Summary: Summer Sisters
Review: Any woman who has had a best friend will enjoy this story of two girls from different worlds who become best friends. The shared laughter, heartbreaks and other problems of growing up are all there for the reader to experience all over again. This book is a quick read that will take you back to your own teenage years and the struggle to become a woman that we all must go through. Ms. Blume has a knack for bringing back memories both good and bad. Read this book and enjoy the relationship between Vix and Caity. These two will surprise you.

Summary: Loved this book...
Review: I started reading Blume's books when I was 12 years old, starting with the Fudge series. I just bought this book last week and started reading it at 1 am this morning, and finished it at 6 am. I was captivated by how alive her characters were and how much it reminded me of myself and my best girlfriend from childhood. This book made me laugh and cry. In fact, I emailed my childhood friend and told her I would send her a copy. I highly recommend it. Just goes to show that Blume still has it!

Summary: A real page turner
Review: Being as that I do not especially enjoy reading, this book was probably the first book I've read for pleasure in about a year. I am only 14 so I often have to read books assigned to me. On a recent vacation I took a risk and decided to start reading Summer Sisters, recomended to me by my best friend. While reading this book I couldn't stop my mind from trying to think of me as one of the charectors and my best friend as the other. This book left me laughing and crying at the same time. Now, two weeks later I still cant go a day without remembering the dynamic charactors, Vix and Caitlin. Judy Blume has certaintly done it again, another easy, yet exciting read. Definatly good for teenagers.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I could not wait to read this book because I absolutely loved and was captivated by July Blume's young adult novels when I was younger. But I'm sorry to have to say that I was nothing but greatly disappointed with this Judy Blume adult novel. For the first time, I was unable to relate to or comprehend any of the characters and was disappointed with such a poor storylines given to them.

Blume fails to develop the characters with any real depth or personality, other than to develop them sexually. She also fails to develop personal storylines in this novel that are realistic or that keep your attention. It's hard to believe that the two main characters would be friends or remain friends.

If you are looking for a book about real friendship, don't buy this book. If you are looking for a book about two females having sex with each other as teens, then with a bunch of guys, and eventually with each other's boyfriend, then buy this book.

Summary: Recommended!
Review: I picked this book up in the first place because I used to be a real fan of Judy Blume's when I was young. It did not disappoint me in the least. I really liked it and I hope it becomes a movie one day. My friend thought it was great too.

Summary: MISLEADING STORY DESCRIPTION!
Review: I was looking forward to reading a novel by the critically acclaimed author. But the story description is misleading. If want a book about friendships look else where. If you want to hear about little girls getting it on with each other then this is the book for you. I have lost all respect for Judy Blume.

Summary: Disappointing from a talented author
Review: I am a Judy Blume child, growing up on "Are you There God? It's me Margaret" and just about every single other book she has ever written. That said, I was brutally disappointed in "Summer Sisters". The female characters lacked dimension in a big way. What a disappointment coming from such a fabulous voice for girls and women. I love how Judy Blume usually shows that women are sexual beings, but that seems to consume too much of the characters' identity in this novel. I really didn't find myself having empathy for either "sister", especially sad rich girl Caitlin. The last third of the book read like a bad (and predictable) episode of Melrose Place. Bummer, sister!

Summary: VERY GOOD BOOK
Review: I didn't really think of Judy Blume as an adult book writer, but she did superb on this book. I read it all in one sitting. This is one of those all time classics. I loved the story it was just amazing! She should keep up the good work and write more like this :)

Summary: Best Book
Review: This is the best book I've read in a long time! I could not put it down. Within a few hours I was done! I recommend this book to everyone, especially teenagers like myself! You'll love it!

Summary: Thumbs down
Review: I recently picked up my copy of Summer Sisters and thought, I really should give this another go. So I read it again, hoping that my first opinion would change and I would have all the positive feelings that the other readers have had here. I tried really hard, I loved Judy Blume when I was young and have always admired her sense of humour and her ability to create "real characters." Summer Sisters starts off really well with the girls meeting and forming a solid friendship but sadly begins to become silly, especially in the last third of the book when the betrayals of Vix and Caitlin become evident. If you need a book to fill in the hours on a long flight or just something that doesn't take much concentration then this is a good book I guess. For once it would be nice to see Blume write a novel for adults that doesn't revolve around sex, other authors manage it and if they do include it, they use more taste than she does.
