Summary: THOUGH ELENA ANNOYS AT FIRST, A WONDERFUL BOOK
Review: This is a BEAUTIFUL series.... At first, the female leadcharacter,Elena, seriously annoyed me--she was the typical, self-centered prom-queen high school brat. I was hoping she'd get killed. But then, the author shows another side of Elena--a side which is caring and strong, reminding you that people aren't one-dimensional. The characters also grow up throughout the course of the story, which is always the mark of a good novel. And, of course.... romantic, beautifully gothic, heart-ripping.... a great book.

Summary: Wonderful, Thrilling, and Exciting
Review: The Awakening is a fabulous book if you are into vampires. L.J. Smith captures your attention on the first page. She is a wonderful writer and I hope you enjoy the book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must read for any vampire lover!!!!!!
Review: This book is excellent for anyone who loves vampires. L.J. Smith creates a powerfully seductive world centering around the sometimes self-absorbed Elena Gilbert and her friends, and enemies, at Robert E. Lee high. She spins a tale of love and hate, good versus evil, with her tale of the two vampire brothers that love Elena. This book keeps the reader glued to it's pages, wanting to know more about this love triangle. Can Elena resist the temptation of evil and learn to love and accept Stefan for what he is, or will she be lost to him forever?

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not L. J.'s best
Review: I would have liked this book a lot better if the main character was a more interestingperson than Elena, who seems to be the personification of the stereotypical boy-crazy mallrat teenagegirl. I LOVE vampires, but this is ridiculous. Like when Stefan starts going to high school - oh please. He's hundreds of years old; as if he needs to learn about algebra. School is bad enough when you HAVE to go. Books like this are why I prefer Anne Rice and Poppy Z. Brite, even if Anne *is* getting too religious, and Poppy too violent - at least they don't show the entire world from a teenage perspective.

Summary: All I can say is, WONDERFUL! Great writing, also!
Review: Elena, our main character, is entranced by Stefan Salvatore, a exchange student from Italy who just recently came to school. What Elena doesn't know, is that her love is a vampire. Tormented with memories of his dear Katherine(who does look like Elena)he tries to stay away from her and Caroline takes advantage. There has been recent murders about the city and people are scared. That's all I'm going to say or else I'm going to ruin the book. A must-have in your book collection

Summary: A MUST READ for THRILLER or VAMPIRE lovers!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A MUST READ if your interested in Vampires and Thrillers!!!
Review: This book was absolutly one of the best. You never knew what was going to happen next. Questions are made and answered. Is she going to be able to win his heart, or will his painful memory keep him away? Defenitly one of L.J. Smith's best work

Summary: A Timeless Book
Review: Before Buffy and Angel lite up the tv screens spinning off book series there was L.J. Smith's series 'Vampire Diaries". This was one of the first vampire books I ever read back when I was about 12. Ten years later, and heavy dog eared copy of "The Awakening" volumn #1 of the "Vampire Diaries" the story and plot is still fresh as ever, keeping me coming back again and again. If you love the paranormal, a bit of romance, adventure, two good looking vampires, and of course the age old struggle of school politics then you'll love this book. Stefan, the sweet vampire, with his brother Damon, the 'bad boy' vampire, keep the thrills coming as Elena works through the story finding unknown twists and turns.

Summary: Teen Mom loves this Series!
Review: Good -vs- Evil, but the line is blurred... It always keeps you guessing!
True teen horror/romance.
From what I understand, she ended this series only to write one more book later on -- some say they are upset by the ending -- but I love a story that ends on a good note!

Summary: I loved this series!
Review: I read this series when I was 12. And I loved it! I loved the characters, I loved the story, I loved the romance.

I read it over and over as a teenager and even picked it up again recently. I start to see the flaws in the storyline, now that I'm older but I quickly push those thoughts to the back of my mind. I don't want to see them. It's a favorite book (and series) from my childhood. I don't want to see this book as anything but perfect.

This story instroduced me to the world of science fiction and fantasy and a slew of other types of books that are still with me and I continue to read.

The best thing about this book is that the female lead is brave, bold, knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. So few books (even now, over 10 years later) don't have many strong women who can take care of themselves. Elena doesn't just swoon and wait for a man to take care of her. She takes care of them (okay, so sometimes she needs help too) but she is a lot more real than some characters. Mainly because she isn't always the "nicest".
