Rating: Summary: Not the exactly the best book Review: The story was simple and little boring. And the authors writing, not the best. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Brittany is a great singer but not a great writer.
Rating: Summary: Pleasent surprise. Review: When I saw that my little sis had bought this book, I was like, "Oh what the heck. I'll read it just for the sake of it cuz we're going to the beach and I got nothing else to do once I get outta the water." To my surprise, I found that I was really enjoying the book. It's fairly short with bigger print so I was able to read it in one day. And the story actually had some very good points and morals in it. The basis is about this girl named Holly, who is this amazing singer, and her mother. Holly longs to get in this music school but knows that her mom would never be able to afford it. Well, her boyfriend secretly tapes her while she's singing in church and sends it in to the school. She gets in and is basically thrown into a completely different world then she's used to. I recommend the book, even if you don't really like Britney. It's a good, short read.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book from a wonderful performer Review: I love Britney Spears as a performer. She is a great singer, dancer, and actress...and now she has proven to be a great story writer too. This book (co-authored with her mom) is a wonderful novel for young adults. It has a positive message that any parent should love. Do yourself a favor and read this book (whether you are a Britney fan or a fan of feel good fiction).
Rating: Summary: "Apropos of the Wet Snow" Review: This novel, in places, recalls Dostoevsky at his most hauntingly lyrical. The Mother/Daughter bond -- tragically underexplored in most modern literature -- is studied in dymanic detail here, and the stress it endures and untimately triumphs over simply breaks one's heart. Kafka once said that "sometimes, in our arrogance, we have more anxiety for the world than for ourselves", which is to say that at times we deny our own triumphs and tragedies in fear of being seen as self-centered and unfeeling towards the plight of others. I never really understood what that meant until after reading "A Mother's Gift". Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: come on you people! This is excellent! Review: Authored by the Spearswomen, whom understand love so well!,this is a book that leaves you with a warm glow .I hope that more books are penned by these 2,whom in their great relationship, have so much to offer and to teach.Anyway! This is about Holly Lovell,a (fictional)girl who can sing so well and wins a place in a prestigious school for singers, and for a while she is embarassed about her mum and their old car and their tiny home in the south. All the while, her mum has a deep secret..what could it beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee??????Find out!!I really like this book!!!!!!! :-)
Rating: Summary: bad Review: ... what really bothered me about "A Mother's Gift" was, that it bordered (in my mind) on vulgar propaganda. It seems, that it was designed to rehash the cliched "rags to riches" story (the real Britney by the way only has the latter part of this story in common with her literary counterpart) in order to offer young girls and boys a vision, an image, a possibility (however remote) of achieving stardom. While this visage itself may be helpful for young people, it had an exaggerated, self-caricaturing effect. Most importantly, however, it was designed to create an imaginary solidarity between Britney and her fans. By implicitly suggesting, that anyone can become a star, it lowers the star's pedestal and puts her (in the minds of her fans) into the category of "beloved" (however fabricated and untrue this may be), rather than "admirable". If "A Mother's Gift" had been a pamphlet instead of a novel, at least I could have respected the authors for not calling their creation "art" ...
Rating: Summary: Britney and Her Mother Fail To Captivate a Reader Review: Although Britney has proved she can sing and get boys' hearts pumping, she still has to prove she can write one sentence worth reading. Even with her mother's help, Britney can not write a book worth reading, much less buying. The storyline took no imagination to create. The story of a small town girl thrown into a world of high society is old and classic. It could have been a good storyline but the way it was written made it quite boring and repetitive. Britney and her mother are horrible writers. Their sentences flop and their characters are underdeveloped. The character Holly is a delightful character ,but she is missing normal qualities of a human being. Holly is the picture perfect girl. There seems to be nothing wrong with her appearance or manners. The same goes for her boyfriend, Tyler. Flaws would have made these characters more real. The character ,Ditz, is a waste of words and paper. Ditz is very unreal and lacking several character developments such as growing up or fighting with her innatentive mother. The only character I could stomach was Holly's mother, Wanda. I am guessing that Lynne Spears wrote this character as Wanda seems like a real mother. Most of time, the sentences in the book were petite and lacking appeal. The plot was unreal. Especially the part where Holly is the youngest person to get a scholarship to the fancy school. How often does that happen? Almost never. The only part I like is the book is the twist near the end that concerns Wanda. That really is the only part that took some imagination to write. The whole book would be a complete drop if it wasn't for that part. Even the ending is quick and not well-written. In conclusion, this book was a waste of my money and time. I only hope that people can read this and be warned not to buy it. Unless you want to die of boredom, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!! Thank you very much!
Rating: Summary: Seek more Review: I thought I'd try reading this just because it was available on the shelf of a teen reading section in our local library...boy was i wrong....I must admit the plot was well thought out with good characters and a good sense of direction to where the book was going~ it gave good lessons and suprised us w/ a few hidden meanings but it lacked one thing- development...the book is good~ for a fourth graDER but dont try it unless you enjoy narrow thinking and low reading level with no challenge
Rating: Summary: not worth your time Review: There are so many other books that you could be reading. The characters are flat and difficult to relate to, while the plot is unbelieveable at best. If you're looking for something with substance, try something else.
Rating: Summary: Very good book for Mothers and Daughters to read together Review: This Book is a great book for mothers and daughters to enjoy together. I think that Britney and Lynne Spears did an excellent job. I do have to admit that i do not like Britney Spears too much...but do not have anything at all against her. She is a great singer. To read this book I think you must start reading it with an open mind...and forget who wrote it. Because it IS really a good book and i think people under-estimate Britney. I love their style of writing, although i do think the book ended awkwardly and the ending was a little corny, it was very touching at the same time. I really do suggest it.
