Summary: As Real As It Gets
Review: As a teen i really enjoyed reading Summer Sisters, and would highly recommend it to anyone. It has become one of my favorite books because of the style it is written in. Through out the story there were added pages strictly for certain characters that described what was going on in their minds durring the situation that was taking place. I really liked this because it gave a better insight to what that character was really like. I also liked how the tone of the story was really straight foward, and Blume didn't hold anything back. When reading the book it was almost like someone was telling the story in an everday conversation manner, and I liked this because sometimes you need a break from the normal novel readings. Don't get me wrong, I also do enjoy reading books with a more advance language, but Summer Sisters' realism kept me interested and I couldn't put the book down!

Summary: Summer Sisters
Review: I've always loved Judy Blume. I read "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" about 36 times before I reached 6th grade! And I loved all the others--"Starring Sally J. Freidman as Herself", "Otherwise Known As Sheila The Great","Freckle Juice" and the "Fudge" series. So I was, of course, very pleased to read "Summer Sisters" which I thought was wonderful. Of course, I read it in a day and was sorry when it was over. I love how Judy Blume drew out the complexities of a friendship and how it is nearly destroyed by Caitlin's selfishness. The writing made the read fast and enjoyable and I wasn't nauseated by any cliches. The descriptions in the book made me feel like I was there, experiencing the things the girls did. This book is like a vacation in itself.

Review: I love this book so much. I have a best friend like Vix and our relationship is like theirs. I have read Summer Sisters the past three summers and I plan to read this summer also. What a classic. Thanks Judy!

Review: a waste of time. a silly boring book. i found it easy to skip most of the second half and still understand the ending, which was no surprise.

Summary: This is not your daughter's Judy Blume
Review: I was hesitant to try this book because I'm not still the 13 year old who LOVED Are you There God, it's Me, Margaret? But I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters, how easily I was transported from scene to scene. It's a story of friendship, and the struggles two girls go through to stay Summer Sisters.

Summary: A good vacation read!
Review: Take this one on the plane. It's quick and easy to read. Blume creates real characters that probably will mirror people you have met in real life. In particular, I enjoyed this book because the ages of the characters matched my own coming-of-age years. Blume's characters, complete with all their flaws, are genuine and likable.

On the downside, this book's plot is preditable. It reminded me of watching a TV series (albeit, a steamy one).

Enjoy this book at the beach or on the plane. If you keep your expectations low, Summer Sisters is a good way to kill a few hours.

Summary: Judy strikes again!
Review: I hadn't picked up a Judy Blume book since I was a young teenager. It 's good to have her back and aiming at the adult community.

This was one of the best and fastest read books I had on vacation with me last year and I truly hated to see it end. The characters were real and funny and you could absolutely put yourself in their places. I have recommended it to all the females in my circle of family and friends. I was even asked by the clerk in our local book store if she should read it! My answer was an emphathic yes!

Summary: Confused? This should help!
Review: First, let me start off by stating that I am 31 years old, and have read Blume's books since I was 10. I loved her books as a young adult, but I was moderately dissappointed by her latest effort. After reading several of the reviews on this book, I felt compelled to write my own review.

First, for those of you who think this book is for teenagers, it is NOT. I would not want my child under the age of 18 to pick up this book. I think people are confusing the style in which Blume started writing this book. She started writing this book when the characters were in middle school, so she wrote as a middle schooler would think and "got into their minds," so to speak. How boring it would be if she wrote about these girls' escapades from an adult point of view! Notice that as the girls got older, the writing style got a bit older as well.

Second, for those of you who couldn't believe the ending, how could you not see what was coming, in terms of Caitlin's life? I won't give it away, but Caitlin was very disturbed. Notice how we never got into her mind, like we did with seperate chapters for the other characters? She spoke of death and giving up a lot toward the end of the book. She was headed for trouble.

As for my own opinion on the book, it was mediocre at best. I knew what I was getting when I got the book. I knew that it would contain a lot of sex, some really odd situations, and would be written in a breezy, conversational manner. But I was dissappointed, because Blume pulled out a lot of her old, tired situations she has used in many of her other books: you can almost always count on a fallen Catholic as a character, a nice Jew, someone who isn't sure if they belive in God at all, and a monologue about who cares what religion someone is. It gets a bit boring after a while.

Also, I was dissappointed that I couldn't identify more with the times Blume placed her characters in. I remember the 70s and 80s well, and just naming her book chapters after popular songs of the moment did nothing to sweep me back to that time. I also found her use of the name Caitlin odd. Parents, not even like Phoebe and Lamb, were unlikely to pick out that name when Caitlin was born in the 60s ... Caitlin was pretty much "discovered" and became popular in the 90s. It existed before then, of course, but it was not typical. Jennifer or a name that refelected nature (like a sexy Sky or Dawn) would have been more appropriate. Every time I saw Caitlin's name, it transported me back to today's times ... not what should happen when you are wrapped up in a book.

As far as the Martha's Vinyard setting, it could have been in any beach town. I grew up on Cape Cod, and the story references left me dissappointed.

This book was an enjoyable read, quick to get through and I have to admit I wanted to see how it ended. I think Blume writes about some pretty weird situations (like the sexual thing between the girls) but it didn't bother me as much as I found them unlikely to happen in the first place.

I'd have given the book 2 1/2 stars if allowed -- not bad, but not great either.

Summary: A journy into unforgetable summer fun
Review: Embark on an incredible journy of unforgetable summer fun with two amazing characters Victoria Lenord and Catlin Somers. Victoria is a shy girl who's world changes forever when Catlin invites her to spend the summer with her at Martha's Vineyard. There the two-girls become more than best friends, they become summer sisters. This is an incredible book that you just can't seem to put down. You feel as if you have become one of the main characters living the plot of the story. It will leave you laughing and crying at the same time. Judy Blume has written many great books, but this is one of her best. If your looking to embark on an incredible journey pick up a copy of Summer Sisters by Judy Blume.
