Summary: An okay read, but not my old Judy
Review: I am a huge Judy Blume fan. Even at age 24, I still re-read "Are you there God..." and others on occasion. I love Judy's books and have always felt a bond with the characters in her books. Maybe that's why I was so disappointed with this book. I just couldn't relate to Vix or Caitlin. I, too, have a best friend/soul mate who I grew up with. But we don't/didn't share the Power and Ang never treated me like Caitlin treated Vix! I just never felt the real bond between these supposed summer sisters... Aside from the characters, the writing just didn't flow naturally, like Judy's words normal do... At times, I felt like I was reading a bad Danielle Steele book. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but still find her old classics to be much more engaging, enlightening, and realistic. I'll stick to Deenie and Margaret - or even Blubber - next time I need a Judy Blume fix.

Summary: Another wonderful Blume book - for adult women!
Review: I, too, am a Judy Blume fan from years ago as a teenager and was excited to read Blume as an 'adult' writer. I was not disappointed. Though shocking at times, this story of the friendship that blossoms between unlikely friends - Caitlin and Victoria - drew me in and held me tight. I loved the honesty and frankness in Blume's writing, especially when talking about the growing and changing in these young women's bodies and minds. I'm sure these are things many young girls have thought about and experimented with, but no other author addresses them so openly. The story continues as these two young girls explore love and sex and relationships apart from each other, yet remaining best friends through it all.

The tragic ending was a surprise but I appreciated the reality of the book, rather than wrapping it up all neat and clean. Victoria deserved true happiness, after being loyal to her first friend for so long, and I'm glad she found it.

Summary: Sisterly Bonding
Review: As the years go by, we learn from our childhood experiences. The environment they grew up in also plays a role in their behavior. As the story goes on, we can see how two different girls share something in common. They swore to be sisters at heart, but aren't there some limits that sisters have to abide by?
I enjoyed reading this book. It kept my interest regarding teen issues. It touched on issues such as peer pressure, self confidence, and family situations.
This story first starts off in 1977 when they were children growing up in New Mexico. They spend their first summer together on Caitlins vineyard on a island. They share experiences with each other learning from both failures as well as sucesses. As they grow older, they become stronger mentally and go on their own ways. Knowing the differenes between them, they still have a link that makes them sisters at heart.
As a teenager, i can look back and reflect on my past experiences . Reading this book reminds me of the morals i have set as a child and have let go as the years flown by. Now i reflect and strenghten those morals that has made me.
I recommend this book to teenagers who need to look at life in a new light. As years go by, we all change and forget the simple joys we know. The simple joys are the joys that help make life more enjoyable.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I thought this was an excellent book, well written and developed. It tells stories that most girls can relate to- adoring the most popular girl in class, falling head over heels for a guy, experiencing family troubles, and eventually ending up exactly where you were meant to be from the start. Judy Blume does a marvelous job of describing how the characters grow physically and emotionally, and she uses great imagery so that you feel you are actually being transported to Martha's Vineyard. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read both times I've read it, and I would highly reccomed it to any girl looking for a great fictional novel with a bit of sex, a bit of mystery, and a lot of friendship!

Summary: Grab a Comforable Chair and a Glass of Wine
Review: I am in my mid-20's, and I had not read a book by Judy Blume since I was in elementary school. While browsing the shelves for some easy summer reading, I came across Summer Sisters, and I was curious.

Judy Blume did not disappoint. I found myself reading until the wee hours of the morning to see what would happen between Vix and Caitlin.

The story is set in the late 70's through the early 90's - perhaps the height of sexual ignorance and exploration for Caitlin and Vix's generation. Younger readers should be warned that the main characters exhibit these attitudes. Consequences of this behavior are noted, but mostly in the lives of the minor characters.

Those who criticize the book for its lack of realism may not have had a "summer sister" of their own. The story explores the complexities surrounding a relationship between two girls as they mature and struggle with adulthood. I saw some of myself in these characters, and I also saw traits of my own "summer sisters" that have come and gone in my life.

The conversations and inner thoughts of the characters have an raw authenticity that is both humorous and heartbreaking. This book is a wonderful summer read.

Summary: I love this book!!!!!
Review: I first read this book five summers ago. One night I picked it up and I didn't put it down until I read the entire thing. I reread this book all the time and recommend it to every girl I know. This book is the book that all my future beach reads must live up to. Read it!

Summary: Summer Sisters -
Review: Pros: Light reading targeted at the adult audience
Cons: Ends too suddenly
The Bottom Line: I commend this book not only for it's real life nature but also for it's incredible descriptions and astonishing imagery.
Recommended: Yes

-----------------------------
The experiences we go through in our younger years evidently change and shape our lives.

This is a story which illustrates the friendship between two girls over a lengthy period. It displays both the downfalls and the happiness experienced by these two appealing and remarkable characters. The saying, "Opposites attract," has never rung a truer note. The two characters come from completely different backgrounds and while the one is confident and lacks no fear, the other is shy and is aware of her surroundings.

You will find yourself laughing accordingly at the jokes shared between them, but will also notice your eyes becoming glazed during various scenes.

Having known Judy Blume for her children's books, I was unaware of the talent she has uncovered by writing adult books. I commend this book not only for it's real life nature but also for it's incredible descriptions and astonishing imagery.

Summary: It was okay, but don't expect greatness.
Review: I was a huge fan of Judy Blume when I was growing up. Now at 26, I recall reading her books with great fondness. I thought that they were appropriately written for adolescents. Summer Sisters is the first adult book I've ready by Judy Blume and was left feeling disappointed. When I was younger, I remember thinking that she knew exactly what it felt like to be that age. Throughout Summer Sisters, I didn't think she knew what it felt like to be an adult. At what point does Vix need to stand up for herself and stop letting Caitlin walk all over her. Vix's character was a doormat. I could not find it in myself to find sympathy for her. Also, I feel like Judy Blume glossed over the story. There was so much that could have been done with the characters. I found them to be terribly flat. Considering how many years this book covered, I did not feel as if there was more that one or two characteristics per person in the book. While the book was a good read, it had no depth.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I read this book in a week. I absolutly loved it. I always thought of Judy Blume as more of a younger teenagers book writer, but this book was not like that at all. I could totally relate to it, and I definetly recommend it!

Summary: I have found my own summer sister
Review: Summer sisters is my all time favorite book. I have fallen in love with it and have just finsihed my fourth time reading it. i also expect reading it many more times. The plot captured me. I saw myself in both Vix and Caitlin throughout their tale. Judy Blume was very creative with this story. I found myself wishing that I were one of them spending summers with my best friend. I then realized that I have the same oppertunity. I myslef also have a summer house where me and my best friend have had many adventures like the two girls did. I recomend this book to all, give it a chance, you will love it.
