Summary: What controversy?
Review: Philp Pullman is the absolute master of his art. In The Amber Spyglass, smooth, effortless prose leads us to Lyra and Will's rendevous with fate You should read The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife for the first two books in his 'Dark Materials' trilogy. Also highly recommended, the Sally Lockhart trilogy by the same author.

I won't waste my time repeating what other reviewers have said about Pullman's amazing gift of storytelling and his ability to weave plots and choose words that elicit the response he wants from his readers....

In the Dark Arts trilogy, Pullman has broken new ground, both in genre and in writing skills. Why not review the book for that unquestionable talent? The Amber Spyglass has never prostituted itself as a lesson in morals. It is just a ... good story, told by a master of his art. ...

Leave Pullman be. He is giving pleasure to millions and his books are collecting well-earned credits for their sheer brilliance.

Summary: Excellent (w/ Orson Scott Card influences)
Review: This is the first of Pullman's book that I read in print rather than on tape, and I'd recommend the former for the most engrossing experience. The full cast recordings are excellent.

Review: You'also love SIGHTS by Susanna Vance. I just finished reading both, and there are my two new favorites.

Summary: This book is better than Harry Potter!!
Review: This book is better than Harry Potter. It is about how Lyra and Will go through everything--worlds, seperating from their daemons, Lyra meeting her death and seeing others' deaths, and how they save everything from the ablyss. It is heart breaking in the end, but I must tell you they aren't the ones killed. Lyra goes to Will's Oxford and Mary Malone, you'll met her later, meets "creatures on wheels" or the mulefa, it is a great book and will leave you thinking about it over and over.

Summary: bye-bye Harry Potter!
Review: This book surpasses harry potter by 10,000,000 stars and if you haven't read it you've commited a capital crime. There is no book like it but please do not insult it by forgetting to read the first two(The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife). Pullman shows the characters souls and leaves you weeping your heart out. At first I thought that it was going to suck like all sequels but now it is my favorite book of all time. Pullman is the greatest author in the world and if you like this than read all the rest!

Summary: He should have stopped after two...
Review: It's really a shame that Philip Pullman had to throw in all sorts of bizarre pseudo-religious mumbo jumbo into this book (The new Adam and Eve, the new serpant, assassin priests, etc.). I mean REALLY! The plots of the first two books in the series were extremely well written and engaging. However, this book (what should have been the climax of the two prior ones leading up to it) instead took a wild swerve and became nothing more than a vehicle for Mr. Pullman to vent some wacked out religious views.

Summary: More than a book
Review: This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It is so realistic, I sometimes feel it has really happened, and I want to be part of it. It is so original and new, I have read few books that I have been addicted to like this one. A book you never want to end. The story of Will and Lyra is touching and deep. Pullman writes in a way of his own and expresses everything perfectly. A good end to an amazing trilogy. Definately worth reading.

Summary: The Amber Syglass
Review: I think that this book is one of the most well written books ever. It outshines Harry Potter by far. In my opinion it is the best in this series and ranks higher than Terry Brooks and J. R. R. Tolkien. When Will rescues Lyra from her evil mother, Mrs. Coulter, the Subtle Knife is broken. The two children set out seeking Iorek Byrnson, the armored bear, for help. With the aid of two Gallivesian Spies and a repaired knife, they set out for the world of the dead. Lyra and Will risk everything to free the dead spirits from their prison, and convince the harpies to help them. With the help of the ghosts they use the knife to aid Lord Asriel defeat the Authority, and discover their love of each other. Mrs. Coulter helps Lord asriel defeat the Authority's second in command. In a tragic ending, the true nature of the Knife is discovered and Lyra and Will must part forever, taking only their memories of each other.

Summary: The Best Book I've Ever Read
Review: The Amber Spyglass opened my eyes to what books can actually do. Phillip Pullman did a FABULOUS job closing up the series even if it didn't really have a happy ending. I cried. The book couldn't have been better. I would recommend it to anyone who has read the first two books in the series simply because it wouldn't have as much of an emotional impact if you couldn't understand what the heck was going on. It may speak a little strongly against religious beliefs but if you don't take it seriously, no doubt you will enjoy it as much as I did. Phillip Pullman has a very powerful way of writing and describing when it comes to fantasy. If you can imagine, you'll love this book!
