Summary: this is a great book
Review: In this story a young girl named emily learns about her family. At the beginning of the book emily is on her way to help her Grandmother Ola move from the coastal desert of California to her mother's house in Alb. because her grandfather passed away. The read learns that there is some bad blood between Ola and emily's mom. Later in the blook the read will learn that Ola has cancer and that's one reason why Ola is moving in with Emily's family. Near the end of the book Ola and Emily's mom settle the bad blood between them.

I liked the this book, because it showed me how the bond between mother and daughter is. It also showed me that Parents have such a major role in their childerns lives.

Summary: Toning The Sweep
Review: The book Toning The Sweep by Angela Johnson was an excellent book. I liked this book very much because it was exciting. In this book Emily is growing up and learning new things and ways to live her life. In this book she had to tone the sweep. If you read this book you will find out what that means and you will love the book.

Summary: Toning the sleep
Review: The book Toning the Sweep wasn't a very good book.It was ok at first because I though it would get better but it didn't. Maybe I didn't like the book because I'm in the 11th grade and this book is a 6th grade book. The book would have been better if it would have talked more about the civil rights and how Ola's husband died. I don't want to make it seem like this was the worst book ever because there where a few good parts, like when Emily took Ola's car the first time. Also, when Emily and her mother had that ceremony for Emily's granddaddy. Another good part of the book was when Ola was dancing and then Emily learned how to fandango.

Summary: New Concept
Review: The book was intense, though it was a little hard to understand at first. For intense toning the sweep was a concept, I never heard. As the story went on it explained more about the concept of toning the sweep. It was easy to relate to parts of the book; the mother and daughter relationships were easy to understand. These relationships went through the same things that people go through in everyday life. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about new experiences and everyday life.

Summary: Review on Toning The Sweep
Review: The novel Toning The Sweep by Angela Johnson is a story about a fourteen-year-old girl named Emily. She just found out that her grandmother, Ola is dying of cancer and will be moving back to Cleveland with them so they can take care of her. When they drive down to Little Rock Emily remembers how much she loves the Desert, and her Mother remembers how much she hates it. They collect all of her grandmother's things and Emily decides to video tape Ola (her grandmother) and her friends for memories to take home with them. While Emily is down there she finds out what really happened to her grandfather and how he died. She then understands why her grandmother is so upset about it. I would reccomend this book to anyone who beleives family should stick together through rough times and love one another unconditionally.

Summary: Toning the Sweep Review
Review: The novel Toning the Sweep by Angela Johnson is a story about Emily a fourteen-year-old girl (the main character) and her mama are moving to Little Rock after Emily's grandfather's funeral. Where Ola lives Emily's Grandmother . Emily finds out that her Grandmother is dying from cancer. Throughout the whole book Emily is videotaping Ola and her friends for memories. Later Emily finds out what really happened to her grandfather and why her mama is so mad. Ola, Emily and mama are moving to Cleveland so mama and Emily can take care of Ola. Toning the sweep the name of the book comes from a chapter in this book when mama and Emily tone the sweep of Emily's Grandfather. To tone a sweep means to hit a plow so it makes a loud noise to make sure everyone knows that someone is dead. This book shows that what ever goes wrong families should always stick together. This book was good book that was quick and easy.

Summary: My review of Toning the Sweep
Review: The story Toning The Sweep by Anglela Johnson is a powerful but sad story about a fourteen-year-old girl, named Emily, and her mother going to the desert to help her dying grandmother, Ola, pack up her home and move back to Cleveland with Emily. Ola was diagnosed with cancer. I thought that all the characters in the story very interesting, especially Ola. She was very lively and was a good blance when the mood is sad. I would definitely give this book three out of 3 stars.

Summary: A good quick read
Review: This book was given to me as a school requirement in my tenth grade English class. As with most books, I did not care for it at first few pages: however, after maybe 20 pages I really got in to it. It is based on a young African American girl whose grandmother is dying of cancer. She and her family are going out to her house in the desert to get all her stuff and move it back with them. The whole time this little girl finds out all about her family and important life lessons. I thought that the book was very well written and well designed. The fact that it is only about 100 pages and still gets its point across is proof of its great organization. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the little girl went around interviewing people with the camera. This made it very easy to figure out were the characters were coming from. Overall it was a good quick read.

Summary: Completely Pointless
Review: This book was required and I definately wouldn't have read it otherwise. It had absolutely no plot and was basically an uneventfull diary of a girls time with her grandmother.
