Summary: Only surface, no depth or insight
Review: My daughter gave me this book to read, tauting it as a good airplane book. My expectations weren't high but I'd read enough Judy Blume previously to know she has the capability of writing a good novel. This is not a good novel. The characters are so shallow that they're merely shadows, ideas of what characteristics a Barbie doll might have. There is 'rich girl with no conscience Barbie', 'smart, poor girl with no personality Barbie', 'Countess Barbie with a drinking problem and an upper class accent', ad nauseum. It was a true disasspointment and a waste of my time.

Summary: Summer Sisters
Review: The book I read was Summer Sisters written by Judy Blume.
It was a good book. I liked the way the two girls formed such a good friendship and made it last even through the hard times. Some parts of the book I did not like, but most of it was good. During the parts in the book where they were at Marhtha's Vineyard, sounded like a very nice place that I would like to visit someday. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about how frienndships can be valuable and survive through almost everything, good and bad.

Summary: Judy, You're Better Than This!
Review: Reviewed June 13, 1998
The cover, two wooden beach chairs in the sand, tells it like it is: a book about two girl friends who spent summers together. It's a corny tale about friendship between girls vs. love between a boy and a girl. If you expect (as I did) more of the biting wit found in the author's 1988 novel Wifey, you'll soon learn that Summer Sisters is not nearly as clever or as good. But it is a book you might take to the beach, to read in your chair in the sand.

Summary: Enjoyable read
Review: I was surprised by how much I liked this book, it was a lot better than I thought it would be. The characters are interesting, the story moves along at a quick pace, the author has a way of making you really care about the people in this book. I was a little disappointed by the ending, but I would still highly recommend this book.

Summary: Summer Sisters
Review: Judy Blume just has this knack for getting it right. She understands what it's like to be an awkward kid growing up and an over-hormoned kid growing up and she takes these two characters from puberty into teenagers into young adolescence to adulthood with the trials and tribulations that go with it. I think any female can relate to some aspect of the story.

Summary: simply right
Review: I can't describe this book much past that it completely captures the emotion of friendship and the drama that seems so incredibly overwhelming.

Summary: Bringing Memories to Life
Review: This book was very enjoyable. Judy Blume can still pull me in at age 29! The last time I read a Blume book, I was probably 15 or 16. 14 years later, she still writes in a way that captures great memories. The characters were brought to life and very realistic. Even if it is a cliche to write about the popular, rich, beautiful girl befriending the quiet, poor girl, I thought Blume did it in a style that made it extremely realistic. This is a quick read that leaves the reader wanting more.

Summary: Great book for teenagers!
Review: I am a 14 year old girl in Augusta, Georgia. For me reading usually isn't the number one thing on my list. But while reading this book I never wanted to stop reading. This book was wonderful! I wish there was a sequel. Even though this book is 400 pages it only took me a week to read it, which would normally take me about a month. This book has taught me alot about growing up and the things you do. That is why I think it is a great book for teenagers to read. I was proud of myself after reading it because it was one of my mom's books. And parents, get your teenage girls to read it, because I feel that I have matured alot since reading it. I hope you and your kids read it. It is great! I didn't want it to end!

Summary: Summer Reading At Its Finest
Review: Escape to the beach and meet Caitlin and Victoria; Martha's Vineyard Summer Sisters. This complicated and tumultuous friendship gives way to event filled summers that will have readers glued to their seats. The friendship that these two young ladies share will put you in a mindset of those summers you spent with your special friend. You'll search your mind to remember your "summer sister," and feelings that you haven't felt in a long time begin to resurface. As usual Ms Blume entertains with a fast paced story that will have you laughing, crying and wondering why the story had to end.
