Summary: A REAL FIND!
Review: Marianne Curley does a perfect portrayal of teen life with a twist. I love the story because the adventure is extremely creative and the on and off friendship/romance is entertaining yet not love struck. The characters Jarrod and Kate are great because their actions and emotions are just like real life (minus the magic).The book seems to get surprisingly more entertaining near the end because the constant arguing and disbelief stops coming from the character Jarrod. Though I will say this book is not the best book ever, it is a great reader for people who like fantasy, minor romantics, and a story that will take turns and twists you never see coming. While being an entertaining novel it also deals with the ever appearing problem of peer pressure and "fitting in" without getting over obsessive and annoying. Overall, this book is an adventure, a partial romance, and a great way to spend your extra time during the summer.

Review: Marianne Curley's book Old Magic is about a girl, Kate, who has magic powers. She lives with her grandmother, Jillian, alone in the rainforest in Australia. Many people call them weird and witches, but they are teh most caring and honest people ever. Kate meets Jarrod who has his own powers- and even a curse that he is unaware of except for his but is unaware of them.Page 39: "A strange breeze starts to blow, trinkets and wind chimes start dancing erratically. It hits my face and swirls my hair around and it feels sensational. It isn't angry, like before in the lab. This wind is mystical yet tame, and it sings to me. I wish I could share it with Jarrod 'cause he created it. I'm sure of this. And it's such a beaitful wind, swirling around my feet, pushing gently upwards to the ceiling. I get so caught up in it I start to move, with it, trhough it, into it." Marianne Curley's discripting of magic and history is amazing and will leave you wanting more. This is a great book to read, anyone can read it and enjoy it. My older sister and I have totally different styles in reading and we both enjoyed it.

Review: An excellent read. Personally I think it was good enough for her(Marianne Curley) to make a sequel. I am sure an excellent writer such as herself could invent hundreds of reasons to make a sequel. You will definitely enjoy it.

Review: I have read this book about 3 times in the past 2 years. It is one of my favorites because every time it gets better and better.
This sci-fi novel has all the basic elements to keep its reader entertained.
The story begins in a modern-day Austrailian small town called Ashpeak. When Kate Warren, a witch in training, meets Jarrod Thorton, the new geek in town, she is automatically drawn to him a mysterious aura he carries about himself. Kate is convinced that Jarrod has some powerful curse bestowed on him, and Jarrod only goes along with her fanatics because he is fascinated by her beauty.
When things start going downhill in Jarrod's life; he rethinks Kate's theory and travels back to midieval times to defeat the sorcerer who granted the havoc-reeking curse on his family; and along the road somewhere they fall in love. And I would most definately recommend this book to anyone who knows how to enjoy a good book.

Summary: Just don't want it to stop
Review: I have a really really hard time finding books. My bestfriend made me buy a book from the store and I hated it! I began reading Old Magic and just couldn't stop. The book captures adventure from page one and still has the fluff and drama of teenage life. My best friend moved to australa a couple months ago and I emailed her all the words I had learned fom this book. I Loved this book and after I read it in two days begged my dad to let me go get Marianne Curley's othe book The Named.

Review: I'm sorry but while this book is definitely not boring,I have to rate it lowly.Kate is a witch and even though she constantly tried to make us feel sorry for her because she was apparently a white witch and not a black one,this is a girl who performed rituals that involved the sacrifice of goats' blood.Oh,I'm sorry,she didn't actually KILL the goats did she?Not good enough.Such rituals are still tasteless and immoral.

Summary: Exciting and adventurous!!!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It had alot of adventure and of course, magic. I think the best part of this book is when they travel back in time. This part was more exciting than the beginning. In this book Kate is a witch. She lives a pretty ordinary life teenage life. Except that she is "the one" who is always picked on for her strange behavior. Jarrod is the new kid at school. That is how Kate and Jarrod meet. Both of them become friends, but find out that there is a curse on Jarrod's family. Kate's grandmother then helps them to go back in time. Like I said, this is an exciting book. You defenitely have to be into fantasy to enjoy it.

Summary: couldn't put it down!
Review: This book was incredibly well written, especially for a first novel. This rates right up there with Tamora Pierce. The romantic twist was great and I loved the bathtub scene. This book was funny and adventures, but I would not recommend this for kids 10 or under, it did have a few part that would be semi inappropriate.
