Rating: Summary: Bad, then worse...the story when books are dumbed down Review: This book is so pathetically bad. My 8th grade English teacher brought it to the class and passed everybody a copy. Apparently the class would "love" this! It's so exciting! The ending! WOW! In this book everybody is so lamely resorseful. For example: "Let's go fishing!" "Okay! Give me a stick and a lock of your hair!" Then the two proceed to catch a whole motherload of fish! WHY, you might ask? BECAUSE, this book is so lame. It is dumbed down to a seemingly "teenage" level, and the ending is worse. Everybody finds love and gets pregnant. Gross. Implied sex, isn't that a little mature for the 8th grade? I think so.
Rating: Summary: An interesting, unique book Review: This book is the story of Lisse, a 16 yr old girl living in the future. She goes to a "government school" run by the communistic type government of the future. When the students graduate, they are assigned jobs. Lisse's grades aren't so great, and since the robots have taken over all of the jobs she could do, she doesn't get one. Her and 7 others are sent to the city, where the unemployed live. They are provided for, but they have no freedom. Their unproductive life is hardly worth living. That is, untill they get an invitation to The Game... I was required to read this for school. When I first began reading this book, I thought it was going to be very boring because I usually do not like science fiction. But soon as the story unfolded I became very interested and wanted to read more. While it is not exactly a mystery, it has some mysterious elements in it which intrique you and keep you reading. This book won't leave you with a new perspective on life or leave you speechless with its beauty or anything, but it is a unique, creative story set in a fictional and new environment and is surprisingly different from ordinary books.
Rating: Summary: Twisting Adventure, perfect for the Science Fiction reader.. Review: This book kept me reading most of the time but slows down in the middle- a little boring. Maybe not for me- but definitely for the adventurous Science Fiction type! Excellent otherwise!
Rating: Summary: A Disturbing look at a possible future Review: This book really puts your mind into motion when you realize what the heck is going on. You realize that this book has a lot more to offer than a story about a VR game, much more in fact. The book can get a bit disturbing as to how the future lives might live. But when you get through the book, you see just how deep this book gets and how you might even be in this situation. For most readers, this might be a good start into a nice reading career or a nice book to just sit down and read. It is always enjoyable to read and it can easily be picked up, even for younger kids. I suggest this book highly to anyone who likes Science Fiction, or a good book.
Rating: Summary: Invitation to the Game Review: This book was very interesting, because of its ideas on where our world is heading. In the year 2154, the government controls everything. They decide what you do and where you live. Most people, found themselves unemployed and restricted to a designated area (DA). Now, nine unemployed young adults, right out of a government school, must work together to survive their DA. At first, they have trouble getting along and finding things to do. Then they stumble on something that will change their lives, "The Game." They're not sure what to make of it at first, but that it's a simulated paradise where they are to look for clues or answers to the game so they can receive the prize of their desire. But what do they truly desire? I gave this book four stars because it was a little slow, but mostly it was very fascinating science fiction story on the future.
Rating: Summary: what a waste of time... Review: This book, to put it simply, is terrible. I had to read this book for my Sophmore year (which makes no sense, because it's aimed at a younger audience) and was forced to read this so called piece of literature. Don't bother reading this book, it's not worth a penny (or a trip to the library.)...If you want a GOOD book about the future and whatnot, check out Ender's Game.
Rating: Summary: Invitation To The Game Review: This is a great book. Star Wars fans and Gary Paulsen fans...this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: Ther are no words to discribe this totally awsome book. Review: This is so close to being my favorite book, it's scary. It's the future. Unemployed teenagers roam the streets, because robots have taken over the jobs they could have had. And then the Game is interduced to those who deserve it. And the Game is a dangerous and powerful thing, which captures one's mind and soul with it's beauty and all together perfectness. You're invited for more visits. But then one visit is different from the rest. Less ideal. You can't wait to return home. You wait. And you wait. And nothing happens.
Rating: Summary: Lol...I love some of the bad reviews! Review: This is such a good book. I don't know what some people are talking about. If they didn't get something out of this book, then they haven't lived. Really. One of the things Lisse goes through is the horrible pain you get from leaving something so good behind and then the joy you get from experiening something new. We've all been through that at one time or another. I'd recommend this for people of all ages, even though it is written for a younger crowd. I would have also liked to see a little more with the character feelings and the such, but this was written for younger kids, and when I read it as a 6th grader, the characters seemed real to me. Now, 3 years later, when I picked the book up at the library and read it in one sitting, some of the characters are a little less real and alive, but it means more to me. Okay, I've rambled long enough. Some of the people that wrote bad reviews really need to rethink what they're saying. A piece of art isn't always 'good' based on how much blood was spilled. Please keep reading...any books.
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever Review: This is the best book I have ever read. I have read it 3 times so far, and I do not think I am finished. It's such a great story! Monica Hughes does an excellent job of grabbing the readers attention and not letting go until the book is over. If you have not read this book yet, read it today! This will probably always be a favorite of mine. It doesn't matter if your 10 or 100 years old, you're going to love this book! From the front cover to the back, there is never a dull moment! So sorry for the one person who gave it 2 stars. Yes, some of it is unrealistic, that's called FICTION! I wish I could give it 10 stars, it's just excellent, read itand you'll see what I mean!
