Rating: Summary: I read the first chapter of this book, and I was hooked! Review: I just LOVED this book! A great read, especially if you are having trouble finding something to get into. THE FIFTH OF MARCH is about a young girl, Rachel, trying to find her 'place' in the world. She is a hired girl working for John Adams in Colonial Boston, during the dawn of the birth of our country. Rachel has many of the same feelings young teen girls have today, even though she lived 220 years ago. A teriffic book, and I reaally reccommend it.

Rating: Summary: Good Book overall Review: when compared to books in general this would be a ten, like all of Ann Rinaldi's work, but when compared to her other books (such as Hang a Thousand Trees With Ribbons) I give it an Eight.

Rating: Summary: A story of the Boston Massarce. Review: This was an interesting book written by Ann Rinaldi. Historical Fiction books often bore me, but not this one! It kept me reading non-stop. It is about a fourteen year old girl named Rachel Marsh who works for John and Abigal Adams as a nanny. British soldiers come to Boston and one soldier, Matthew Kilroy, stands outside the Adams residence on guard. Rachel falls in love with him and they end up going out every Tuesday night when she is off. On the day of March 5th a massacre brakes out leaving five men, including Matthew, charged with manslaughter. Rachel does everything she can to get Matthew out because she knows that Matthew is innocent. John helps in her fight to free him, but when released Matthew is sent back to England. John and Abigal then let Rachel go and she works for a family of Quakers. I think that it was a good idea to let Rachel go because she was with Matthew more than the children. Also, she was becoming a teen and wanted to go out into the real world and see what it was like.
Rating: Summary: FIfth of MArch Review: The first book I read by Ann Rinaldi was The Secret of Sarah Revere, which was pretty good, except the ending wasn't happy, but hey, it's pretty good considering you're actually learning some history and it doesn't put you to sleep.
The second book I read by her was Hang a Thousand Trees with Ribbons, which, again, the ending wasn't happy, but it was better than The Secret of Sarah Revere.
This book is the third book I've read by Rinaldi, and it's the best so far!
It is the story of Rachel Marsh, who becomes an indentured servant to John and Abigail Adams out of her own free will, to escape her mean Uncle Eb,her only family left. Rachel prides herself with being very loyal to the Adams's.
However, when British soldiers occupy Boston to keep the citizens under control, Rachel knows that she must soon choose between being a Patriot or a Tory. When Rachel starts seing a young British soldier, Uncle Eb threatens her position with the Patriot Adams by saying that he will snitch to them if she doesn't do what he wants.
