Rating: Summary: I hated it Review: The book is too boring! I, along with many other people had to read it as a summer reading project, and it took me over a month to finish it. if I could, I'd give this book a negative 50 starts, but I can't. It's only from 1 to 5.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book! Review: I too was assigned this book for summer reading, though my opinion of it differs from those of the pervious reviewers. I thought The Once And Future King was an excellent book. Granted, it is not a quick or easy read for most people. It was not meant to be. However, anyone above age 12 with average intelligence should be able to understand this book, and, better yet, to get something enjoyable out of it. It just takes a little time and thought on the reader's part. The book deals with human issues that are surprisingly familiar to us, despite how long ago they are supposed to have happened. The characters are real people, with real thoughts and real emotions. These thoughts and emotions are conveyed beautifully, so that they become our own, and not those of the characters in a book. That is what makes this book so great. We aren't reading about something so much as we're seeing and feeling it happen to us. Some parts of the book dragged on a little too long, like the Quest for the Holy Grail, but other than that, there isn't much not to like. It's dissapointing that these parts don't live up to the rest of the book, but the good parts are SO good that they make up for it. I would reccomend The Once And Future King to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Pure Classic Review: This book is beautifly written which will capture the likes of young and old. The story is the best of it's kind. It goes indepth about all of the characters and makes it easy to understand. It deserves to be a classic.
Rating: Summary: Amazingly intelligent and intriguing Review: Like many other of the reviewers, i too was supposed to read this book for summer. I was not looking forward to it, since all my classmates had said it was boring, but i found it to be one of the greatest book i have ever read and it instantly become one of my all time favorites. If you are able to understand this book, since some of the other reviewers seemed not to, then you will surely enjoy this read with great pleasure. I highly reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: This is one of the most boring books I've ever read in my whole life. It was assigned as one of my summer reading books and this was the last one I had to read and I thought it would never end. It's too complicated and hard to understand. I don't recommend this book for anyone who's impatient and doens't have a lot of time free.
Rating: Summary: boring Review: I was given this book as a summer reading assignment. I FINALLY finished it today. The book is one of the worst I've ever read. It's depth is so far over my head that i'm not sure i understand it enough to answer my review questions for school. Sadly, the only part of the book that kept my attention was the Lancelot and Gwen affair. That is the only reason i give it 2 stars. I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone under 20, unless you are patient and have a bunch of time on your hands. It's just way too confusing and boring!
Rating: Summary: dont try to read it in one night. Review: I was supposed to read this book for summer reading. I put it off, which I shouldnt have until the ngiht before. I kind of like the story...or at least what I read....but it is SO freakin hard to understand. I just didnt get it. I wish they couldve been a tidge clearer with the whole story and it would have been great.
Rating: Summary: The best book ever written Review: This is by far the best book ever written. That is all I need to say about it. I don't need to defend it in any other way, because I'm sure everyone who has ever read it will agree with me, or at least everyone who read it better! This book is written without flaw, it has interesting characters, and deals with morals and humanity that we still haven't figured out. The main character is a sweet, honorable, noble, wonderful man who is the star of humanity. The person who thinks themself the best person in the world would look like the devil compared with Arthur. He loved Lancelot and Gwen even though they hurt him, he still loved Mordred when he led Arthur to his destruction. He was the best and noble person alive, if he really was. The world should be honored to think of him as a human, because he could almost certaintly be a god. I cannot stress enough the greastness of this book; it is wonderful. It was the first book I cried along with. The characters are likie real people, who hurt and decieve, and that is what happened. For the whole last book, The Candle in the Wind, I cried. It is so sad. Poor Arthur had great ideas for the world, to help people and use Might for Right. He wanted to help the world and the people he loved, but they ultimitly caused his destruction. Everyone in the world should take a lesson in humanily from Arthur. But Arthur wasn't the only great character, Gwen and Lancelot were also. Lancelot was insecure and scared. He was moral, and never killed anyone below him without cause and a very good reason. Gwen was good to both of them, even if it did cause problems. If you haven't read this book, read it now. If you are 12 or older, you need to read it. It is not a question of reading it, it is a must. This was the best book ever written.
Rating: Summary: An interesting book, worth taking a look at Review: I found this book a very interesting read, although it did take me quite a while to get through it, my attention remained. I found that I enjoyed the first part of the book the best, the story of Arthur's childhood told in a rather playful fashion. The rest of the book was someone politically, chivalry-oriented. I found interesting the way that the author inserted passages dealing with magic, and odd or interesting things simply as if they were everyday occurences. I found especially amusing the antics of some of the knights, even if they were not meant to be amusing. I was a bit dissapointed in the whole story of the Holy Grail, it was confusing, and difficult to keep track of each knight separately. The characters were quite interesting, but I found that Arthur lagged a bit after the first book. It was certainly not the best book I've read, but I would reccomend it if you're browsing through or have heard of it before.
Rating: Summary: The fantasy masterpiece by which all others are judged??? Review: It is very infrequent that I put down a book halfway through and never pick it up again, but this is one of those books. Not only is it one of the most annoyingly anacronistic historical/fantasy/whatever books I have ever read (e.g. There is no way that Arthur could have existed after the Norman invasion of England; the armour described was NOT worn in Celtic/Saxon England), but it is also one of the most boring books I can think of. For the first part, Arthur is transformed into various animals, but for no apparent purpose; the rest of the book is all dialogue and no action, and it is very very very very boring dialogue. Don't read this book kids.
