Rating: Summary: Worth Reading Review: Summer Sisters was a good book, however I wouldn't recommend it to younger girls due to the sexual content, of which I feel was unecessary. I liked this book because it kept my attention and I did not see the ending coming. Its worth a try.
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: I could not put this book down, I loved it. Summer Sisters is a most read. I had a hard time putting this book down and the ending.....AMAZING!!!!
Rating: Summary: I Loved It! Review: From the moment I started Reading "Summer Sisters" it was impossible to put it down. The story of Vix and Caitlin keep me captivated and I was sorry to see it end. Judy Blume was my favorite author when I was younger and I plan to read more of her adult books also. I Highly recommend reading this book.
Rating: Summary: I am all mixed up..... Review: Ok so my title is not very good, but to the task at hand. I read Summer Sisters and from the minute I picked it up I could not put it down. I wante to put it down though. I couldn't stand the whole concept on the book. I thought it focused to much on sex and not enough on a story. I can relate with some of the stories in the book but more than half of them were unbelievable. I was very disappointed in the ending, Judy Blume could have done a lot more with the fate of Caitlin. I read some of the other reviews. Sure I can find a friend who is like Caitlyn to some aspects and I am sure that there are women who just travel around so depressed they don't know what to do. And for the person who said that Vix being of such a mature mind and all should have understood that a beach bum like Bru wasn't worth it well as everyone knows love knows no bounds. WEll I think I have had my say I just needed to get htat out. Thank you
Rating: Summary: It(s) [no good]. Review: There is nothing interesting about this book. The story rambled on endlessly and ultimately went absolutely nowhere; the characters were boring, unlikeable and undeveloped (each character is virtually the exact same person at the beginning of the novel as at the end, even though over 20 years had elapsed - nobody learns from their past, no one evens tries). Plot? Don't bother looking - it's not there. Even the sex scenes, which were plentiful, were tepid. I only completed this idiotic book because I was on a plane and couldn't chuck it out the window. It consumed 3 hours of my life that I'll never get back. Don't let it happen to you.
Rating: Summary: For any woman or girl Review: This is one of my favorite books! I took a two year break from reading, but a friend of mine gave me this, and I adored it. Now, I am a book nerd again! I guess it just took the right story to get me into it ! I gave it to my mom and she loved it as well. It's truly a book for any female. The story is quite simple. It is a coming of age story of two girls. It made me remember my teens, and it was extremely sweet. Please read it!
Rating: Summary: A review of Judy Blume's Summer Sisters Review: Summer Sisters is the story of Victoria and Caitlin. Caitlin is a wildly extravagant girl whose parents are divorced. She spends half of the year on Martha's Vineyard, an Island, with her father Lamb. Each summer Caitlin and Victoria reunite on the Vineyard as summer sister. The girls grow up together. They experience love together and explore life together. It is a story of self-discovery. It shows the growth and development of two very different, young girls. Victoria's life is changed forever when Caitlin chooses her as a friend that first summer. Vix (a nickname given by Caitlin to Victoria) is welcomed into Caitlin's dazzling eccentric world, opening doors to unimaginable privilege. The story begins many years earlier and weaves in Vix's college life and ends with Vix working in New York as a fashion designer. Caitlin calls her out-of-the-blue one day at work and tells her she is going to be married on the vineyard. Vix is hesitant but Caitlin begs her to be her maid of honor. Vix knows that she will go because she wants to know exactly what happened during that last shattering summer. And she wants to know why her best friend-her summer sister---still still has the power to break her heart. Judy Blume does an excellent job portraying each girl and each family. She spends most of her time with Victoria's life and her feelings but through Victoria one gets to see the life of a very troubled young girl, Caitlin. Caitlin spends much of her life alone. But the truth is, Caitlin needs a family. Through Vix, and Caitlin's newfound life, Caitlin finds this family. She also finds love. Unfortunately Caitlin still is not satisfied. This novel is an exceptionally moving story that can leave the reader laughing and crying sometimes at the same time. Judy Blume creates a rich tapestry of characters. Judy Blume takes an interesting point of view on the story. Even though Vix is the main character Blume allows each person to give his or her own points of view of different situations, in the first person. She does this by putting titles at the top of the page like: Tawny, Pheobe, Lamb, or Abby. Beneath these titles that person's point of view is shown through the first person. I liked the way that she did this. In other novels you only get to see the other characters point of view through the main character. This view is tainted. By putting each character in the first person it allows you to see their true character, their true meaning, behind each situation. Other books have done something similar to this and I have found it to be confusing. Judy Blume came up with a clear, concise way to do this view on the story by using the titles. I liked this book because it was interesting at all times. It never felt dragged out or boring. She uses rich language to support her well-developed story line. It seems like Judy Blume still remembers what it is like to be a twelve-year-old girl and the way life really is for these people. It is wonderful to see the two very different girls. She has a great story with a very intriguing take on life. Overall, Judy Blume did a great job with the novel. She allows the reader to get inside the book. The feel like they are actually on the vineyard. You feel and understand the trials and tribulations of Victoria Leonard. You share her joys and excitements, her loves and her hates, as if it were yourself. Judy Blume creates a world of fantasy for each of her readers to escape to called Martha's Vineyard.
Rating: Summary: What a learning experience! Review: This book was so awesome. I recommend it to young adults about 16 and above, adults will love it too. Usually I do not like reading books with peoples problems in it, but this was a good experience. I learned a lot from it, and it opened my eyes a lot on the out side world around me. If you have a problem with being pushed around by someone or feel like you are in the middle, then I suggest reading this book. It will help you a lot. So go check it out!
Rating: Summary: This is a beautifully written book Review: This is definitely one of the best, if not *the* best, books I've ever read. It's so wonderful the way you become emotionally attached to the characters, you feel everything they feel as you read the book. This book reveals truths about life. You will not want to put it down.
Rating: Summary: A Friendly Read Review: Summer Sisters, by Judy Blume, is such a great book. The main focus of the book is friendship, and this book would be a perfect read for anyone who thinks a lot about friendships, or it is a big part of their life. In this book you follow the friendship of two girls starting in their teenage years through their young adult years. Each summer they spend together you see how they find things they like or dislike about one another, and it will make you recall old friendships of your own. I found this to be both a positive and negative reading experience. I suggest that anyone who has had a good, or bad, friendship in the younger part of their life to read this book and look back upon your friendships.
