Rating: Summary: ... Author...very interesting story. Review: I obtained this book, and i am surprised that i am not even bored with it. I Went on a Review, and i am barely getting to page 30 of "Old Magic" and the story is quite nice. It deals with Magic, and time traveling between two youngsters who are: Kate and Jarrod. I recommend the literature, Marianne Curley is a new person in the scene when it comes to writing teen fantasy...if you like to read, please, read this, the plot will glue you. Final thoughts: The young woman on the cover is quite attractive i should say.Everytime i get the book i then look at the front cover and i am mesmerized by the young woman. These teen fantasy real models and the females on the love romance novels in my opinion have to be some of the most beautiful women i have ever seen in my life. And I am a guy writing this review.
Rating: Summary: Wowzers Review: Kate is living in a small town and going to school, when new boy Jarrod makes a wirlwind of an appearance. From the get-go, you know that they are going to work out, and its just a great story of how Jarrod finds himself in the crowds as Kate leads him. The only problem was how LONG it took Jarrod to accept his Magical abbility. Great story, GREAT read.
Rating: Summary: Review from V-Queen Review: I liked this book, but I didn't LOVE it. It was a cute story and if you are in the market for a cute, hunky guy that has no backbone and then amazingly finds it, then this is the book for you. The style of writing was okay but I thought it lacked a certain apeal. I think the author could have let us know the characters better and made the story flow more evenly. It seemed to rush by too fast.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling Tale of Time-Travel and Romance Review: Kate Warren is instantly mesmerized with the new boy, Jarrod Thornton, when he walks into the classroom. She doesn't know why, but soon finds out. Kate senses something strange and instense about him. Something supernatural, and not of this world. Within a few minutes her intuition is proven correct, as Jarrod, when bullied by one of his new classmates, accidentally conjures up a massive thunderstorm inside the classroom. The problem, is that Jarrod doesn't believe in the paranormal, and thinks Kate is crazy when she explains to him that she believes that there is a curse haunting his family. The only reason why he even puts up with her crazy talk about witchcraft, is because he finds her extremely captivating. But soon he realizes that Kate is right. There is something strange involving his family, and it's up to the both of them to go back in time to fix it. And hopefully, come back in one piece.I am extremely surprised to find out that OLD MAGIC is Curley's first novel. The plot that she has created is intricately woven, and filled with exciting twists and turns on every page. Kate is an extremely likeable character, who's determination sets her apart from many other teenage characters in today's fiction. Jarrod, too, is a likeable character, whom readers will relate to greatly, as he goes through many clumsy, and very embarrassing moments. Containing wonderfully written supernatural happenings and romantic interludes, Curley is sure to become a hit with all readers, whether old or young. Don't miss this book. Erika Sorocco
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest book i've ever read! Review: This book had a great and odd beginning to me. I started to get into the book at the very beginning. The storys characters were having their ups and downs and conflicks and then the book had a drastic change, one that I didn't even see coming! And from that point i was totally blown alway. From begining to end i didn't want to put the book down; i was in my own world. Every time i started to read it, i entered a whole new world it seemed. I forgot where i was! From begining to end it was great! Even now whenever i see the book just lying there, i can remember the whole world that is contained in it!
Rating: Summary: Good but not great Review: I must admit that when I saw the front cover for Old Magic I was intreged and so going on the "Judge a book by its cover" basis I bought it. My first impression of it wasn't steller, I've read better, but the good thing that Marianne Curley has in her writing bag of tricks is getting into a characters head. I was fasinated by Jarrod; finding it intresting to get into the head of a cursed and clumsy teenage boy. The first 30 or so pages were somewhat of a drag but it quickly picked up from there, leading to teenage angst and mideveil lore, and the ending was satisfieing. In the end this was a good over the weekend, nothing better to do read but not much else.
Rating: Summary: Old Magic is the best book ever. Review: The first page I read of 'Old Magic' sucked me in, and I could not stop reading it. After I finished reading it for the first time, I immediately read it again and then yes, I read it again. I just didn't want the book to be over quite yet. 'Old Magic' is the perfect book for a teenager because it involves a teenage romance that is not too adult for their age. I would absolutely recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: God bless friends and birthday presents Review: My best friend and I read the same type of books, so when my birthday rolled around, she bought me this book. She made me promise to let her read it sometime. (Sorry, haven't gotten around to that yet). I looked at the cover, and thought: "this looks interesting." So I picked it up and started reading. Interesting doesn't even begin to describe it. I finished this book within a day, then immediately re-read it. It was better the second time around, and the third, and the fourth... You get it, right? The first thing that caught me was Jarrod's doubt. It's a bit annoying at times, but there's that little voice in the back of my head saying "Don't worry Jarrod, you'll figure it out." Good thing Kate is exeptionally stubborn. I also liked the way the author switched between the characters. It gave you two insights on the same situation, so you're not thinking "what might be (enter random book character here) be thinking about?" I especially liked the time-travel bit to medieval England. I am a self-confessed Celtic/medieval fanatic. This is also where Jarrod finally listens to what Kate's been trying to tell him-after she gets kidnapped. Real helpful, huh? Watching him scare his 'relatives' is awfully fun, though. The fight at the end was a bit cliched, but well written nonetheless. It gets scary there for a minute, with the giant Rhauk-crow and all, but it all comes out okay. (Another well written cliche). Every time I have no new book to read, I go back to this. It's better every time I read it. After I finish with this review I'll probably go read again, just becasuse I've been talking/writing about it. And I'll also have to try to get in touch with my friend. I love this book, but I don't want a monopoly on it!!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good Review: I must admit that I often judge books by its covers, literally and figuratively speaking. If a book's cover doesn't catch my eye, I wouldn't dig more into it. Old Magic was interesting enough so I decided to give it a go. The story itself is light on the witchcraft ways. It doesn't go in-depth to explain spells and what not so those who aren't into the whole scene won't be so freaked or confused. It's main purpose isn't to get people to accept witchcraft ways, but to allow people to see what could be out there. This is done in a way that people will desire. Not that gripping of a story but fun and a good read otherwise. The characters' thoughts get repetitive a few times but it can be easily overlooked. This definitely isn't a light read. The book is over 300 pages long. Quite a good story though. It mixes romance, witchcraft, medieval times, and the problems of today and that of the past. Totally freaky- in a good old magic sort of way.
