Summary: Could be better
Review: This is the first of $ilver's young adult series about a group of teens supposedly practicing Wicca. One of the problems with this type of book is showing kids under 18 actively involved in Wicca like they'd had years of training. It doesn't work that way.

As far as how the book works as a novel, the story is ok, though the writing style is only tepid. One major flaw is that a specific incident happens that should have important repercussions, and it doesn't. That storyline is just forgotten as the book progresses. Better editings was needed.

Summary: Silver portrays women in a bad light!
Review: This is yet another example of how the new age market tagets teens. I am also very upset by the cover--where a underweight, half-naked, young woman is provocatively trying to get out of jail. Women and witches have been trying to gain equal rights and freedom from discrimination for years. Books, art, or music which continues this prejudice does nothing to help the women in our society. As a counselor, I am asked why so many of our young girls are underweight and unhealthy. I tell them to look on the T.V., check out the latest pop singer, or look at messages given by the AMA. As a pagan, my faith is accepting of differences, and we feel that all are equal in the eyes of the Goddess. Ms. RavenWolf, who doesn't have the guts to use her own name, is doing a severe injustice to those of her gender and her faith. I urge you to strongly reconsider buying this book. For the teens out there, please find other books which are not published by Llewellyn, and you will find a much better quality of work.
