Rating: Summary: GET THIS BOOK WHILE IT'S STILL IN PRINT!! Review: I was so heartbroken when my older copy began to rust and crumble, but was so happy and gleeful when I found out that Amazon had it, and for a lower price! Praise the high king, this book was fabulous. It's really sad to see that many of the greatest teenage fictions in the 80's are now out of print, don't let this book slip out of your hands! This is a timeless romance tale for all!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book ! Review: It is very rare to find classic love stories like this book. It tells us a story of a young woman from a poor family, not beautiful but intelligent. She dares to be different, and achieved what she wanted in life, and love. I've been searching for books like this one, and was very lucky to find one last copy in a local bookstore. I am suggesting everyone to read this book, especially young girls like me.
Rating: Summary: My daughter and I can't believe it's over! Review: My ten-year-old daughter and I stayed up long nights to finish reading this book. We loved Biran's spunk, her father's subversive encouragement, her ability to find friendship and love in an unwelcoming world. And we can't believe the book is over. After the last page, we went for a long walk where we tried to imagine a sequel - the adventures of Biran's sister Darirah who perhaps had learned to read from her older sister, had read stories from 1001 Arabian Nights, and had begun to invent tales and adventures about Scheherazade's younger sister. We imagined that Darirah then found herself kidnapped, living out those adventures. We didn't get very far in our imagining. But if this book continues to stay on our minds, we may have to get to work!
Rating: Summary: Seven Daughters and Seven Sons Review: Seven Daughters and Seven Sons is a great book about an Abrabian girl who disguises herself as a boy to become a merchant. This girl's name who disguises herself a boy is Buran. Long ago, girls can not handle business so Buran would dress up as a boy to make her own business as a merchant. She needs to make a business so that she can make money for her poor family. She has a father and seven sisters including herself. Buran also has an uncle, who has six sons. The uncle send his six sons to become merchants, but were not really good at it. The six boys used up all the money, so Buran would think of a trap for those selfish boys. Buran became a successful bussiness man, while that time, she met a price and had fell in love with him. But the price just thought of Buran a guy, so if Buran tells the price about her little secret, she would also loose what she had achieved. Even though Buran had made a lot of money to raise the family, so also wants love. Guess that sometimes you can't always get what you want.

Rating: Summary: Adventurous and Romantic Review: Seven Daughters and Seven Sons is mainly about an Arab girl who decides to help her family. But not in the way you would think. In this place and time period, girls weren't allowed or expected to be able to manage a business. That's what the boys do. So when Buran's father (who has seven daughters, and no one to help him) becomes in desperate need of money, Buran decides to help. So she disguises herself as a boy, travels to a distant city, and becomes a very successful merchant. Now meanwhile, Buran's rich uncle has seven sons, and he has sent them to distant cities to become merchants. Unfortunately, they don't do so well. So, later in the story, after Buran becomes rich as well, she discovers that the sons wasted her uncle's money, and she tricks them into doing something that will be very humiliating for them later. Oh, and while Buran is disguised as a boy, she falls in love with the city's crown prince, Mahmud. Of course, he thinks she is a boy, and she can't tell him the truth because she would lose everything she has worked for. Part of the story is told by Buran, another part by Mahmud. But it all collaborates nicely to tell a tale of adventure and romance. I think it would be best for ages 10&up. I believe even adults would enjoy it, but teens especially would love it. If you like stories like this, I reccomend all of Tamora Pierce's "Song of the Lioness" books. They're a lot like this one, with the girl-disguising-herself-as-a-boy theme.
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever! Review: Seven Sons and Seven Daughters is the best book I have ever read. I've read it mutiple times since I first bought it a couple of years ago and each time is better than the last. It is an utter inspiration
Rating: Summary: A magical powerful world Review: that will keep you rivetted... This world is what Barbara Cohen has created. I read this when i was a little girl twice, and I havent picked it up for probably 10 years. But it is still as magical as it was then. This book tells the story of another world, where women are considered lesser than men. A man is considered cursed for not having a son. However, the irony here is that the Man with seven daughters fares far better with his daughters than the man with seven sons, for sons are fickle and want to lust ;) From desert caravans to faraway shores, true love and jealosy, this story is one of the most remarkable in existence. This is definitely a must-read for any young-at-heart.
Rating: Summary: You'll Love It! Review: This book is an amazing book about a girl, Buran, who, wanting to help her family's income, goes to start a business in the city, disguised as a man... There she meets Mahmud, and finds herself falling in love with him. There are two sides to this book; one that tells how Buran feels and what is in her mind, and the other, who Muhmud feels. This book will capture your imagination and make you want ot read it again and again.
