Rating: Summary: My review on "Waiting for the rain" Review: The book was really good it had a lot of detail which made it easy to picture what it was like back then. It also showed the way blacks and whites saw things. Part 2 really caught my attention. It had more action. Part one was more about how they both lived being black and white. I did not like how Tengo was was blaming everything on Frikkie. Also I thought it was unresolved. ex. Did Tengo make it to USA.
Rating: Summary: My review Review: The book was cool I like when they were always playing at the farm. Then I liked when Frikkie got hit in the head with a half of a crow bar. I liked all of the things in the book.
Rating: Summary: Tengo's thought to go to school. Review: Dear Sheila Gordon Your book was really interesting because it made me think because racism is so rude and slavery should never have been allowed. Colored people were dieing just because they were colored and that is not right. I liked your book "Waiting for the Rain", I am interesting in reading your other books...
Rating: Summary: How I felt about your book Review: The novel was alright, but found it rather slow. The ending was interesting but predictable. I liked the novel because it's a rare topic.
Rating: Summary: How I felt about your book Review: I thought your book was good. The plot was okay, and I especially liked the last chapter where Tengo met Frekkie. I would give this book a 4 or 5 star rating. I found the starting of your book boring, but after Tengo left to Johannesburg for an education, it got way better. The best parts of the book are when Tengo, leaves to Johnnesburg, when the protesting breaks out, when Joseph burns the letter, and when Tengo finds out that the soldier that was chasing him ended up to be Frekkie. If I know about anyone that's looking to buy a good book, I'll recommend yours.
Rating: Summary: An excellent look at one of the great struggles of our time. Review: My grade 7/8 class are just finishing this novel and it has helped to show the world beyond the class room. Apartheid seems like a foreign concept to my students but this novel explains it in their terms and makes them want to read more. I'd recommend it to readers of any age.
Rating: Summary: The words and foreshadowing made this a splendid book. Review: The capturing words and secretive foreshadowing of this book made it as splendid as can be. It surprised me how time jumped quite a bit from part I to part II, but the author put detail in the first part so that when the book got exciting near the end, it would seem like a distant memory from the past. The author tricked me sometimes when a character was introduced, because that same character may change or you may find another person's opinion on that character. This exciting story kept my attention well. The chapters ended with cliffhangers, and there was always action. I could never guess what would happen next. There were so many paths the story could have taken. The only two things I would have changed would be: the way Joseph's father was only mentioned once and the way the ending is a cliffhanger. I hope Sheila Gordon writes a sequel.
Rating: Summary: The novel WAITING FOR THE RAIN is very captivating Review: All the Gr. 9's in our school have to read this book for the program. I am in gr. 9 and i just finished the book. At first, I wasn't too eager to start reading it, I'm more into mysteries and books by John Grisham, but when I got into the novel, it captivated me and pushed me to read further. As i learned about Aparthaite, from the novel, and from my teacher, I learned that racisim is everywhere and we are foolish if we act in that manner. The book is great and I suggest it to anyone who is looking for a good book. This one involves you, (personally, if you can relate) and makes you feel like you are there, living the struggle with Tengo, seeing why we are so fortunate to live the way we do. I suggest that if you haven't read it, to go and read it, because after you have read this book, you will have a different outlook on life and it will make you thankful for the wonderful things you've got!
