Summary: a tough life in the fat lane
Review: I picked up this book from the library, seeking a book for a report on health and disorders. I read this book in one night, and cried through much of it. It is about a thin, georgeous, teenage girl Laura, who has everthing. She gets a disease which causes execessive weight gain, in a very short period of time. She takes us through the days of her life before, and after she got the disease. I was very touched by the story. It's hard being a teenage girl in the the world of magazines. They all show thin girls with "beautiful" bodies. But what is beauty? In this day, it is hard being a teenage girl in a world which display thin as beauty. I have always imagined that it must be tough to be obease, but never actually realized the torment and depression they must go through each and every day. I have always accepted all people, reguarding their size color, ect; but now after reading the book, I encourage others to do the same. While reading, you feel her pain, share her hurt, and realize what many people go through every day. I recommended this book to all my friends, and they are now more accepting. I encourage everyone to read this book, especially those people who think less of those with obesity. Read this book, and you will discover what it is like to live life in the fat lane.

Summary: Very realistic
Review: I thought that this book was realistic. The characters all seemed real. Lara and her friends represent the millions of teenage girls who care about image. Her brother, Scott, represents a lot of thirteen-year old boys who pretend that they dont have a care in the world, and all they like to do is ride on their skateboards. Her parents represent a lot of parents who have fights. This book was great! It seemed like a book from a girls highschool life. The teasing and name-calling (like Lard-..., for instance) was also realistic because many boys are jerks who tease people because of the way they look. The self-pitying is also realistic. Now I see overweight people differently, even though it wasn't Lara's fault she became overweight. It was in Lara's point of view. It took my 2 days to read this book- it was so good I couldn't put it down. I recommend it to anyone who wants to see what its like to be a sixteen year old girl living in the cruel, harsh reality that we call life.

Summary: Life in the Fat Lane- Adolecent Novel Review
Review: Life in the Fat Lane is 260 pages long, with 19 chapters and takes about 4 hours to read. The reading level is 5.2 and the interest level is for grades 9-12. I don't recommend this book for anyone who is below the 9th grade because of issues with body image, family relations and minor adult content. While this book's genre is coming of age, I would recommend it mostly for female readers. Life in the Fat Lane has a lot of dialog between characters and is extremely detailed. This novel could easily be made into a movie. The story is through the eyes of Lara Ardeche. The reader reads what she is cognitively thinking, what she says, and discovers all events as Lara encounters them. The overall theme for Life in the Fat Lane is that self acceptance is more important than if others accept you or do not accept you. I liked this book and enjoyed reading it.

Summary: Yo!
Review: While I thought this book was predictiable and had many unorigional ideas used in it (come on, we all knew she was going to gain weight, RIGHT?), it still is moving and interesting. I read this book twice in 5th grade so my opinions on it may be a little fuzzy. Moving on...this book is about a girl who mysteriously gains weight (because of a sickness...?) and is shunned my her former friends because of her unperfect physical appearance. She discovers a group of supportave people through her piano teacher. Sadly, the girl is EXTREMLY stuck-up towards them shen she first meets them and is still in denial about her social loss. Personally, the weirdos she hangs out with sound AWESOME, but that's beside the point. She finally learns to accept them and everyone lives happily every after. In conclusion, I reccomend this book but it is not my favorite. If you want to read more funnky fresh books, check out The Giver (best book EVER), Monologs for the 90s, Ghost Boy and What My Mother Doesn't Know. PEACE!

Summary: Great Book
Review: Although I am not sure whether Axell-Crowne Syndrome, a rare metabolic disorder, exists, this is a great view of a disease which causes young people to gain weight through diet, exercise, and all the right nutrition. This is a great controversial book to society. I think that all young people must read this book. I am even using this for an assigned book report in my freshman Language Arts class.

Summary: Unlikeable characters!
Review: This book fits all too well into a growing category of shallow, light books for teenage girls which have little to no literary value. I bought it because it looked interesting, but within the first few pages, I knew that I wouldn't like it. The main character was a spoiled brat, so I felt no sympathy for her when she began to gain weight. The book is poorly written. If you want to read something that will benefit you, this is NOT a good choice.

Summary: Wow, I love it!!
Review: Being a small-town girl, a little overweight, and not into books at all, I enjoy reading books that have the main character really fighting for what they believe in. I loved Life In The Fat Lane because I could relate to Lara. I fight with my dad all the time, but my parents' divorce was different than hers, my mom walked out on us, but I put that behind me, and the tables turned when my dad, decided that I didn't need counseling, or I didn't need my mom, he thought I was just fine the was I was, boy was he wrong!!!!! But no matter how much I need to be with my mom, he doesn't care about that, he thinks I'm fine where I am!! Well, I'm not, and Lara really fought with her dad about how he hurt teh family, and how that was going to change everything now. I HIGHLY reccomend this book to EVERYONE!!!!!
