writing was irritatingly simplistic, the friendship made no sense to me and I could not believe the sudden marriage. WHAT?The one thing I did enjoy was remembering the thrill of my own "backseat of the car" escapades. More disillusioning to me than the book itself is that so many of my female peers rave about it. I put it in the same category of Bridges of Madison County which was also horribly written, stupid and much loved by otherwise sharp women.
Rating: Summary: The biggest waste of my time of any book I have ever read Review: I love to read. In my entire life I can't recall reading a book where my I would really like to get a refund, not on the price of the book, but on my time. The story was shallow, the multitude of characters discombobulated, characters with tiny roles would return to the story for no reason. I could have been equally entertained by reading 14 names of strangers with their date of birth, graduation, marriage, divorce, etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
Rating: Summary: Brings back magical summer memories Review: I love this book! I was born & raised in New York and spent many summers on the Cape, Marthas Vineyard & Block Island. This book brought back so many wonderful memories of that most special and treasured time of my life. As a 30 year old, I too grew up around the time Vix & Caitlin did. I was amazed at how a book could capture so well what growing up in the late seventies & early eighties was like. Although my life was hardly comparable to Vix & Caitlin's, I could really identify with the emotions that this book captured so well. I once again was transported back to that idyllic time when life seemed so simple and full of promise. A time of discovery filled with friendship, first love and the summer seemed endless. Judy Blume has been a favorite author of mine since my childhood days & this book so captures what drew me to her books in the first place. I am so grateful that she has followed us into adulthood & recaptured those magical days. I cried a lot during this book for the lost friendship of my "summer sister" but I also smiled as all those happy memories flooded back. I highly recommend this book. Vix & Caitlin lived in my heart long after I finsihed the book. I laughed, I cried but most of all I remembered.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK! 5+++++ stars Review: I could not put this book down. I actually caught myself reaching for it while I was stopped at traffic lights. I loved the way you saw into each character's thoughts and this way getting to know them better. I read Judy Blume growing up now I can enjoy her as an adult. I loved it, what more can I say?
Rating: Summary: For anyone who has ever had a best friend..... Review: With this novel, Judy Blume has successfully re-constructed the best & worst of friendship and growing up. If you don't see shades of your own friendships here, I would be very surprised. Enjoyable, heart-breaking, and funny all at once, Summer Sisters is well worth the time.
Rating: Summary: Great book! I really enjoyed this one! Review: This story was great...it brought me back to memories with college friends.
Rating: Summary: Summer Sisters has spoken to me like no other novel. Review: Summer Sisters is the best book I have read in years. It captured my attention and held it througout the novel. I was able to escape reality and enter the characters' interwoven lives. Judy Blume writes honestly about events and feelings many of us have often felt. The characters are real, not just letters on a page. I laughed with them, cried with them, and grew angry with them. Judy Blume has written a wonderful book that has touched my life in a way that no other book has.
