Summary: "Invitation to the Game" is inspiring, unforgettable
Review: This is the first time I have thought about "Invitation" since I read it, almost seven years ago. I remember that I read it for a schoolwide reading-awareness fair. My middle school held the fair each year, and everybody was required to read two books over the course of a month. Each grade (7th and 8th) had a seperate list of books they could choose from, all of which were supplied by the library. Teachers and librarians recommended that we pick a book from the appropriate grade's list, though doing so was not recquired. "Invitation" was on the 8th grade list, but I remember thinking to myself how I just HAD to read that one.

In short, I did read the book, and it left me breathless. I don't think I have ever finished a book in a quicker time. We had 2 weeks to finish and take the "proof" quiz, and I think I must have done both before the first was out.

Now, 7 years later I am 20 and find myself typing this review on my computer in a little room of Phillips Hall, Michigan State University. I'm in my second year, and am starting my first novel. It was kind of strange, really. As I sat here at my desk citing a story line in my head, the thought of "Invitation" suddenly occured, and without any sort of pre-meditated planning on thinking about it. It just happened.

It took a few moments, but I soon realized what had happened. The book I am planning has a small trace of commonality with "Invitation", and the thoughts of my own soon-to-be novel triggered the memory of it. I found this occurence to be utterly amazing, since I had never remembered anything before without first thinking about it. "Invitation" must have really left a lasting impression on me, even if it took me seven years to realize it.

It's a funny thing - how something as simple as a collection of words can stay with somebody so long and come back to them when they least expect it. As a person who is new to novel-writing, I hope that my books will have the same effect in the years to come.

Summary: A must read book for teens and one even adults would enjoy.
Review: This is the story of five friends living in a world where, because of robots and computers, the majority of people are un-employed. Coming out of the governement schools, hopes of these five of entering the work force are crushed when they read there diploma: "Enjoy your leasure years and use them creativly". These words ring true in the life of the un-employed. Sent to Designated Areas and without access to technology, they are cut of from the world and living miserably, until they find out about The Game. In The Game there is a world like none they've ever experianced. Is real or is it just a mind-game, run by the government to keep the un-employed content? This story is well told and deals creativly with the problems we have begun to see looming on the horizon, such as over population, computerisation and unemployment. Being written for teens, it's aimed at the people who are going to have to deal with these problems in their future.

Summary: How can anyone say this is good?
Review: This is the worst book that I have ever read. The author uses very few feelings and images throughout the book. The book is very boring and so predictable. There are so many better books out there to read that don't have you falling asleep while reading them. If you want a good science fiction book read anything-but this book.

Summary: WOW!!!
Review: This was certainly one of the best books I have ever read. It makes you question the outside world. WOW!!!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Uneven, unbalanced, and unconvincing.
Review: Though readable, the book seemed unbalanced -- as if the author couldn't decide what to focus on: a fairly standard tale of a non-Utopian future, the mystery of "the Game", or a tale of survival on an alien world.

Summary: Your Invitation to Invitation to the Game!
Review: What would you do if robots had all the jobs, and there was no place for you but in the ranks of unemployment? That is what happened to Lisse and her friends.

Lisse and her friends have finished high school, but none of them can get a job. Then they are sent to a Designated Area for the permanently unemployed. The D.A. as it is called, is a dirty ghetto like area that is patrolled by the thought police, who makes sure no body get out of line. On the streets Lisse and her friends keep hearing little whispers about The Game. Then they receive an invitation, and start their amazing journey. For a while, The Game is an escape from reality, but soon, The Game could hold more then they can handle.

Invitation to the Game is a good book for almost anybody. It is very good and keeps you at the edge of your seat. If you love science fiction books this is a must read.

Summary: "Hate" is a strong word, but certainly appropriate here.
Review: Your old "Joy of Feather Dusters" collection beginning to lose its appeal? Then this book is perfect for you! Stupid, unrealistic, and boring, the story will leave you enthralled... Before I sat down at my kitchen table and began reading it (as an assignment for school), I never realised how interesting a wall could be... I also believe the book to have therapeutic value. Insomniacs, here is your cure!
