Summary: Great Magic Spell
Review: The Amber Spyglass puts a spell on you and makes you want to read more. This fantasy turns into reality and you feel like you are on the adventures that Lyra goes on. You feel the empathy for the daemons and the protective ways they work their magic. This novel shows the magical entracing side of the magic combined with fantasy. This novel is long in length but after you are done with one you will want to keep reading. Some incidents keep you at the edge of your seat wanting more and yearning for the great lessons that Lyra must learn in order to obtain this magical object. Lyra is a great and simple characters who has many characteristics that many people now have and is a great success to be described.

Summary: Couldn't Put It Down!
Review: Wonderful! Mr. Pullman concludes the His Dark Materials Trilogy fantasticly! Though provoking and heart-wrenching, it turned me into an insomniac. Yes, there were some loose ends, but that's why he's writing The Book of Dust, to explain things more clearly. All of the people who are crying "Blasphamy!", it's just like yelling "Burn!" at a witch trial! Get over it, it's just a book. You didn't have to read it! But please notice that you are a minority in this case. A must read and destined to be a classic(if close-minded people don't ban it first)

Summary: could be better...but not by much
Review: I'm not going to go into one of those agonizingly long disscussions about how he was "offending" god and all, I mean it's jsut fiction right? Anyways what I liked about these books was he didn't make everything "happy" or too use a cliche, he didn't sugar coat anything. He wasn't afriad to kill off characters or introduce some darkness. He realized that not every story has a compleatly happy ending.

Summary: GREAT BOOK!!!
Review: This book kept me in suspense the whole time. I would definately recommend reading The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife first, as several referances are made to people/events/places in those books. In this book Lyra and Will start off on an adventure which is said to be impossible, to travel to the World of the Dead. On the way they meet many new people and have many exciting encounters. I would definately recommend this book!

Summary: TOTALLY ROCKS!
Review: This book is really awesome. I stayed up tell 1 each night reading this book because i couldn't put it down. I really recomend this book to people who like a book that makes you think and makes your imagination go wild! You HAVE to read this book because if you don't you are missing out on alot. P.S. You should probably read the first two book first so you can understand this one better. But personally my favorite out of all three was this one.

Summary: Philip Pullman - The Amber Spyglass
Review: Having read the first two books in this series ("Northern Lights" and "The Subtle Knife") I was looking forward to the final book, "The Amber Spyglass". Unfortunately it was not long before it became a disappointment. The first two books were brilliantly inventive and built up the expectations of the reader. You got the impression that you were reading something special and you yearned to find the answers to the questions that the author was posing; what is dust? How does it work? Will god be destroyed? and what will replace him? However, the author never really adresses any of these questions properly. Instead we are led through a story which seems to make less sense the further we go. Philip Pullman cannot bring the story to a fitting conclusion and (without spoiling the story) many aspects of the plot simply don't work. For example, one notable character's traits are completely reversed and many of the loose ends from the first two books are either forgotted about, never tied up or not explained properly. we are left with a book which, to me at any rate, simply does not make sense. The story had engrossed me in "Northern Lights" and "The Subtle Knife" but by the end of "The Amber Spyglass" I was left wondering what the point was and any message that the author was trying to get across descended into sentimental drivel. In conclusion, read it if you have read the previous books but I warn you, you WILL be disappointed!

Summary: not as good or as bad as everyone's been saying
Review: I just purchased all 3 books in the series last week, and so, did not have this huge "lag time" so many people went through, to get to this book. I do agree with the one star critics- the main protaganist of book 1 seemingly falls to the wayside by book 3. However, I disagree that the book loses itself completely, or that it's a direct attack against christianity. Taking cues from the bible, Pullman, I feel, did a good job in coming up with an alternate scenario. And by the end of the book, the Church is not gone, it's still a presence. Heh, I also agree that metratron appears way too gullible to have been in such a position in power, and the 180 turnaround by Lyra's mom also threw me off. However, overall, I agree with the 5 star critics, in that it is truly a superb story. Book one was hard to identify with completely (the omnipresent daemons made it hard to "settle" into the story) but by the end of the book, I was hungirly pulled through the remaining storyline. I too, do not want to give too much away or spoil anyone who's yet to read the series. But I sincerely feel that the good of the series far outweighs all the little quirks and possible missteps of the author: agreed, it's not perfect, but better than average. BTW, I also am a Catholic, and in no way feel that Pullman has "attacked" my religion or my beliefs. As far as I am concerned, it is a great work of fiction- and one of the better stories I've read in some time. Well worth your time-

Review: Pullman is one of the greatest writers i have encountered in my life. When i began reading this series, i was skeptical, but after the first few pages i was captivated. i could not put it down, and continue rereading it. I suggest this book as one of the best books you will ever read.

Summary: Doesn't need another review, but...
Review: I can't help but say how remarkable this book is! As the final volume of the His Dark Materials Trilogy, not only is The Amber Spyglass a great ending, but it also has wonderful theme and suspense. In this book, Lyra and Will continues their adventures between the worlds. They also find out about the so called Otherworld where the dead are. They are joined by a few new characters along the way. Some parts of this book may seem slow, but the surprise ending makes up for it. If you've read The Golden Compass and the Subtle Knife, you MUST read this book! If you haven't, I suggest reading them first before starting the Amber Spyglass. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: I loved this book!!!
Review: I'm a teenage girl and i don't read much, but a friend gave me the 1st in this series to read and I just had to read the rest. This book is completely exciting and I couldn't put it down. This book has totally beautiful parts. I cried for nearly an hour after I finished it. I think that anyone of any age could read this, although younger kids might not understand it. Anyone who hasn't read this yet, you have to read it!!!!
