Summary: Blacks and Whites on Apartheid
Review: The book "Waiting for the Rain" made you realize how life was really like down in South Africa. Everyone just heard stories; but with this book; you see both points of veiws from children, black and white. The book in general was interesting if you look on the outside. But the story line was kind of boring. The end was different, it was unpredictable. I didn't know what was going to happen. In the beginning of the book, I think they could have used more detail because when the author described something, I really didn't understand it. On the other hand, I like how the author showed you Tengo's and Frikkie's side of their story on apartheid. They actually lived it. I personally got to understand how hard the blacks lives were and how ignorant the whites were. The book was worth reading.

Summary: Waiting for the rain
Review: Reading "Waiting for the Rain" was almost as exciting as watching the history cannel. It had some good points but it also had many flaws. For a book that is supposed to be at a high school level, it had a lot of words normal, everyday high schoolers would not be able to comprehend. It also made the little events too exaggerated. For example when the little red headed girl ordered Tengo's father to do something, the author made it seem like the end of the world. Yes, it isn't right to have a child have disrespect to an elder, but on the other hand, in reality, nobody would have made that a big deal! While reading this book, we got to learn of the hardships of many blacks. Although they were not slaves, their lives really weren't that great. They had their land taken away just to work for whites for low wages which is unfair, in my eyes and others. All in all, it was an okay book!

Summary: This is the review for the stupid book "Waing for the Rain"
Review: The book "Waiting for the Rain" was a good book in the begininng, near the end it started to get a little boring. About the only part near the ending I liked was when Tengo brutlally bashed in Frikkie's skull with a steel pipe. After that the story got a little boring. The book was boring when Tengo & Frikkie were in the little shack for half a chapter, and the story needed a better ending. I mean it was a stupid ending with Tengo walking back to his aunt's house. The least the author could do was to tell what happens to Tengo, and if Frikkie ends up being ok from that violent, skull bashing blow to the head. Overall, the story was realy good with the acception of the ending.

Summary: You don't need to step in crap twice to know it stinks
Review: "Waiting for the Rain" was about as interesting as watching paint dry. The plot was dull and boring, and there was no real conflict in the book except for the apartheid going on between the whites and the blacks. However, the book had some parts that I thought were interesting. It really opened up my eyes to see how badly the blacks really are being treated just because of their color. The ending wasn't that good, it left too many unanswered questions. The author could have told us what happend to Tengo and Frikkie: Did they ever talk again? Did Tengo go into the ANC? The ending of the book just left you hanging, with a lot of questions about Tengo and Frikkie. I give it 2 stars because it gives you alot of information, but doesn't do it in a very interesting way.

Summary: Waiting fot The Excitment
Review: Reading "Waiting for the Rain" is like eating cold pizza. It still has the taste, but it's cold and somewhat bland. The book had a good story , but it lacked the excitement. It didn't have a constant sense of tension, so you lost attention in the story. Throughtout the story, especially in the beginning, they were just running around the farm. It gave too many unimportant details that made the book seem to drag. When Tengo's cousin was going to send him the books, there was no need for the scene in the kicthen. Instead of getting to conflict, there were little scenes that had no real meaning. Then, when Tengos's school is out of session, it explained in detail how he spent his time, when all it had to say was he was bored. So, in the end, if there was more conflict and action,it would have been a much better book.

Summary: The way I viewed Waiting for The Rain
Review: This book by Shelia Gordon,"Waiting for The Rain",explained the ways some of the South Africans where treated when the whites were starting to dominate S. Africa .It almost describes the way the blacks were treated in America durring the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's by the whites, and also by the government.I really found the book boring at the begininng because it was very dull and plain.Around the last 2 or 3 chapters,it was starting to get very good. This was when the author started to use very good details and the action was heating up.The Africans started to protest and riot for their equal rights. This was the part that gribed my likings.

Summary: My Review of "Waiting For the Rain"
Review: Reading "Waiting for the Rain" was like watching a good television show. I thought it was a good book to read if you like to know about segregation. The book was pretty good, but dull. It also gave a lot of information on the history of South Africa and Apartheid. Tengo was the main character. He had a best friend named Frikkie. Tengo is black and Frikkie is white. They are separated by their color and what is going on in S. Africa. The only thing I saw wrong with the book was that there wasn't much action. The book is mostly about friendship and color. The other thing that was bad was the ending. It doesn't say what happened to each of them afterward. I would change the ending if I could or make it longer. The book was an overall of 4 out of 5 stars. You should read it.

Summary: Michael's Big Review!
Review: "Waiting For The Rain". When I first heard the title I thought it was going to be the most boring book on the planet. But when I started to get to know the characters and the settings I was instantly hooked. I liked the way you showed that Tengo and Frikkie are great friends, but after the little girl with the china incident Tengo started to drift away from his soild friendship with Frikkie. I also loved how you jumped into the future of Tengo's life. The riots and goverment was true to the time which made the novel also vey interesting. And the ending!..... the cliffhanger was great! Keep up the good work! From: Michael

Summary: My letter to the publishers of "Waiting for the rain."
Review: The book was great! I absoutely loved it! My favorite charecter was Tengo. The book helped me understand the history of South Africa. I enjoyed learning about how the blacks in South Africa used to live. I also enjoyed learning about "The Great Trek' and the misunderstanding that started it all. I especially liked the part in chaptr sixteen when Tengo bashed the soldier overe the head and it turned out to be Frikkie! I think that that was a cool twist. Thanks for publishing "Waiting for the rain'.
