Summary: Life In The Fat Lane
Review: I just finished reading Life In the Fat Lane and it really touched me. It took me less then a day to read it. Everything in the book is so true and is very easy to relate to. There are so many people who are mean to others because of their weight or even if they just look different. In this book you learn how hurtful it can be to someone that is made fun of and it also helps you find confidence within yourself to stand up for yourself and others. I really recommend this book to any girl, tall or short, overweight or average weight, it doesnt matter the book will still touch your heart in a wonderful way.

Summary: Shows the life of a tormented, yet typical teenager
Review: I just finished reading this novel, and it was excellent. Ms. Bennett shows good judgement of teenagers today and what is importent to them, us. Not just being thin is important, but good grades, good friends and a good home. She effects all of these concerned areas! It's a great book, and I recommend it to all!

Summary: A MUST READ EVEN IF YOU DO OR DON'T "live in the fat lane"
Review: This was an amazing, well-written, thought provoking book with such humorous anecdotes. Lara Ardeche epitomizes what many teenage girls wish they were: gorgeous, smart, nice, great boyfriend, and "perfect" parents. Everything seems good, until Lara's life isn't what it used to be. This book depicts both sides of teenage life, popularity and normalcy. Lara realizes that there is more to who you are despite your outside persona and so does the reader. I think that everyone should read it, girl, boy, teenaged or old. A must-read...

Summary: An awesome novel for young adults
Review: Lara Ardeche seemingly was seemingly perfect. It was like she had everything every teenage girl dreams of. That is, until she gains weight. I have recently read "Life in the Fat Lane", and I think it has made a lasting impression on my life. This book teaches that just because you are thin, doesn't mean you are perfect, despite how everything might seem. This is an excellant book.

Summary: A great book for girls fat and thin
Review: This is the most popular book at my school. I borrowed it from a friend who is kind of overweight. She told me that it made her feel fantastic about herself, and to see that you are not what you weigh. Me, I'm pretty normal in my weight, but never again will I judge a person to be good because she is thin or bad because she is fat. I hope that this is sometime made into a movie because it is a GREAT story. Everyone was judging Lara by how she looked, both when she was thin and pretty and when she was fat. This is the way it really it is in the world, even if it is totally stupid.

Summary: Stunning and frighteningly relatable.
Review: I am a typically self-conscious fifteen-year-old, and I was astonished at how attuned "Life in the Fat Lane" is to people my age and how well it shows BOTH sides of high-school life. I read the entire book in one night and I couldn't put it down. Definitely a must-read--and it should be mandatory for high-school girls.

Summary: Full of superficial characters, unrealistic and depressing
Review: I borrowed this book from the library expecting a book about being positive in a world where plus-size people are already ostracized. I could not believe how superficial the characters were...and after spending three consecutive hours reading the book, I only came to one conclusion: I had wasted my time. It's bad enough that most teenagers are insecure, but to write about a girl, who was supposedly perfect and making her gain weight to be imperfect and having everyone tease her is only damaging to a child. Perhaps I expected too much from this book...but with so many books out on the market, I was hoping against hope that this would not be your run-of-the-mill "The fat person is the loser, being thin is beautiful," story. Life isn't perfect, but to create a character who is assumed perfect because of body size is stupid. There are many kids out there who are easily influeneced by such literature, that something that many have been intended as helpful can actually be harmful. I gave this book one star, because despite the storyline, it was very well-written. I'm surprised that a book like this would be published in the 90's. With so many teens struggling with weight issues, the last thing that is needed is a book about a girl who thinks being fat means being a failure. Maybe this was not Bennet's intention, but believe me, I know many people who would interpret it this way. Maybe the sequel to this book will have her as a plus-size model in MODE or something. We can only hope, right?

Summary: When's the last time you read a book that's hard to put down
Review: As a media specialist, I read many books. This book I could not put down. It made me angry at first, then it started changing and I had to keep reading to find out what would happen next. The attitudes and stereotypes of heavy and thin teen girls have needed to be addressed for a long time and this book does an excellent job of it. My 12 year-old daughter didn't believe that it could be that good until she read it and couldn't put it down either. Many thanks to the author for a great story and dealing with a difficult topic.

Summary: this book was definatly one of the BEST!
Review: Life in the fat lane changed how i look at the world. What more can you say about a great BOOK!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: good read for adults as well as teens
Review: As a formerly fat adolescent, I could really relate to this book (notice how I am lapsing into the lingo of my youth!) As a middle-aged woman who has recently undergone chemotherapy with its resulting sudden menopause and intractable weight gain, I could relate even more! This is a wonderful read for anyone who has struggled with weight issues. The author manages to be youthful in her outlook without being condescending to her readers--a rare combination!
