Rating: Summary: Destroyed the series before it, but still a good book! Review: In The Road Home, Ellen Emerson White brings closure to the story of war nurse Lt. Rebecca Phillips. Though the overall book is excellent, it is also rather dispointing (if you have read the Echo Company Series.) Though Rebecca is a complex and interesting character, the reader cares more about what happens to the other characters who returned to "the world" and who played a much more important role in the series such as Viper, Finnegan, Hanson and (especially) Snoopy. None of the readers wanted to see Hanson go blind, Michael lose a leg or Doc and Jankowski die but that is just a sad part of war. However, I personally would like to know what happened to Snoopy when he got home to Newark or what would have happened if Michael did not lose his leg. These curiosities (along with many others) are provoked while reading. This book was not only thought-provoking and well-written (with a slight overuse of the dash) but it was also interesting and a wonderful piece of literature. I recommend it to almost everyone (with the exception of young, teen-age boys who only want to read about guns and all the nasty things mortars can do.)
Rating: Summary: A book beyond words Review: Our class was assigned books to read for our Vietnam unit and I chose to read "The Road Home." At first I just thought that ok, I would pick a book and get it overwith. Yet after reading the first few pages of it I was immediately drawn in. In this book you always think that once things have become as rotten as they have, they immediately return for a happy ending. This book has taught me much more than I ever would have known about Vietnam and has portrayed a character with a life full of hardships, friendships and romance which keeps you pleading for more.
Rating: Summary: Great, entertaining, and supenseful! Review: The Road Home was a great book, it showed real character and the authors dedication and love towards writing. This book is one of the best I've ever read. The Road home is very suspensful and exicting. The Road HOme is also great for learning about the war I would reccomend this bookkto everyone!!!
Rating: Summary: An action-adventure with a spice of romance and war. Review: This book is perfect for those readers who love action-adventure but would like to learn more about the characters involved in it. A little spice of romance and some intrigueing dialog tell the story of nurse,Rebecca Phillips, working in war conditions. After the war ends she is faced with being separated from the general she becomes friends with and the soldier she fell in love with. In an attempt to regain her life, she leaves New England and ends up on her way to Colorado, where she finds her way to her soldier's home and heart.
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Book! Review: This book is well written and has an interesting viewpoint of the Vietnam War, from the point of a nurse who leaves home full of conflict and disappointment. She returns to find that her life only had become more difficult. This book is historically accurate because it tells how nurses live and come home the way they did. This book has some very descriptive parts in it that might not be good for younger readers. It also has a good amount of bad word choice that would also not be good for younger readers.
Rating: Summary: Definately Awesome! Review: This book was really great! I got it from the Peachtree City Library, and I plan on buying it sometime. So I can read it over & over again. =)
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!!!! Review: This book will touch your heart like no other book can. I suggest reading this book
Rating: Summary: This is probably one of the best young adult novels written. Review: This is one of the best young adult novels ever written, and I should know. For the last 7 years I have read many books geared for my age group (17 now) and rate this book above notable authors like Zindel, and on an equal level as Julian Thompson. This book is the story of Rebecca a brilliant nurse in Vietnam, who is in a deep depression that only gets worse as the people she love get hurt and/or leave Vietnam. Luckily, all ends up working for the best in the end. This book is flawless. Buy this book if it is the last thing you do
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: This is the second book of Ellen Emerson White's that I have read. I love this book. I read it over and over again and again. It gave me a better view on the war. Rebecca has a great personality that makes the war easier to read about. I heard about the Echo Company series, and I want to read them, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Since reading this book, I have read two other books by her, and I found them to be just as good as "The Road Home."
Rating: Summary: Good book on war, and romance Review: This was a great book, it was well written and describes war in Vietnam from a female nurse's point of view. I have read this book many times and I recommend others to do the same.
