Summary: Great fairy-tale fun for all ages (Even adults)!
Review: I've read "The Ordinary Princess" so many times I can't count the exact number of times! This story about a princess who was given the gift of "ordinariness" (by royal standards) is great fun for all ages, kids and adults alike.

What I like most about the story is the humor. Much of it is provided by the King who says certain phrases so many times it makes me laugh my head off! After the fairy godmother Crustacea gives Amethyst (or Amy) the gift of ordinariness, the King says "I told you it was rash!" for about seventeen times! And he says "Bless my soul" fifty-one times after Amy returns from Ambergeldar and 117 separate times after the eventual marriage that she makes!

Which brings me to Amy. I like her because she's courageous and intelligent -- and all the better for being different. She loves climbing trees and forests, and hates fancy clothes and princes with no sense of humor! And as for her future husband, Peregrine (he has seven other names worse than this one), he's perfect for Amy -- likes to have fun and would rather prefer a "kitchen maid" with a sense of humor to a dull princess! The best part about their love and eventual marriage is that they come to love each other for what's on the inside, something that's proved in a letter Peregrine writes to Amy. At the end of it, he says "Darling Amy, don't ever change!" I love that line, because it's what real love is supposed to be like.

In short, I truly love that story and would recommend it to anyone. And one final thing -- I can't help but think that maybe Crustacea made Amy ordinary because she knew about Peregrine and that he would like an "ordinary" young woman, not a beautiful princess.

Summary: This is a long review, but worth your time, I think.
Review: When my fiance and I went shopping for rings, I chose an amethyst stone because I had been thinking about a book I had read when I was younger, called "The Ordinary Princess" whose main character was named Amethyst. Her nickname was Amy so I felt a kinship with her since my name is also Amy and I was tomboyish, like she was, when I was growing up. After looking at rings, we had another errand to run - we had to order a book for my aunt. I didn't know what book we were ordering, it was my fiance's task. After he ducked in the book store to order the book and we were on our way to yet another errand, he asked why I had chosen amethyst for my engagement ring, and I told him about "The Ordinary Princess." He looked at me with disbelief and then confessed to me that "The Ordinary Princess" was the book he had just ordered for my Aunt. She was having him order it for us to read together because she had been reading it with her daughter and it reminded her of me and my fiance! I swear by everything that is good and holy this story is true. Neither of us had any knowledge about the other's association with the book until that moment. The book was out of print, as you all well know, so we never got it. I have now tried to order it here and I'm praying Amazon will come through for me. I love this book. I must own a copy!

Summary: a wonderful look at a fairy tale story
Review: I read this book when I was still in elementary school. It helped to change the way I viewed life and showed me that different wasn't always bad, in fact sometimes it was better. It's a great fairy tale about an ordinary princess and her struggles for happiness.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Unconventional characters build positive self-image
Review: This book is fantastic. I've read many of the world's most poular fairy tales, from H.C. Anderson to The Brothers Grimm. This is a fairy tale for the nineties; supporting the notion that one does not have to be beautiful and gifted to live happily ever after. This is a book that will become a favorite of children present and future, yet help them form realistic views about themselves and how they are seen by others. The Ordinary Princess is a first-class cure for the cult of the Barbie image.
