Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Games we do not want to play Review: This is quite a good yarn. It is amazing how a summer vacation can get really exciting.
Barney, the hero, is a sixteen year old with his mom and dad at a summer beach house for a couple of weeks and he is bored, bored, bored. Then the neighbors appear. They are wonderful, good looking, good natured and friendly. Barney's vacation is not so boring anymore.
These people, three of them: two guys and a girl, are interested in the house that Barney's folks rented. The hijinks begin: Barney learns a new game, one that is not on the market yet; Barney goes windsurfing, sort of, with them, and everything starts to get really exciting.
Barney is growing up, though this book does not show so much of the normal growth and development that children go through to become adults, it is still a juvenile story. But it is really a well told story, with a lot of interesting characters and ideas.
This is one of the better juvenile stories I have read.

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Neighbors, and gamers, and piggy, oh my! Review: Barney is a young teen. He and his family are vacationing in a cottage for the summer. But there are two strange things about the house. First, it is supposed to be haunted by the son of a previous owner. A son who was insane and locked up for twenty years. In Barney's room, no less. The other is that the neighbors in the cottage next door seem inordinately interested in it.Although the neighbors seem to be young and very successful, they seem to take a shine to the young Barney. They are also obsessed with playing a science fiction game called Interstellar Pig. They get Barney involved in the game as well. The game set is very sophisticated. The play is simple as the players try to find an object, the Piggy, and be the one holding it when the game's timer runs out. At that point the characters not holding the Piggy, and their home planets, are wiped out. But Barney notices the neighbors strange behavior. Evasive answers and strange speech patterns drive Barney's curiosity. What is it about the game and the neighbors? Who are they really? Why are they so interested in the ghost story? Finding the answers will make this Barney's most interesting summer. I might have given the book four stars, but there were some serious flaws in some of the scenes and information in the book. For that reason I only gave it three stars. Most readers are not as particular to these types of flaws and will not be bothered by them. Otherwise, this is a very fun book. Look for the sequel; PARASITE PIG.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An interesting approach to many of man's ills Review: Given that this book is not a huge take-off on society's ill's, it does demonstrate the silly ways that man can act over the stupidest little things, sugar-coating it in the brilliant disguise of a board game played by all the creatures of the universe.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I can't even tell you how great this book is. Review: I first read this book in 7th grade, and it has stuck with me all of these years. (I am now 23). This is a great sci-fi book with such detail and a carefully woven plot. It grabs you, and hold you even past the last page. If you find it, and I have had a HARD time finding it, grab it and never let go!!!
