I be;ieve that where I live and how young I am, I'm too sheltered and havent yet noticed how much prejudice there is in the world still. I also have not felt what its like to be in love. I read this book the week after I saw the movie SAVE THE LAST DANCE, which is kind of in the same genre as IF YOU COME SOFTLY. Overall, I think that it had a good message, but I might have enjoyed it more if I was older.

I am a freshman in high school. I was the first person in my class to read it. This book really touched me. A lot of my friends say that they are in love but after reading this book they changed their minds. Miah and Ellie really LOVED each other. I don't think that I will ever find love like that. There is someone out there for everyone they just happened to be of a different race. I think this book should be required for freshman in high school to read. They would really enjoy it. I know I did!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Was it worth it? Review: I am going to be a senior in high school this fall and in the midst of my summer reading list, I decided to pick out a book for pleasure. If You Come Softly caught my eye, mainly because I like books I can relate to and I had been in an interracial relationship my freshman year. However, I was very disappointed. As you read this book, try to find the climax. was it when they kissed? Said I love you? I dont believe their ever was a true climax. And what about towards the end? What I feel that the the author intened to be the climax was like, 2 pages. I quick up and down. Maybe my reading level was that above what the book was intended for, but I think Ms. Woodson needs to work a little harder, it was a good attempt though, but not enough to keep me reading.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: If You Come Softly Review: The book If You Come Softly is a brillian work written by Jacqueline Woodson that tells a very unique story about an interracial frienship turned romance. The story is a modern day Romeo and Juliet. The main characters are fifteen year old Miah, a black boy and Ellie, a white girl. They are both new in a Manhattan prep school. They immediatly click and eventually fall in love. Society has a real problem with this issue, even more so than their own families. They receive strange stares and harsh glances while holding hands and kissing in public. They decide to stay together through all the negative feedback and lean on each other through many problems they face in their own lives. The characters develop emotionally with each new experience they have as a bi-racial couple. Just like Romeo and Juliet however, things don't end up well for the young couple.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Too short, but good Review: I thought this book was too short, but I enjoyed it. I have been in a relationship just like Miah's and Ellie's so I have a first-hand at knowing what an interracial relationship is like. Also one of my best friends goes out with a black girl and people stare at the sometimes when they go places, but this book teaches you to follow your heart. Dont' worry about what everybody else thinks and says about you. Follow your heart and do what you want to do. This is a good book b/c I found the message within the pages and it's to do what you have to do. Don't let anybody hold you down or keep you from grasping your goal or dream.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: beautifully written, however an abrupt ending Review: Woodson writes with wonderful voice and simplicity that belies the content. Her words are airy, almost lyrical, drawing the reader into Ellie and Miah's young romance. She confronts many pertinent race issues in the U.S., and though the ending leaves something to be wanted, one should read the book anyway if only for grace of style and ease of movement.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: If You Come Softly Review: I was saddened by this book. It was a great read and I do plan to use it , maybe, with my reading students next year. But I felt there was a lot of unfinished business in the book. I guess I wanted more conflicts with the Ellie and Miah relationship. I felt it ended to quickly and there were a lot of unanswered questions. However, it was a very good read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh Review: i liked this book a whole lot. all through the book it felt like my life was going to end if anything happened to them. my heart was so tight and when i read the end i all but burned the book. i was extremely attatched to it. but when i thought about it, i had to give woodson two thumbs up for this amazing story. miah and ellie's love was so thick and rich . . and real too. i think it really showed what two people of different races think when they get strange looks from people that see them hand holding on a steet corner. how they feel uncomfortable and yet, how they really just don't care.
