Rating: Summary: Summers Sisters...A Marvelous Read! Review: I truly enjoyed the novel by Judy Blume who was a treasured author in my youth. She is a gifted writer who makes capivated what summers on the vineyard and sisterhood is all about! I enjoyed the book tremendously and I love JUDY BLUME! Thanks for the memories!
Rating: Summary: A touching story of childhood friendship. Review: A well written, lovely, story which follows 2 young girls from early adolescence to their 30's. I found the images of the yearly summer visits to the vinevard very nostalgic and warm. I found much in the book to which i can relate as I am 14
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent novel for mature readers. Review: I grew up reading Judy Blume and was thrilled when I saw this novel at the Hong Kong Airport. I read it during my 2 hour flight back to Taiwan. Blume captures emotions and characters so well, I felt like a teenager again. It is, however, an adult novel about growing up, betrayal by a friend and the difference between making love and sex.I cannot believe the review written by the 13 year old whose mother allowed her to read the book. It's bad enough there are so many teenagers having sex before they are old enough to vote, I think any decent parent should censor what children read. Besies, what does a 13-year-old know about true "love"!
Rating: Summary: The most entertaining book i've read! Review: At first, my mom was trying to get me to read Summer Sisters. I am only 13 and most likely won't even touch any of the books she reads. One day, I got bored, so I picked up the book and started reading. Normally, i'm not that great of a reading fan, so my first thought was that this book would go by extremely slow. I was actually very amazed because before i knew it, i was already zooming through this book. Sometimes i would catch myself at 11:00 pm reading...that is how much i enjoyed the book. Not only were their sex lives good, but the whole deal about friendship, trust, heart breakers and backstabbers was really interesting. I'm definitly not a mother, or even very old, but reading this book made me think about how much more it could really mean to me if I were a mom watching my kids grow up . This story is fun and exciting and i even suggested it to all of my girl friends and my fav. English and drama teacher, Mrs. Reicer! I hope who ever reads Summer Sister's has tons of fun and really enjoys it. Okay, i'm rambling and probably none of the stuff i just said will make sense, but anyways, this book is coo!
Rating: Summary: Blume does it again! Review: I've been a major fan of Judy Blume for years, ever since I read "Superfudge" (gosh, that was a long time ago!). I was very much pleased with her latest work, aimed at the adult level. It just goes to show that she is still one of the most versatile authors around. The characters of this book are just so... real. I really identified with Vix. Her at age fourteen could have been me, unsure but solid. Caitlin, by contrast, reminds me a lot of one of my friends, so confident and sophisticated and yet so vulnerable. The minor characters were extremely well done, as well, and the background issues in family and other matters really drew me in. Abby was one of my favorites; I could really understand who she must feel, watching her children and children's friends grow up and go off where she couldn't really watch over them- having to let go. Of course, the front issues of Vix and Caitlin's friendship is the real attraction. Blume's lucid writing style really played up the tale of love and heartbreak, promises and betrayal. The result was a heart-wrenching journey through two turbulent decades of well-worn friendship, and its a heckuva ride. I actually cried at the end. I was glad that everything didn't wrap up neatly. There were lots of loose ends that weren't tied, and that's the way it should be. Life isn't always perfect. I recommend this book to everyone, with the exception of children under twelve or so. I'm fourteen, and I could handle most of the sex scenes, but younger kids probably wouldn't need so many... details, shall we say? A great mother-daughter book; I might share it with my mom sometime. Definitely buy this book!
Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: What an exciting book. The characters come to life on the page. I couldn't put the book down! I love how all of the character's perspectives were given throughout the story. I would highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: A totally immersing story;the kind of book youcannotputdown! Review: Judy Blume is just so easy to read, and Summer Sisters is no exception! This book moves so quickly, and is filled with such realistic dialogue, I believe most people will have a hard time putting it down! The book is about two friends, one beautiful, wild, and outgoing; the other, reserved, conservative, and plain in comparison, who become best friends one summer, and whose lives, forever after, become intertwined. It is a great "coming of age" story - filled with emotions and SEX, SEX, SEX! Thoroughly entertaining, yet haunting; I found myself becoming totally immersed in these people's lives! The one problem? I was so disappointed when I finished the book! (And yes - I also believe the book would make a sensational movie; utilizing both a younger and more mature set of actresses, to play the parts of Vix and Caitlin)!
Rating: Summary: This book was intresting and thought u lessons. Review: i think the book was a good book about getting along and learning things together. It is about growing up together and knowing what good friends are for. The story takes place one summer. They girls spent the whole summer together and then they were called the summer sisters. Where the book gets it name. The girls went to the beach and have fun with boys. When i read this book it reminded me od my best friend and I. In the book there were two friends named Victoria and Maria. They were best friends, they did everything together. They did all the friend things and even got in fights. But that is what all best friends do. During the book they over came some things. Like the boy they like or just the little things. Well i would rate this book a 5 star becaue it is life learning and has a good meaning to it. i would reccomended this to anyone.
