Rating: Summary: A shattering tale; best in its genre! Review: A breathtaking book with unexpected twists and turn. Philip Pullman has outdone himself this time and it is the best book of the series. It is even more astonishing and extraordinary than the first two. The plot is very original and somewhat twisted. As good as it is this outstanding book may offend some people. Caution: do not read if you are a very religious person (especially Christians)!!!
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing after the excellent preceding books. Review: After reading the two preceding books of the trilogy this book belongs to, I was really excited to read the third, but after just a few pages I was already extremely disappointed with the way the story was going. Apparently the author took this opportunity to rather rashly express his religious ideas, and I found them quite offensive. The book takes an astonishingly evil turn, as demons and devils are made the heros and God himself is, in a rather offensive and disturbing way, made the villian. I must say I was very disappointed with this book. The story that was created in the first two books was very well done and amazing, they were my favorite books. A lot could have been done with this story; it's too bad it had to turn out this way.
Rating: Summary: great book... until the last couple pages Review: I loved the first two books in this trilogy, The Amber Spyglass was going great too, i loved it, until i read the last chapter. Words can't explain my dissapointment at the ending, everything i was anticipating happened, and then went down the toilet when i read the ending. Overall i was dissapointed with this book, though it was very good until the last chapter.
Rating: Summary: What next??? Review: I have just finished reading the third and final book of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. It was by far the best book in the trilogy and the best book I've ever read for that matter. There was only one problem that I could find with it. If the angels above all else wanted a body, that would mean that they could not touch yet you see them doing just that. Anyway, I have no clue as to what to do next. I have tried to start reading a few other books after this one and I just can't do it. I know that they will not even come close to matching the excellency of this novel. I am not recommending that you read this book; I'm ordering you to read it. So go out and buy this book NOW!!!

Rating: Summary: "Amazing Yet Sad" Review: I am 13 years old. I only said i was 12 because the numbers would not go any higher. I have loved His Dark Materials trilogy. While in borders i met my 6th grade techer who suggested the book The Golden Compass for me. Well i took it; and after the first few pages i could not put it down and read it in less than 3 days. Than i learned from her about the second part, The Subtle Knife, and I was sooooo excited. After reading this book I thought it was the lasst one. But it wasn't. As i learned at our 8th grade book fair, i saw the last book. And It was spectacular. And after getting to the last page; i just wanted this book to go on, and on. but it didn't. My heart was pounding as I got to the last sentence, and after reading it and knowing that the end was goig to be that way, I cried and cried. Yes cried. So when i become 20, i am going to either write another book like this one, telling you how Lyra and Will made out, and i am going to dedicate it to Philip Pullman. This is only because i cannot live with the torment of the ending of that book.
Rating: Summary: Another Phillip Pullman Achievement Review: The story of Lyra and Will continues in the third book of His Dark Materials. Lyra is kidnapped by her own mother, who is a wicked woman who had betrayed everyone. She claims to protect Lyra and hides her from the world. Will, meets two low-level angels that were assigned to find him and bring him to Lord Asriel, but in his ignorance, Will is determined to find Lyra. He meets Lyra's old friend, Iorek Brynison, the bear king and they follow the reluctant angels to where Lyra is. On the other hand, The church is learning about the prophesy and is now rooting to kill Lyra in "a sacred way." It seems like Lyra is the key to everthing in the world. Meanwhile, Mary Malone, Lyra's scientist discovers another world. There, she builds a spyglass to see the mysterious Dust as it flows out of the universe. I liked The Amber Spyglass. Who could weave a net so complex about the friendship of two children who are on the edge of maturing and becoming an adult. The growing pains of becoming a teenager and the agony of letting go of the past is fully expressed by Phillip Pullman's novel. I cried in the end of the book because it was so beautiful and so sad. Although I've only read the second book in the series, I can still feel how sad and how unwantingly the two children are separated forever. My favorite part of the story was when Lyra and Will were in the World of the Dead. I liked how Phillip Pullman thought up of such a haunting place and how Lyra grew up in that lonely place. She was able to let go of her past and face the new future. Also, she finally understood that life wasn't only just fun and games, Life has a darker side and a brighter side. It need an adult to understand the true meaning of living in the world.
Rating: Summary: What to do now? Review: Absolute shock settled into me shortly after I finished Philip Pullman's latest addition to the His Dark Materials trilogy. The immense tragedy of the ending threatened to be overwhelming. I won't reveal what happens at the end of this masterpiece. Suffice to say that even now, three days later, ten minutes does not go by without me thinking about this fantastic book. I have told all of my friends and family to get their hands on a copy of this book as soon as possible. It left me absolutely breathless. Many people assume that, since it is fantasy, it isn't worth reading. I myself am not ordinarily a fantasy fan, but this trilogy has held me transfixed at the edge of my seat. Which begs the question: What am I to do now? I am in the habit of always having a book on the go, but since I finished The Amber Spyglass, I haven't started anything new, nor do I want to. Nothing can measure up. I am walking around in a perennial daze, filled with a new sense of tragedy. Buy this book! It's one of those rare books that make you laugh, cry, and think all at once.
Rating: Summary: The best book from His Dark Materials Review: This was one of the most incredible books I have ever read. After I had finished, I just had to sit and think about it. And while I was thinking, I was also crying (yes, crying). I almost felt like I knew Will and Lyra after reading the three books and I found the ending to be extremely sad. This is a very unique series and I still think about even though I read it over a year ago. I plan on rereading the books because they were so amazing.
