Rating: Summary: An Epic Children's Classic! Review: A friend of mine in Scotland got me hooked on these books and shipped them over to me two years back as a Christmas gift. Here is a story full of suspense and thrills so intense that I could not put down the book. You will meet brave Audrey and follow her on her journey to find her missing father against terrible odds and horrible evil. You will be reminded of the Redwall books, but at a more mature and intense level. At the time I read this I was amazed that it had not found its way to the United States yet and I am so glad someone finally threw it over the pond for the young adults here. This will definitely be a classic in children's fantasy and fiction!
Rating: Summary: The Dark Portal Minh's Review Review: I just don't like rats. They are vile and digusting creatures. I don't like planet Jupiter either. It is a dumb name.
Rating: Summary: Gripping Review: I read this book some years ago (the British edition) and I couldn't put it down. There is a great deal of suspense and it is truly imaginative, with some wonderfully painted scenes, and it is also very clearly told and thus accessible to children. Just you wait for the rest of the trilogy, the scope becomes truly staggering.
Rating: Summary: The Dark Portal Review: I thought it was a real good book because it had a lot of blood and gore, and a lot of rats died in it. It's a lovely, good child's book because you get a taste of what grown up stuff is like. Jupiter is evil to his civilization and population.
Rating: Summary: The Dark Portal. Review: In the time when the earth was green and blessed by the lord of the mice- the green mouse, a young mouse called audrey is shocked at the dissapearence of her father. On what supposed to be the most important day for a mouse, turned into a quest to find her father- and the truth. In her way stands the thing all mice fear most- the Grail and the lord of rats, a half god, half demon that is held within it. The Dark Portal is definitley a book I would reccomend all people to read. This book is not only superbly written, but it also has a great story line. This story portrays a mouse who shows true bravery, and burning desire for loved ones, in the face of uncertainty and danger lurking benind every corner. This story has adventure, fantasy and a lot of emotions in it, blending together to make a masterpiece and I think is destined to be a definite classic.
Rating: Summary: for all readers Review: it is the first book in the trilogy and is a great book. the end leaves you thinking that there isn't anymore, but just wait till you read the Crystal Prison. anyway, this is one of the best book having talking mice and other animals. way better than what i have read of the Red Wall series.

Rating: Summary: The Dark Portal Book Review Review: Jupiter's voice suddenly boomed in the confusion. 'Catch that mouse and bring him to me!' Cries and whoops came from the rats enjoying the chase. 'Now,' Jupiter commanded Morgan, 'deliver your spy-I shall peel him myself.' " Audrey Brown stars in The Dark Portal. Her father has died in the deep, dark sewers where the rats live. The almighty rat god, Jupiter, has killed him. Audrey goes down into the sewers to find him because she doesn't believe that her father is dead. This book is about mice - the good guys - and rat - the evil ones. Robin Jarvis has made the small world of mice into a new galaxy. This book was very exciting. I like books with a lot of violence, so this was a great book for me. This book was more adventurous than The Crystal Prison, the second book in the series. Robin Jarvis has made some of his characters speak in British-English. I didn't like the dull parts when the mice start talking a lot and get sadder every moment. I also didn't like the funny accents. The book has funny accents because Jarvis is from London. If you like violence, this is a great book for you. For example, "What a catch!" said Skinner. "Let's make a 'bloody bones' of them." If not, this book won't be that good for you. This book really showed me how animals see the world.
Rating: Summary: Magic in the Sewers Review: Normal, peace-loving mice and dreadful, war-bound, evil rats mix in this amazing book called The Dark Portal. This book is sad, exciting and scary all at the same time. This might sound like a crazy mixture, but in the mind of Robin Jarvis, this mixture would make a magical life-and-death story.
Rating: Summary: Just Like Redwall! (But Spookier!) Review: Obviously not as lengthy as Redwall at 240 pages but is just as good of a story! Unlike Redwall, the story takes place in a human world, and only three different creatures (mice, rats, and two bats are main characters). The rats living in the sewers under Jupiter, thier never-seen-before god, are described very .......well. The rats, always working in the mine, with, obviously, no place to clean any part of their body, stay stinky and smelly the whole story. The story is somewhat spooky because the plot keeps on practically forcing the mice to go back into the dark sewers over and over (including kid mice). Also, the evil powers of Jupiter far surpass the often violence found in Redwall. Lovers of David Clement-Davies, Brian Jacques, Avi, and J.K. Rowling, (or any other fantasy author) if you haven't discovered this series yet, you won't be dissappointed.
