Summary: I enjoyed the book, actually.
Review: I enjoyed this book a lot -- I'm saying this on my age level, though I very much prefer adult novels [James Patterson, Jackie Collins, Amy Tan, etc.]. It was entertaining in a sweet way, but the relation of mother and daughter was WAY, WAY too close. But I'm looking forward to what Lynne and Britney can cook up next.

Summary: Great Book!!
Review: I read "A Mother's Gift" by Britney & Lynne Spears because I am a big Britney fan and enjoyed their first book. But i never expected to love it! The book is an amazing heartwarming story about a girl who doesn't have much in terms of material things but when she joins a school, because of her fabulous voice, full of rich students with lots of things she realizes how rich she really is with all the love surrounding her and her single mother in her small town. I know this sounds like the same old story we've all heard several times, but this is really different. The story has twists, secrets, and surprises and is written from the perspective of a teen girl in high school which makes it an interesting and great read all the way through. I would suggest this book to all (especially teens) - Britney fans and those who will be after reading this book!

Summary: It isn't good, it isn't bad, it just IS
Review: Whenever a 'celebrity' releases a book, there is always some suspicion that it's the work of a ghost writer - particularly when the alleged author is as much of an intellectual vacuum as miss Spears. It's often quite easy to see how the celeb's basic idea has been spun into a more successful novel by a much more talented writer. I am one hundered percent certain, then, that there was no ghosting involved in the creation of this book.

That's not to say it's particularly offensive; it's moderately well written (the elder Spears' influence, no doubt) and all that. It's just... so... unexceptional. The basic plot is every 'poor underdog' story you've ever heard, but without any kind of twist or energy to keep the readers' interest. The characters are functional. The pacing is okay. There are no spelling mistakes. Sure, thousands of teenyboppin' idiots will be cluttering up these review sections with comments like "WOH BRITNEY SPEARS IS FANTASTIC!!!!! SHE DID IT AGANI!!!!11" but it's just another passing fad, and it'll soon be relegated to the never-to-be-touched-again bookshelves.

The only thing that got me even vaguely passionate about this was the revolting sugary cloying faux-sentiment that oozed from the pages like pus. Everything's just so lovely in "A Mother's Gift", you see. The heroine is just so lovely and kind, and her mother just loves her so much and the ending's so happy... it makes me want to grab Britney and 'mom' by their hair and drag them out of their valium-tinted vacuous world. I'll be greatly surprised if any girls (or their mothers) can really relate to this little cotton-wool covered schmaltz.

What REALLY disturbs me, however, isn't the book itself but what it represents - the cynical money-grubbing, pre-packaged, market-tested world of pop music slowly sliding its well-manicured fingers into the world of children's literature.

Britney- Your time is up. Please return to the mall that spawned you.

Lynn- Congratulations, your daughter is pretty and has a great body. Now cash that cheque and leave us all alone.

Parents- Treat your children: ignore this bland tosh and buy some Roald Dahl, James Howe, Janet and Allan Ahlberg, J.K. Rowling, Phillipa Pearce, Roger McGough, Mary Norton, Jacqueline Wilson and Terry Jones. You'll both be glad you did.

Summary: The best book ever
Review: A Mother's Gift was a very touching novel and very hard to put down. It resembled part of Britney's life (singing and dancing). I don't think that it could be written any better. This book brings out the best of Lynne and Britney Spears and it shows that dreams really can come true. I could tell that they spent a lot of time on this book and put forth a lot of effort even through Britney's crazy schedule. I can't wait to read their books to come.

Summary: Quite the worst book I have ever read
Review: Judging by some of the fawning reviews this 'book' has received, Ms Spears and her mother are laughing all the way to the bank with this little number. Plotless, saccharine sweet, living the non-existant American dream, "A Mother's Love" is an insult to the intelligence, a comdemnation of the dumbed down, easily pleased society in which we live.

This book will give me nightmares. Good thing I didn't pay for it, I'd be asking for my money back. Plus compensation.

Avoid.

Summary: not worth it
Review: Although this wasn't the worst book, it definitely wasn't one I enjoyed. The plot and characters were lifeless, not to mention that they've been used a thousand times before. The main character's life is so 'perfect' that it's incredibly difficult to relate to her. There are other books out there that are more worth your time and attention.

Summary: Hmmm...
Review: I bought this "novel" out of curiosity. This is a decent book for young adults, but to the serious readers, it leaves much to be desired. Had the "writers" added more plot and length, the book quite possibly could have recieved better reviews. All in all, not many will commit to A Mother's Gift, simply because of the author(s) names printed on the book. If you have no negative feelings for Ms. Spears (and her mother), try this book. Even if you feel animosity towards Britney, you could very well be in for a surprise.

Summary: Wow!
Review: This book was very moving! I mean I thought it would just be another book based on the life of Britney but it turned out to be really great. I mean when they found out her secret it really changed. This is my favorite book!

Summary: Wow oh wow
Review: I read brit brit's new book and here's what I think about it

...I almost never cry ...but towards the end of the book "A Mother's gift" I was crying for at least 1 hour and half strait ...the book is so touching ...at the beginning of the book it seemed to go nowhere but the story started forming and the more I read the more the more the book caught my full attention ...then for a little while the book didn't catch my attention as much but then it started getting better and better again and before I knew it was crying and crying and I not the type of person that cries ...some people say that the book is to sweet but not even one part of the book is sweet; even slightly ...it's very emotional and touching to the heart though ...my opinion on the book is ...if you don't get "A Mother's gift" you'd really be missing out on something very incredible and amazing ...and if you are a parent and don't get this book for your kids as a gift then you'd be doing you're kids a very big disservice ...this book shows exactly what a kid/parent bond should be like and the book leaves an imprint on your heart ...it would be on your mind for some time to come. It's not a book that just slips your mind ... the book is inspirational, funny, very smart and insightful not to mention you will cry unless you are to chicken to finish it. Even if you hate Britney you'd love this book ...that's how impressed I was with it. By Alan Mercieca
